Raw Report 8/13/2007
After Summerslam, everything changes, as the Summer is over, and we head towards Unforgiven. What will happen? Will Triple H reclaim his glory? Will Mr. McMahon find his son? Will Cena still be the Champ at the end of the night? We'll find out as the WWE presents RAW Live! only on the USA Network, originating from Boston, Massachusetts!
We begin with a review of last night's stunning win by John Cena over Randy Orton, with Cena retaining the coveted WWE Championship. After the recap, Orton's music hits, and the 3rd generation superstar is on his way down to the ring with quite a sour look on his face. Orton walks into the ring and grabs the mic. Orton says he spent the whole day in church, because he witnessed a miracle last night when Cena walked out the Champ again. He says he had an epiphany... he had the match won, he should be champ, but the guy who needs to be praying isn't RKO, but John Cena... John Cena should thank God for what happened last night. John Cena should thank God that his career isn't over, because next time, he won't be so lucky. Orton demands a rematch. The crowd is split on cheers and boos here. Orton calls out Cena to either accept his challenge, or... Cena's music hits before Randy tells us what Cena's other option was. The Champ is here! Cena makes his way down to the ring, hugging his father at ringside. Cena holds up the belt, and it's mostly cheers, with some audible boos. Cena makes fun of Orton for asking for a rematch. He says "rematch, or what? You gonna stay out and whine all night?" Cena says Orton couldn't get the job done last night. With all the talk of killing legends and being a 3rd generation superstar, at Summerslam, with everything on the line, and everything in his favor, Randy Orton still failed to get the job done. Cena said no hard feelings, because Randy has made a statement the past few weeks. Cena has a statement of his own: "The Champ is Here!" Cena says Orton knows better than this; Orton lost, so other people move up. One man made his return last night, and that man might deserve a title shot first. He then gets a pop from the crowd for shouting out for the Boston crowd, saying tonight, the WWE Title is on the line: John Cena vs. TRIPLE H! This is what the people want. William Regal's music hits, and he says that Cena will not be facing Triple H tonight. Orton won't be facing Cena either. Although Cena isn't facing Triple H or Cena tonight, but another man of majestic stature: King Booker! Booker's music hits, and the King and Queen of Raw enter. Cena looks frustrated. Orton goes for the RKO on a distracted Cena, but Cena moves out of the way and Orton falls out of the ring. Cena smiles as King Booker leaves, and Orton fumes on his way up the ring, embarassed and angry.
Mr. Kennedy's music hits, and here comes the gunner from Green Bay. Kennedy grabs the mic, misses it, and finally grabs it, saying he meant to do it. He does his "Misssssster Kennnnedy... Kennedy." And holy crap, Jeff Hardy's music hits! JEFF HARDY IS BACK ON RAW! Jeff comes down to a massive pop, sporting shorter hair but otherwise looking in great shape.
Mr. Kennedy v. Jeff Hardy
The two competitors square off with a tie-up. Hardy gets in a headlock, but Kennedy battles him to the corner, and they are seperated by the ref. The square off again with a tie-up, and once again Kennedy puts Hardy in the corner. A cheapshot by both men, and Jeff slaps Kennedy so hard he falls and crawls do the other corner. Back to his feet, Kennedy approaches Hardy and delivers punches and kicks to Hardy's face and midsection. The crowd is behind Hardy like crazy. Hardy puts Kennedy down with an aerial takedown. Another tie-up, and Kennedy knees Hardy, putting him down, into the turnbuckle, and then kicking Hardy several times. Hardy starts scrapping back, throwing closed fists and kicks, putting Kennedy into the ground of the corner. Kennedy gets back up, charges Hardy, but Hardy moves and Kennedy flies over the top rope and lands standing on the apron. Hardy dropkicks Kennedy in the shins sending Kennedy to the outside. Jeff then hits a baseball slide, and as soon as Kennedy gained his bearings on the outside, Jeff lands a plancha over the ropes onto Kennedy on the outside.
We're back with Kennedy in control with Hardy in a leg-vice. Hardy elbows his way out of it, but Kennedy throws Hardy into the ringpost. Kennedy hops outside, and torques Hardy's body around the ringpost. Kennedy gets back in and stomps a mudhole into a Hardy. Kennedy with a 2 count, and continues to work on Jeff. Hardy fires back, but catches a knee from Kennedy, and another near-fall by Kennedy. An abdominal stretch by Kennedy has Hardy screaming in pain, as Kennedy grabs the ropes for leverage. The ref catches it, but Kennedy takes his hand away. Hardy twists out of it, but catches a slam into the top turnbuckle, and is now in the tree of woe. Kennedy lifts Hardy up to the ropes, and gets behind him. Hardy elbows Kennedy off the top rope, and then catches MASSIVE air on a whisper in the wind. Hardy with a russian leg sweep, then gets a pin combination for a 2 count. Hardy now in control, clotheslining Kennedy and slamming his head into the turnbuckle. Hardy with a double stomp on Kennedy, and he calls for the Swanton. Kennedy counters the Swanton by putting his knees up. That looked sick. As soon as Kennedy covers Hardy, Umaga's music hits! Kennedy gets out of the ring, looking at Umaga. Umaga lifts up Jeff Hardy and then stares off at Kennedy. Umaga then hits Hardy with a superkick to the face, and begins assaulting Jeff Hardy. Buttsmash and Samoan Spike on Hardy. Kennedy leaves in disbelief as Umaga goes nuts in the ring over a knocked out Hardy.
Your Winner: No Contest
Match Rating: A- (What an unexpected treat! Jeff Hardy's unannounced return to Raw is a welcomed event by most, as his in-ring ability is unmatched. He and Kennedy really put on a great match here. The ending was a bit of a letdown, but it definitely reinforced the fact that Umaga is still a heel, regardless of his hatred for Kennedy and Carlito. A great match that was almost Pay-Per-View quality. This will be hard to top, as some of the spots in this match looked absolutely vicious.)
Vince McMahon and Coach are walking in the back, as VKM says he's got an announcement for Carlito's upcoming Cabana. Kennedy walks by and wishes Vince a Happy Belated Birthday. Vince asks Kennedy if he knows that his middle name is Kennedy. Kennedy says "Yes," and walks away. Vince says that Kennedy sure has an interesting walk, as he himself struts towards the ring.
Carlito's music hits, and Carlito comes out, ready for the Cabana.
Carlito says this is the coolest Cabana in history, and announces the Chairman, Mr. McMahon. "No Chance" hits and out comes Vinnie-Mac. VKM grabs the mic and says it's a pleasure to be on the Cabana. Carlito tells Vince "Happy belated Birthday." Vince says he turned 50 last week, and he's still growing - even his grapefruits. Vince says he realized that he doesn't need to be embarassed about his son, because he's Vince McMahon. He cannot be intimidated. Vince says he's going to sue the woman who is claiming this paternity suit if she doesn't turn over the name in 2 weeks. He will not be intimidated by her, or anyone else in the arena tonight. Suddenly, TRIPLE H'S MUSIC HITS! THE GAME IS BACK ON RAW!
Triple H makes his way to the ring amidst the loudest pop of the night. Vince tells the crowd to shut up, asking HHH what he's doing out there. Triple H asks him why he's giving him such a bad reaction. HHH says Vince has alot to worry about. Turning 75, worrying about crapping his pants, and this bastard son of his. HHH says on his time off, he searched the globe and found four women, who he has brought here tonight. HHH says Vince won't remember them very well, because it has been so long. The first is the woman that Vince had at Wrestlemania 3, thinking that she was Aretha Franklin. A giant black woman walks out. The next is the woman that Vince was with for many years, but hasn't seen her since he missed the target years ago. A lady with an eye-patch, One-Eyed Wendy walks out. HHH says Vince hit a hole in one. Vince says it was an accident that he poked her in the eye. The next woman is Carlito's sister. A lady walks out looking alot like Carlito, holding an apple. Carlito looks angry, and starts yelling in Spanish. Vince apologizes to Carlito, that Carlito was only 4 years old. HHH asks what gives, because Carlito's sister doesn't spit. The final woman comes out, HHH welcomes out "Francis," who everyone else knows as "Frank." A transvestite walks out. HHH tells Vince not to look so upset. HHH asks them to raise their hands if they have had intimate relations with VKM. All four raise hands. HHH asks them to raise their hands if they have a child by VKM. One-Eye and Carlito's sister raise their hands. HHH says "now raise your hands if you have a penis," and the "Francis/Frank" raises his/her hand. VKM kicks all the women out. HHH says Vince is being mean, and that he should be worrying about his new problems. Vince asks "what new problems?" HHH says its all over the media. Vince is running an illegal rooster fighting ring. HHH says Vince hates animals, and that PETA is outside, waiting for him. A hilarious exchange happens quickly, with HHH naming animals that Vince hates, with Vince saying that he loves them. HHH finally names "cocks," to which Vince responds that he loves cocks. Vince realizes what he said, looks at HHH, says he hates him, and wishes he never came back. Vince leaves looking worried. Carlito pulls HHH around and says that he needs to respect the boss, or he'll put him on the shelf for another 8 months. HHH says he knows Carlito is upset, but he's a tough guy. He can spit apples and ...suck grapefruits. Carlito chews an apple up and spits it in HHH's face. Triple H wipes it away, smiles, and knocks Carlito down with a single blow to the head. Carlito is put into the ropes, and a HHH hits a spinebuster. Crotch-chop, Pedigree, and Carlito is down and out. Triple H sits on the beach chair, sips a coconut drink, and then gets back up to take in the cheers as the crowd cheers loudly.
World's Greatest Tag Team and Daivari v. Cody Rhodes, London, and Kendrick
Shelton is sporting blonde hair now. Yes, you read that right. London starts off against Daivari. Daivari in control with a bodyslam, but London recovers and takes in Kendrick. Double-team armdrag by London and Kendrick. Kendrick knocked down by an elbow to the sternum by Daivari, who tags in Haas. Haas with a huge belly to belly suplex on Kendrick. Kendrick gets his foot on the rope during a pin attempt, so Haas tags in Shelton. Shelton with a two count, and tags in Daivari. Daivari works on Kendrick, but misses an atomic drop when Kendrick flips over and dives to tag in Cody. Cody takes control, and hits a massive powerslam. A pin cover for 2 brings all teams in the ring. London and Kendrick throw Shelton and Haas over the top rope to the outside, and then do a double crossbody over the ropes, taking out WGTT. Daivari tries to put Cody into the corner, but Cody hits a back elbow, staggering Daivari. Cody gets to the top rope and hits a big cross-body for the win!
Your Winners: Cody Rhodes, London, and Kendrick
Match Rating: B (Way too short, but I really enjoyed it while it lasted. Daivari is helping Cody out greatly, and Kendrick/Haas had great chemistry together. That belly to belly suplex by Haas was incredible, as was the timing of London and Kendrick on their double team moves. This deserved more time, so it falls to a B, but regardless, it was a very good match.)
We come back and Daivari is still in the ring, yelling something in Arabic. Cryme Tyme's music hits. JTG pumps up the crowd with some "Yo's" and asks Daivari what he's saying. Shad says "Nobody understands that Derka Derka, but they understand making that money, money." They grab Daivari's headpiece, and ask who wants to buy Daivari's "Derka Derka." They said they would sell it for five dollars, and a lucky fan gets a ring worn headpiece for a great price. Cade and Murdoch's music hits, and they come down ready to fight. Cade takes off his cowboy hat and throws it to the outside. JTG grabs it, puts it on, and Cryme Tyme takes off running through the crowd. Once they get into the crowd, Shad says normally they would sell it, but tonight, they give it away for free. Shad tosses the hat into the crowd and the "Money, Money" chant hits as Cade and Murdoch look very, very angry in the ring.
Vince is in the back, and Coach says HHH needs to be punished. Orton storms in and demands a rematch with John Cena. Vince says that Orton has great talent, but he doesn't deserve another title shot until he shows him he deserves it. Until then, Orton gets no title shot. Orton stares at Vince for a few seconds, and leaves, slamming his door on the way out.
Maria is standing in the back, getting ready for a fight against Beth Phoenix, next!
Maria v. Beth Phoenix
Before the match even officially starts, Beth Phoenix blindsides Maria. Beth goes on the attack, destorying Maria with various high impact moves. The referee is frantically trying to stop Beth, who demands that the ref back off. Finally, Beth lifts Maria for a hanging fisherman suplex. Finally, Phoenix heeds the referee's words and backs away, leaving Maria beaten in the ring. The ref tends to the fallen Maria as Beth backs up the ramp with an evil grin on her face.
Your Winner: No Contest
Match Rating: I have no idea how to rate this, since the match never officially started. Regardless, this segment did a good job of building Beth Phoenix. She comes off looking very strong.
Todd Grisham welcomes Candace Michelle in the back. Todd asks Candace how she stacks up against Beth's amazing strength. Candace says she's not intimidated by this challenge. A voice off-screen says "Challenge? Challenge?" Snitsky then walks up and says it's a challenge to know when to stop causing pain, because pain is his pleasure. uhh... okay...
Vince is on a couch in his dressing room with Coach, saying that the woman will probably be here next week. Regal comes in distressed, saying that something has happened. Regal says he cannot say in front of Coach. Vince says "Just tell me." Regal says next week his whole family is coming to see him, and they're bringing their attorneys. Regal and Vince look at Coach, and he looks down, disappointed.
King Booker v. John Cena
We come back after the break to the entrance of King Booker. Cena then comes out to a massive ovation, he's definitely the hometown hero tonight. They lock up, with Cena putting Booker in a corner. Booker gets out of it by delivering knees to John Cena. Booker misses a kick, and Cena takes advantage, putting Booker into the turnbuckle, and following it up by a bulldog. Cena whips Booker into the ropes, goes for a back body drop, but Booker catches it and kicks Cena. Booker in control now, but Cena catches an attempted back body drop and kicks Booker... same thing that just happened, with the roles reversed. Cena then hits a fisherman suplex and gets a 2 count. Booker T gets back up and hits a hard right hand on John Cena, knocking him down with one single punch. Cena staggers and gets back up, hits Booker, and, after sending Booker into the ropes, hits a drop toe-hold into the STFU. Booker crawls over to the ropes, and after Cena breaks the hold, Booker gets out of the ring to recuperate.
We come back to Booker dominating Cena. Back kick by Booker, and Cena is down. Booker gets a two-count, and picks Cena up. Cena battles back, but misses a clothesline, crashing into the turnbuckle. Booker hits a heel-kick, and gets another two-count. Booker then puts an armlock on a kneeling Cena. Cena begins powering out as the crowd gets louder and louder. Booker cheapshots Cena and then starts hitting Cena again with big blows to the skull. Booker goes for a clothesline but gets hit with a spinebuster by Cena. Both men to their feet, and throws Booker into the corner, only to get caught by a big boot from Booker. Cena is thrown to the apron by Booker, gets pulled back inside, and then is hit with a sidewalk slam by Booker. Another armlock by Booker, wearing the Champ down. Cena once again powers out, picking up Booker for an FU. Booker kicks out of it, and hits another back kick, putting Cena down. Booker gets a 2.9 count, as Cena barely kicks out. Booker sets up Cena for the scissor kick, but misses. Cena lines up and clotheslines Booker. Cena puts Booker in the Corner, and Orton comes out. Booker and Orton start crushing Cena. Scissor kick on Cena by Booker, who gets up and turns Cena's motionless body over to Orton. Booker leaves, and Orton starts stalking Cena. Orton stands back, getting ready for the kick to the head. Orton stops midway through, stares at Cena, jumps out of the ring, and pulls out John Cena's father. Orton hits a knockout kick to Cena's father and exits up the ramp. EMT's and Cena attend to Mr. Cena as Raw goes off the air...
Your Winner: John Cena by DQ
Match Rating: B+ (That was a great follow-up to Cena's match last night. Booker rebounded well from his squash at the hands of HHH, and he instantly has credibility again. Orton's interference was expected, but kudos to Cena's father for allowing himself to be brought into the storyline. It's a good twist, and will give this feud some legs to carry it for awhile.
Final Grade: A-
Wow, only one clean victory tonight, and only 3.5 matches. This Raw was all about the segments, and I thought they were pulled off quite well. Triple H was in rare form, and his interactions with Carlito were priceless. The wrestling that was shown was top-notch tonight by all competitors. Match of the Night definitely goes to Kennedy and Hardy, as that was one of the better Raw matches in a long time. The Snitsky appearance was sort of mindless - very reminiscent of the old ECW promo's when the WWE first brought it back. The Raw after a big Pay-Per-View is always a tough thing to pull off, but the WWE did well tonight. Focusing on the storylines, setting up the future, and staying with the continuity. Next week we get more McMahon drama, so that will probably cause Raw to sink a little bit. McMahon is great, but too much McMahon is like too many pancakes... which is a Mitch Hedberg reference (google or wikipedia for the exact quote). I was very satisfied, as the 2 hours went by quickly tonight. A good follow-up to a pretty good PPV.
