ECW on Sci-Fi Results: 10/02/07 Nutter Center: Dayton Ohio
    Tuesdays 10/9 CT

Tonight’s ECW doesn’t start with the original “Don't Question My Heart” video that we see on a weekly basis. Instead, Vince McMahon is shown walking down the ramp with a serious look on his face. Vince enters the ring and grabs a microphone. He begins the segment by showing a replay of certain clips from last nights Raw’s main event when Cena suffered his pectorial muscle tear. To much of the audiences dislike, Vince announces that as of this moment, Cena is no longer the WWE Champion due to the severity of this injury. He further states that Cena will be sidelined anytime between 6 months to a year. However, the vacated championship will still be up for grabs at No Mercy. Vince claims that at the PPV, history will be made as a new champion will be crowned! (What a bummer. Cena has been the longest reigning champion in the last 19 years and for this to suddenly happen is truly heartbreaking. Whether you like him or you hate him, you must applaud this man for showing his dedication towards this business. As far as this segment goes, I thought it was well done.. It was short and the main points were introduced fairly. You can tell that Vince is in a world of trouble with all of his superstars injuries).

Back from break, C.M. Punk is heading to the ring. He has a microphone on hand and shows everyone the footage of last week’s ECW when Big Daddy V decimated the champion. Punk says that he respects Big V’s attitude towards making a name for himself, but now he has gone too far to the point where he has the champions attention. At this point, Matt Striker and Big V intervene the segment via the titantron. Striker tells Punk that Big V demands a title shot and he will continue his path of destruction until given the oppurtunity. Without giving Punk the chance to answer, Striker introduces Punk to his opponent, Mike Knox (I guess this is a sanctioned match. Who gave Striker the right to make matches?)

    Match 1: Mike Knox v. C.M. Punk
The match begins with a lock up between the two superstars. Punk then goes on the offensive as he applies a hammerlock for quite some time. Knox counters the manouver with armbar holds of his own. After series of counters, Punk nails Knox with multiple side kicks and sends him out of the ring. Punk leaps over the ropes with cross body as we go to a commercial break. We return back to action and see Punk locked in a sleeper hold. After several minutes of mat wrestling, Punk begins to shift the momentum as he sends Knox crashing into the turnbuckle. Punk nails Knox with his signature knee to the face however Knox pushes off Punk when Punk tried to apply his bulldog. Knox attempts his bicycle kick however Punk dodges it and hits the GTS for the win! (Rating: 2.5. This match was fairly well and was capable of reaching a rating of 3. However due to all the armbar and headlock mat holds, it can be seen that the match was a bit dragged. The GTS was a little mis-calculated which really took away from the finishing and the crowd wasn’t into the match. Knox can wrestle, but maybe he should take on other superstars before he takes on the likes of Punk and other top named stars on this show just to show off his abilities in the ring.)

    Post Match:
-Punk celebrates his victory as we go backstage and see Mahoney heading down towards the ring.
-A video of Tommy Dreamer is played highlighting his ECW career.

Mahoney makes his way to the ring and wants to know just whether or not Kelly would go out with him. Out comes Kelly and she gladly accepts. The Miz with E.E is shocked in Kelly’s decision and tells her to leave Mahoney. Miz gets in the ring only to find himself jabbed in the face with a right hand from Mahoney. Miz then alerts everyone that he owns contracts to all members of E.E including Kelly. He threatens her by saying that if she doesn’t walk away from Mahoney, then she will be kicked out of E.E, but more importantly, ECW. Kelly cries and leaves Mahoney alone in the ring.

-A video of Elijah Burke is played.

    -Commercial Break-

-Quick run through the No Mercy PPV card.

Match 2: Elijah Burke v. Tommy Dreamer
The bout starts off with Burke offering a handshake, but Dreamer cleverly declines and takes down Burke. Dreamer then goes on to dominante Burke as he applies his signature dropkick with Burke tied up in the Tree of Woe position. Dreamer closthelines Burke over the top rope as we go to a commercial break.
Burke is shown in control of the match up as we return from break. Dreamer is hurt after being hurled into the steel steps. Dreamer then begs Burke for some more pain. Burke retaliates with a 4up. Moments later, Dreamer nails Burke with a hard clothesline leaving Burke grasping for air. At this point, the crowds begins to really get behind Dreamer as he and Burke are on the top rope. After knocking Dreamer down, Burke jumps off the top rope, but only to find himself countered into a near pinfall. Dreamer recieves a running STO from Burke and goes on to hit the outer limits elbow drop. When Burke goes for a clothesline, Dreamer moves out of the way and Burke crashes into the turnbuckle. Burke turns around and is nailed by Dreamers spike DDT for the victory. (Rating: 3. Wow this match went way better than I thought it would. If given the time, Burke and Dreamer can indeed put on a great match. The crowd, who seemed quiet all night, was finally making some noise as they cheered for Dreamer. I would not mind to see these two go at it again.)

    Post Match:
-GM Estrada comes out to congratulate Dreamer on his hard fought victory. He then tells Dreamer to get ready, because there is still one more person left in the Elimanation Chase…Big Daddy V.

Match 3: Final Round of the Elimanation Chase – Big Daddy V v. Tommy Dreamer
Big V makes quick work of Dreamer as he is dismantaled. Dreamer tries to fight back, but fatigue has set in. Big V takes advantage of the situation and smashes into him at the turnbuckle followed by a samoan drop. He then nails his signature elbow drop that is reminissance of the legendary Andre the Giant for the victory. (Rating: 1.5. This match took was very lacking in a sense of wrestling.. Dreamer vs. Punk would have been nice to see at No Mercy, but I guess the WWE feels that Dreamer’s not ready yet for a title push just yet.Besides, this match up was designed to tell a story regarding Big Daddy V’s dominance leading into a PPV. Big V taking on Punk should l be an interesting match to see at the PPV).

    Quick Match Results:
    -C.M Punk defeated Mike Knox
    -Tommy Dreamer defeated Elijah Burke
-Big Daddy V defeated Tommy Dreamer

Highlight of the Night: Dreamer v. Burke

Overall tonights ECW wasn’t much of a strong show, but was good enough to hold on its own tonight. The crowd didn’t seem too interested until Dreamer defeated Burke. Where was Richards, Thorn and Morrison? Maybe bring over some more talent? The Vince McMahon segment was acceptable as it was kept short and to the point without the typical drama from Vince. 5/10.

    No Mercy Aftermath!
Be sure to check back here next week to see who walked out of No Mercy as the ECW Champion!
