I had the pleasure of attending one of the stops on TNA's New England tour and the show was great. Now it was a house show so it was a mix of talent. The Twin River Events Center wasn't anywhere near sold out, but the crowd was hot the entire night. The ring was actually pretty tiny so I was a bit concerned with the safety of the talent, but then again this might actually be standard size as this is the first non-WWE show I've ever attended.
TNA House Show 6-23-07 Twin River Events Center Lincoln, RI
We start off with someone(I think Bill Banks) welcoming us all to the show and introducing Jeremy Borash as our ring announcer. Outside the ring was a table with a laptop on it so I'm guessing that as JB announced the wrestlers, he was also in charge of playing their music.
"Showtime" Eric Young vs. Robert Roode w/Ms. Brooks Eric Young starts the match pointing to himself to cheers of the crowd followed by pointing to Roode with boos repeating the cycle a few times. Young ran outside the ring a few times to interact with the crowd. At one point, Young went outside the ring and danced with Ms. Brooks. This was pretty much their match from Slammiversary. At one point, Ms. Brooks actually begged Roode to allow her to wrestle only to have him attack Young from behind when he wasn't looking. The end saw Roode perched on the top rope with Ms. Brooks going after Young. Young lifted her on his shoulders in a fireman's carry and used her head to hit Roode in the crotch. Young carried Roode on top of Ms. Brooks and did a double DVD covering Roode for the win.
Winner: "Showtime" Eric Young
Triple Threat Tag Team Match Serotonin(Martyr and Havok) vs. The Naturals vs. Latin American Xchange LAX was over huge with the crowd. The Naturals seemed to confuse the crowd as Andy Douglas for most of the match was playing a face while Chase Stevens was playing a heel. Homicide played the "face" in peril to Serotonin most of the time and partially to the Naturals. Homicide eventually got the hot tag to Hernandez who cleaned house. The end saw Hernandez throwing Havok to the outside onto the Naturals. Hernandez slammed Martyr to the ground while Homicide hit a senton off the top rope. Hernandez covered Martyr for the win.
Winners: Latin American Xchange
X-Division Match "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal vs. Kaz Lethal was over huge with the crowd doing this Black Machismo gimmick. Both guys put on some nice sequences throughout this match. Lethal hits the Lethal Combination for the win.
Winner: "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal
Brother Runt vs. Lance Hoyt JB announced that Runt was from Twin River, RI. Runt got on the mic and called him stupid cause Twin River is located in Lincoln, RI. JB tried to save himself by saying he heard that he was conceived in one of the rooms. There are actually no rooms in Twin River as it's not a big casino with table games. This was a nice big man vs. little man match. Beginning had Runt sent out to the outside a number of times, but he kept getting back in the ring before the 10 count. Runt hits the Acid Drop for the win.
Winner: Brother Runt
"Wildcat" Chris Harris vs. "Cowboy" James Storm w/Jackie Moore The match started with Storm continually going to the outside to taunt the fans. There seemed to be one time where Storm almost started cracking up doing it. Both wrestlers had some great in ring chemistry. The match even got interactive as Harris brought Storm to the outside and held him wide open for a few fans around ringside to chop him. Harris goes to cover Storm after hitting a big spinebuster, but Jackie got on the apron to distract the referee. Harris went to grab the ref to say that he had him pinned, but got a superkick from Storm who got the pinfall victory.
Winner: "Cowboy" James Storm
Post match Storm walks up the aisle while Jackie tried to attack Harris. Harris scoops her up and threatens to hit her with the Catatonic. Storm runs back into the ring and Harris takes care of both of them. Harris hangs Jackie in the tree of woe while he Storm falls in a seated position right in front of her. Harris pulls Jackie down and she's in another position with Storm.
Intermission
"The Monster" Abyss vs. "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels Daniels comes out first and cuts a promo on the crowd saying everyone doesn't know who they are which is probably why they all like Abyss. He says to bring that retard out here. Abyss enters the ring and is immediately met by Daniels who lays in a few shots. Daniels bounces off the ropes only to meet a Blackhole Slam allowing the victory for Abyss. This match only lasted like 45 seconds.
Winner: "The Monster" Abyss
Special Challenge Match "The War Machine" Rhino vs. "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles The crowd is split between "Lets go AJ" and "Lets go Rhino". Styles gets on the mic and says that he doesn't need their help. Rhino takes the mic and says its their own right to cheer whomever they want just like its his right to beat the living crap out of him. This was a great match between the two. The Pele is awesome to see live. Styles attempts to put the Styles Clash on Rhino, but gets backdropped. Styles gets up all groggy and turns around to meet a Gore that turns him inside-out. Rhino gets the pin.
Winner: "The War Machine" Rhino
JB thanks us all for coming and hopes that we all had a great time before announcing the main event.
TNA Tag Team Championship Match Team 3D(c) vs. Christian Cage and Tomko The crowd starts chanting "Get the tables". Cage grabs the mic and says that if the crowd doesn't stop chanting, Tomko will kick all their asses. Ray quiets everyone down and gets the crowd chanting "Get the tables". Ray takes the mic and says that the crowd is their to see Cage and Tomko get their asses kicked, not to watch them get all lovey dovey. He accuses Tomko of oiling Cage up real nice, bending him over, and spanking him. This actually leads to a couple times in the match where Cage grabs Tomko's ass. This was a great main event match with all the participants enjoying themselves. At one point, Cage actually did an old Scotty 2 Hotty spot where he would bounce up and down on the bottom rope laughing only to fall to the ground. The ref gets knocked out after Tomko is sent into the turnbuckle sandwiching him. Team 3D do the wassup headbutt to Cage. "Devon!!!" "What!!" "1-2-3" and the crowd screamed "Get the tables." Tomko runs in with a double clothesline. Cage rolls to the outside to grab two chairs. Cage and Tomko attempt the Conchairto on Ray, but he ducks and we get the chairs smashing together with some kind of powder. Cage gets the device while Tomko gets a 3D. Ray gets the pin on Tomko to retain the tag titles.
Winners and still TNA Tag Team Champions: Team 3D
Post match Ray checks to see if the crowd had a good time. They were in the Northeast and its usually thought of the territory of the other wrestling company to a chorus of boos, but Lincoln, RI is TNA territory. They invite two kids into the ring to give them hats and autographs. They even got to hold the tag belts. Very nice for the kids and I'm sure they'll have a great memory.
I actually enjoyed this house show a lot more than a number of the WWE shows I've attended in the last few years.
