WWE Smackdown Results 9-21-07

    SmackDown Report – 9/21/2007

    A video package starts the show off hyping up the wedding between Teddy Long and Kristal Marshall. We then go to Maria who is interviewing the Ying Tang Twins outside the arena. Mr Mcmahon and the Coach greet them and Mr Mcmahon says that Hornswoggle is not here tonight.

    SmackDown Opening video starts and pyro goes off in the arena as Michael Cole and JBL welcome us to another edition of Friday Night SmackDown Batista makes his way to the ring and talks about his win at Unforgiven. He then announces that he will face The Great Khali at No Mercy in a Punjabi Prison Match. Mark Henry interrupts him and says he will face the Undertaker next week on SmackDown And Batista challenges Mark Henry to a match tonight. We are then told that Rey Mysterio will be interviewed later tonight.

    Backstage skit between Jeff Hardy and the Ying Yang Twins is going on as we return from commercials.

    MATCH 1 – Jimmy Wang Yang Vs Jaime Noble
    Winner: Jimmy Wang Yang via pin fall at 5 minutes
    This was a good match, Jaime Noble dominated Wang Yang’s arm for most of it before Shannon Moore distracted Noble and Wang Yang was able to win the match. I’d really like to see some more matches between these two, although with more time given.
    Rating - 6/10

    Backstage Matt Hardy and MVP are having another competition. This time throwing a ball through a tire and MVP tells Hardy they have a match coming up next.

    MATCH 2 – MVP and Matt Hardy Vs Deuce and Domino (non-title match)
    Winners: Deuce and Domino at 7 minutes of television time
    Good back and forth match here which was slightly better than there Unforgiven match. The MVP/Hardy feud is easily the best thing going on in the WWE right now and I would love to see these 2 fight for the United States title at No Mercy.
    Rating - 7/10

    Backstage, there is yet another wedding segment going on, this time involving Teddy Long. Back at ringside Michael Cole introduces Rey Mysterio. Cole interviews Mysterio before JBL interrupts calling Mysterio a disgrace. Mysterio challenges JBL to a fight but JBL says he can’t due to his announcing contract but introduces Finlay instead. Finlay hits Mysterio in the head with a microphone and Mysterio is left lying in the ring as we go to a commercial break.

    When we come back from commercial the RAW rebound is shown.

    Backstage, there is a segment with the Ying Yang twins, Jimmy Wang Yang, Carlito and Chuck Palumbo.

    We are then shown a video of the Search volleyball competition (I’m tired of the Diva Search already). Naomi was eliminated – who really cares?

    MATCH 3 – Mark Henry Vs Batista
    Match went to a no-contest at 3 minutes
    This was getting to be a half decent match before Khali interfered. Khali dominates Batista and leaves him lying in the middle of the ring. Match was far too short to be anything decent (match was just under 3 minutes) but tried hard for the short time they had.
    Rating – 2/10

    The wedding segment is up next and superstars from RAW, SmackDown and ECW are taking there seats in the aisle way. This was a very long segment and unless this is a big storyline I think its length was a bit unnecessary. Lots of interruptions from the likes of Jillian, the Godfather, Hornswoggle and the Coach. When it comes to the vows Teddy Long collapses. Medics are attending to Teddy Long as Smackdown goes off air.

    Overall, tonight’s SmackDown was a tough episode to rate, the little amount of wrestling there was was fairly good and the wedding segment was entertaining and well done, if a little too long. It didn’t really feel like a SmackDown episode as SmackDown normally has a lot of wrestling while RAW focuses on the entertainment side of thing. Hopefully SmackDown will be back to normal next week.

    Overall rating – 5/10
