- Thanks to Lee U-Wen for sending in the following results:
I just got back from the WWE Smackdown! Summerslam tour here in Singapore, and thought I'd send in the results. It was a great show, and it was the first time in nearly four years that we fans here got to see live WWE action. The arena was about 75% full, and even though there were many big stars such as Edge and Undertaker missing due to injury, the 20 superstars that made the long-haul trip here clearly made up for their absence by putting on some great matches during the nearly 3-hour long show. The only let-down? Not a single pyro at all. Sigh. Here are the results: 1) Chris Masters vs Ric Flair The roof nearly came down when the Nature Boy made his entrance, and the arena was filled with "wooooooooooooos" everytime he hit his trademark reverse chop. Masters looked in tip top shape, and gave Flair a tough match. In the end, Flair managed to evade the Masterlock and clipped Masters twice in the left knee before locking in his Figure Four. After about five seconds, Masters tapped out and Flair celebrated. Great way to start the show. Winner by submission: Ric Flair 2) WWE Tag Team Championship Deuce & Domino (c) w/Cherry vs Major Brothers Not many people in Singapore knew who the Major Brothers were, but they certainly endeared themselves well with some fancy high-flying moves. I have no idea who is Brett and who is Bryan, but they seemed to work well together in the ring. This 10-minute match came to a close when Cherry interfered from the outside, allowing Deuce to hit a cheap shot on one of the Majors for the easy pin. Winners: Deuce & Domino 3) Michelle McCool vs Victoria This divas match actually went a lot longer than I thought, and allowed both ladies to display their full range of moves. McCool looked absolutely hot and was given time to show that she has the potential to go far in this business. However, she did botch a side-suplex, with Victoria actually landing on top of her in the process. McCool then managed to weasel out of the Widow's Peak and silenced Victoria with a belly-to-belly suplex for the pin. A good show by both divas. Winner: Michelle McCool 4) Elijah Burke vs Stevie Richards A decent pop for Richards, a chorus of boos for Burke. I don't watch much ECW, so am not really a fan of these two. Richards has come a long way since his "Right to Censor" days back in the 90s, and he looked pretty ripped and in great shape. Burke - the leader of the New Breed - was at one point so pissed with the bad reception he was getting and threatened to leave the arena if the fans did not show him any respect. In the end, with the referee counting up to 8, Burke returned to the ring. He eventually hit his Elijah Experience move (not very impressive) and scored the win. Winner: Elijah Burke 5) Kane vs Finlay Finlay came to the ring, angry as ever, with shillelaigh in hand. Kane's entrance guaranteed him the biggest pop of the night (at that point). Kane seems to have put on weight and his gut was spilling out over his tights. Still, that didn't stop him from overpowering Finlay on many occasions, hitting both a side suplex and flying clothesline. Hornswoggle then interfered, and in a moment of comic relief, put his green hat on Kane and even tried to chokeslam him. A bemused Kane replied by chokeslamming the little fella and did the same to Finlay for the 1-2-3. Winner: Kane Intermission 6) ECW World Championship John Morrison (c) vs Tommy Dreamer Ring announcer Tony Chimmel actually announced Morrison as "Johnny Nitro", and this did not sit well with the champion. He grabbed the mike and instantly let everyone know that he had changed his name three weeks ago. Still pissed, Morrison even threw his fur coat on top of Chimmel before the match started. Dreamer looked in good shape and a title win was even teased with a number of very close falls. Nit....I mean, Morrison (who boasts the best six-pack in the business today) then scored with his swinging neckbreaker move (is it still called the Snapshot?) and retained in an entertaining match. Winner: John Morrison 7) Chavo Guerrero vs Rey Mysterio Wow, the pop that greeted Mysterio gave me goosebumps. It was great to see Rey-Rey back after being out for so long through injury. Wearing a nice green mask, he had revenge on his mind and went after Guerrero early on. Remember, it was Chavo who put Rey out of action earlier this year at one of the PPVs. The fans were clamouring for the 6-1-9 all night and Rey was about to hit it when his knee gave way. Chavo then hit the Three Amigos and scored a near pinfall. Rey then recovered to perform the West Coast Pop, and finally the 6-1-9 and an over-the-top-rope legdrop to silence Chavo for good. Winner: Rey Mysterio 8) Main event - World Heavyweight Championship Great Khali (c) vs Batista My goodness, you have to see Khali in person to marvel at this guy's size. He is one man who can make Batista actually look small. The match lasted barely five minutes when Finlay and Hornswoggle (I can't believe this dude is the reigning Cruiserweight champion) stormed the ring and pounded on Batista, causing the DQ. Kane came to Batista's rescue and the Great Khali grabbed his belt and made his way up the ramp. Winner by DQ: Batista Not impressed, Batista grabbed the mike and called Khali a "Great Chicken", demanding that he and Finlay return to the ring and face both him and Kane in a tag-team match. Khali shook his head, but two referees behind him and Finlay ordered them back into the ring. Chimmel (who was also the timekeeper for the night) rang the bell and so we have.....
9) Kane and Batista vs Great Khali and Finlay End-to-end stuff here in this match. Khali was on the apron for most of the match, and it was Finlay and Batista who were in action early on. Finlay wore down Batista and tagged in Khali, who wrapped his big hand around the cranium of Batista. Batista managed to tag Kane in, who promptly got rid of Finlay. The favourites swung Khali into the ropes and he was tied up. Hornswoggle then tried to interfere, but Batista and Kane grabbed the little dude and used him as a battering ram into the gut of Khali. Khali freed himself and tried to chokeslam both Batista and Kane, but that was blocked and the favourites slammed Khali to the mat instead. Finlay re-entered the ring and Batista nailed his spinebuster-Batista Bomb combo for the pinfall. Very entertaining match. Winners: Kane and Batista All in all, a decent show considering that so many wrestlers from Smackdown and ECW were not around - Edge, Undertaker, US Champ MVP, Mark Henry, Boogeyman, Torrie Wilson, Matt Hardy, to name a few. After the event, the fans crowded around the exit to watch the superstars board the bus back to the hotel. Flair and Batista refused to come down from the bus, but the sporting ones like Mysterio, McCool, Cherry, Major Brothers all stopped to sign autographs and pose for pictures. I hope it won't be another 4 years before the WWE comes to the Far East again, and hopefully it will be the Raw brand next time.
