    ECW 6/26/2007 San Antonio, Texas:

I went to the double show of ECW and Smackdown tapings last night and I had a blast! That's why this report is late. When I got home my VCR was off and it didn’t record ECW for me so all of this will be from memory. I don’t remember every move of both matches but I’ll try.

Supposedly Vince McMahon made a speech somewhere backstage about the Chris Benoit tribute but the live audience never saw it! Anyway from what I read Vince said he didn’t know about how the Benoit’s died before they aired the Chris Benoit tribute and said there will not be any more mention on Benoit on this show and the wrestlers of ECW and Smackdown will move on tonight from the tragedy.

Match 1: WWE Champion John Cena vs. ECW Champion Johnny Nitro

Cena got the biggest reaction of the night, out of both shows (ECW and Smackdown). This was a very good back and forth match. Cena was on offense first with a headlock but Nitro counters later in the match and tosses Cena to the outside. Nitro then controls most of the match working on Cena’s neck, using a neck vice. Cena made the comeback and nailed the five knuckle shuffle and went for the FU but Nitro countered with jumping to the top rope and nailing a spinning enziguiri for a two count. Nitro then nailed a neckbreaker for another two count. Cena countered Nitro and went up top and nailed a huge leg drop! Cena applied the STFU for the submission victory!

    Winner: WWE Champion John Cena

Rating: *** ¼ (Sorry about the lack of details but I really can’t remember every move. It’s basically every move in every Cena and Nitro singles matches. It was a very good match though and the best of the night out of both shows. The crowd loved Cena and he was very friendly giving young kids his wrist bands and posed for the crowd.)

Hot Rod Rowdy Roddy Piper made his way out to the ring to a big ovation! Hot Rod worked up the crowd talking about ECW and hardcore. He says you aren’t hardcore until you’ve gone through some of the things he has. Matt Striker’s music hits and he makes his way down to the ring. Behind Striker is some guy with a birthday cake that says happy birthday Matt. Matt introduces to Piper as his teacher Matt Striker. Striker tells Piper that it’s his birthday and he would love nothing more than his favorite wrestler of all time sing happy birthday to him. Piper asked if the crowd would join him and we did. Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear….what’s your name asked Piper. Matt Strike….Piper shoves the cake into Striker’s face! Piper leaves the ring and The Boogeyman’s music hits! Striker and Piper look where the Boogeyman is and he comes from under the ring. Striker runs away but Piper throws him back in! Boogeyman nails the chokeslam powerbomb to Striker on the cake and grabs some worms and puts them in Striker’s mouth! Striker actually chews them! (I hated seeing the Boogeyman on TV but I have to admit seeing him live and in the front row he’s actually very entertaining. Poor Striker haha and Piper was great to see live as well!)

The Miz is coming to ECW.

Johnny Nitro is interviewed backstage. He says who ever wins tonight between CM Punk and Elijah Burke he will beat them and keep his ECW Championship. He also mentions that he was sick tonight and still had the courage to face Cena earlier.

Match 2: Two Out of Three Falls Match to Become the Number One Contender:
    Elijah Burke vs. CM Punk

Burke works up the crowd saying he’s better than our MVP Tony Parker (MVP did the same thing earlier, but it made more sense with him since his name is MVP.) This match was kinda slow and disappointing in the beginning sadly but picked up during the middle and end. The first fall was one when Burke tied up Punk in the tree of woe and nailed the Elijah Express to Punk’s back for the win. The second fall went to Punk who rolled up Burke for the surprising three. Then the match went back and forth. Punk nailed a dropkick and the high knee and running bulldog. Burke countered with the Elijah Experience for only two. Punk caught Burke and nailed the GTS for the win!

    Winner: CM Punk

Rating: ** ½ (They got enough time but the beginning really dragged out until the middle then it kicked into gear a bit. The crowd was quiet on occasions but were behind Punk though and he was well receipted.)

After the match Johnny Nitro came out to the entrance and he and Punk had a staredown. Punk told Nitro next week meaning he would get his title opportunity next week. Then I saw myself on the screen so maybe I was on TV!

OVERALL: The whole night was fun but after seeing 12 matches total you get kinda tired in the end! I really enjoyed ECW. A Cena appearance, a Piper segment, and two good matches really made this edition of ECW enjoyable and being there live helps enjoy it! 8/10.

Have a good one everyone, Jason
