Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Columnists, marks, smarks, new guys, veterans, and Mods Welcome to the Twentieth edition of the Friday Night Write. I am your host Al Boo Boo and thank you for dropping by, you can be anywhere in the world right now, but you’re here with me, I appreciate that.

Yeaaah, man. It feels good to be back. Well, not really I’m not really back per se, I’ve been reading columns, posting in the forums and such. But damn – with school starting and trying to enjoy the end of summer (not to mention a short vacation up to Oregon to help fellow columnist –and brother, Zuma, pack up his house, it’s been hard to actually write something. I haven't been able to finish a column for the life of me. But, that day is passed. No matter what you know me as - Al Boo Boo - Al - Samoa Boo - The Boo-ster. I'm back with a new column. So let's get this thing going. I'm fucking more than ready.

The Friday Night Write – The Prodigal King

I was raised catholic, or at least, with the title “Catholic”. I didn’t go to catholic score or anything, but, I always knew, or more so, believed, there was a god. To this day I believe there is one. And now I even go to a catholic high school. Last week in my Fourth Period religion class we studied the story of the “Lost son”. Also known as the “Prodigal Son”. The story as told bye Al Boo Boo goes as such…

The son, falling to the greed that lies in all human hearts, demands his portion of his fathers estate.

    His father obliges.

The son, being also of human lust and gluttony, spoils every dollar on coke and bitches. And, after coming down from a haze of sex and drugs, famine comes across the land he was inhabiting. He finds that the combination of Famine and being broke do not mix, so he feels forced to go back home. However, along the way, he is met by his father. Expecting much hostility and animosity form his father, the son throws himself into his fathers arms, weeping and apologizing.

I mean, of course he should think his father would be pissed. He took the cash, ran off to a far away land, and spoiled the hard-earned money on coke and bitches. Granted, it was grade A Columbian, and the bitches were very high-class. But I digress…

is father, shocked by his sons reactions, can’t help but laugh. The son, confused by the laughter, asks why. The father explains that he and the family figured he was dead, he explained how long he mourned, how hard he wept. Then, he explained that he is just happy to have him back. As the son walked back into town, the whole community rejoiced. And to quote:

‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.”

Yeah, I just quoted the Gospel according to Luke in a column. Your welcome. That’s what you all need, some God in your life. Purgatory is a very lonely place.

But to continue on, after hearing this story I tried to understand it. I pondered it for a good amount of time. I wanted to know why the father so easily took his son back. Why he forgave him, even after the son confessed that he wasn’t dead, but stuck in a 3 year orgy. Is it a lesson of god’s love for all of us? Or is it simply a tale of human forgiveness. This point, I will come back to later.

So as with all things I learn in school, I try to relate it to something in my life that interests me. Whether it be sports, music, or professional wrestling, I relate things back to something that I like in order to understand it. What I related this tale of “The prodigal son” back to none other than Mr. Levesque – McMahon himself, Triple H.

Why you ask? How, you question? Well, just as the name of this column implies, I feel Triple H is the “Prodigal King” of professional wrestling - mainly, of course, WWE. It was actually quite funny when I came to this revelation. Don’t get where I am coming from? Let me take you back, way back, back into time. A time where the Millennium was new. The year, was 2001.

The day to be exact was May 21. The Game, who at the time was teaming with Stone Cold Steve Austin, was having somewhat of a bad day. First off, he loses the tag team titles. Oh but that’s not all – He lost them… to… to two Canadians. Granted, these two Canadians were two of the best to ever do it – Jericho and Benoit – they are still Canadian.

But, what really put he nail in the coffin on this day from hell, was his quite serious injury. While Stone Cold was trapped in the Walls of Jericho, H went to save him. And in a small and honest mistake he planted the wrong foot, putting a severe amount of pressure on it. The result of this, being a torn quad on his left leg. The injury would take eight whole months to recover. And during the whole duration of being sidelined, he rehabbed. And while he rehabbed, the wrestling world missed him. I mean, not in the sense that there was no one to take his place, just, Raw didn’t feel the same without him. Granted, there was a free fifteen minutes on every Raw for maybe something better than a H promo. But god damnit, people missed him. And thus was proven, when eight months later… he returned.

H left as a heel. But when he returned, he returned and was over. Over like rover, baby. Look at that video, the people went crazy. And why? What did he do do deserve to be cheered? What babyface actions did he involve himself with to get a monster pop like that? Ha wasn’t even on the freakin’ show! He got that pop, because he’s the King of Kings. Weeks later, Triple H would come into the Royal Rumble as entrant 22. And by eliminating three people, the last of these 3 being Kurt Angle. With the elimination of Angle, HHH would be crowned as the Winner of the 2002 Royal Rumble. Only to, a couple months later, headline Wrestlemania and win the Undisputed Title against Y2J Chris Jericho. With this Storybook ending, HHH found himself in a new situation. The crowd was now attached to him after seeing his wife (Stephanie McMahon) turn on him and join forces with his opponent. And what did HHH do when he found himself with the support of the crowd? Yeah, the thing that every great heel does.
    Turn on them.

Fast forward. Hunter jobs out to Batista for three straight PPV’s. He decides to take off a couple months. 3H steps aside and let’s ‘Tistamania run wild. And then, at the perfect time, he returned. At one of the biggest shows in Raw history – And I say that in a legitimate way. Not the JR week after week “THIS IS THE BIGGEST RAW EVER! CENA VS EDGE!! WE’VE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE! I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN! BAH GAWD, KING. TODAY 30 MEN WILL STEP INTO… MY ASS!” – but this was actually a big deal for Raw. It was titled “Homecoming” and it was the return of Raw to the USA network.

October 3, 2005. Triple H makes his return to tag with partner Ric Flair against rising stars Masters and Carlito. The match was short, but the impact was great. Every move, every tag in by H was met with a plethora of cheers. People were going crazy, once again, for the King. And once again, the odd thing was, when he left he was the top heel. The top bad guy going against the top babyface, Batista. But, when he comes back from his leave of absence, people go crazy. And it’s not like he went up against two guys that had a good amount of heat. I mean, the two mid-carders had heat, but they also both had a fairly good following. And, to repeat and define a point, they were mid-carders.

However, this time, he didn’t wait long. Right after picking up the win, H turned on Flair. Taking his signature Sledgehammer and smashing it right between the eyes of Ric Flair. The beating continued through two commercial breaks. Not only did H solidify the fact that he was back, but he put out the message that he wasn’t fucking around. He pounded on the old man for over 10 minutes. And after, he got exactly what he wanted, heat. People haaated him all throughout the feud these two had. And for the right reasons, he did some sick shit to Flair, and Flair just made him look like even worse a villain with the promos he delivered.

Time passed. H did his thing. Had a feud with Cena, jobbed clean. Reformed DX. Buried the Spirit Squad – VKM – The Raw Tag Team Division. Until finally meeting a viable opponent in Rated RKO. And on January 7, 2006 at New Year’s Revolution history repeated itself. Ironically, five years to the day, he tears the other quad performing a spinebuster on Randy Orton. Yeah, chalk another fuck up there for old RKO. Ha.

The match, which was a complete botchfest from the get-go, only got worse. It ended with no decision, and really didn’t do anything for the feud, which really had to be nixed as soon as H went down. It was immediately reported that H had tore his right Quad. With that, H’s reign over Raw ended five years to the day it began. After going under the knife, H began rehab, and is currently still in the process of healing. In his shadow was HBK, what to do, what to do. Well, why not go after the World title?

And so he did. He came within inches of winning the Royal Rumble, but to no avail. However, he was named Number 1 contender and will now be going up against Cena. Whether he wins or not is yet to be seen. But what if he does? What happens then? Trips should be coming back from his surgery at Summerslam, and will be facing another King in "King" Booker. And I can just tell you one thing...

People are going to go crazy.

This will mark the first time HHH has left WWE programming as a babyface. And I can assure you, we he returns, he will be just as much – if not more – over. That’s what makes Paul Levesque special. He can leave for months, just totally off TV. No word of what he’s doing, how he’s doing, nothing. But when he comes back, people get excited. People want to see him again. People let it be know that they missed him.

The IWC can call shanigans. Call that he plays politics. Complain that he holds down talent. Make allegations that he’s only out for number 1. But every post I’ll rad that is guilty of this I’ll disagree. While yes, he knows he has power, and knows that he can, so what? He’s in a good spot and he knows it. If he feels he can do a good, or better, job than why shouldn’t he put himself in that situation. People will never give him the respect that he deserves as a worker. The guys effort level is parallel to say, The Rocks. He just goes out there and gives it his all. While he might not be able to water into wine on the level that a Benoit can, he can put on some pretty good matches

The best thing about this, is that Paul knows he has this power. He knows that at any time, he can leave, take a break, come back and just wreck shop with the same fanbase he left with. It’s an interesting paradox if you think about it. Usually, it’s the polar opposite in wrestling. If someone is off TV for an extended period of time, we tend to forget about them or why we liked (or disliked) them in the first place. What H does is involve the people in his storylines so deep, that even if we’re supposed to hate him, we hate him as if it’s someone we care about.
Or is it simply a tale of human forgiveness. This point, I will come back to later.
Told you I’d come back to it. Even though every time he leaves your screen you’re supposed to hate him, when he returns, you’re absolutely in love with him. That folks, is a testament to human forgiveness. Though he leaves on everyones shitlist –when he returns, he automatically jumps to the top of the chart. This accolade cannot be achieved by any politics. He can’t plan it himself. He can only tell the tech guy to play his music, and his only job left is to walk out. It’s an experiment, and every time he takes the risk of walking out onto that ramp, he is successful. The people cheer. He comes back and the fans are glad to see him.

    Closing the Cuts

‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.”

But to why I bring this quote up again. As stated before, this passage taken out of the aforementioned parable “The Prodigal Son” shows the happiness of the father who comes to find that not only is his Son alive, but has spoiled his money on Coke and Whores. However, he is still joyed to have his son back, no matter how evil he’s been, no matter how much he’s sinned.

The robe: Any new character tweaks H decides to put into his gimmick
The Ring: A title. Whether it be the World Title. Tag Title. IC title.
The fattened calf: Whoever the top star of the day is.
The feast and celebration: The cheers he gets when he returns

For H was dead, and now he is alive. He was lost, and the king… he is found and is ready to return to his Kingdom.

    Amen. Long live the King.
