Wooow. The main page, eh? Well, my name, as you’ve figured out by now, is Al Boo Boo esquire. And in all honestly, I ain’t nothing special. Just a seventeen year old kid from California that loves to watch dude’s pretend to fight.. er… I mean wrestle. I have to say, it’s a huge suprise to get the call up, but I am ever appreciative to old Uncle Calvin and all the others who called out my name. And now, I’m on the biggest stage I can have on this intranet. Anyway, this is my column, the Friday Night Write, it rhymes and it rolls right off the tongue. It’s broken up into a couple sections, which have explanations under them. But for now, let’s get this thing going with the…

Weigh-In This section is reserved for me to just voice my opinion on the current goings on of the wrestling world. Whether it be a review for this past Raw, or predictions for the next Pay-Per-View, these are my current thoughts.

WWE Champion John Cena vs. The Great Khali (Pinfalls Count Anywhere Match)

This actually could be the only way to pull out a GOOD match from Khali. We’ve seen him bleed before, and that was quite uh.. well.. hysterical. There culd be some REAL good psychology here, as the build up beens pretty decent with the whole “I’m not afraid of you” thing. Cena could hit him with a chair a couple times, and it could have little to no effect on Khali. However, I se Khali doing the job, and laying down for Super Cena.

ECW World Champion Mr. McMahon vs. Bobby Lashley (Street Fight)

How here’s one that i’m actually a bit excited for. THIS one could actually be really good. You know Mcmahon is down for doing some crazy ass shit. And Lashley is actually getting better in the ring. On the mic, not so much, but he’s learning his way inside the squared circle, and anyone can swing a chair. Expect blood, expect some run-ins, and expect a title chancge.

World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs. Batista (Steel Cage Match)

Now here’s a match that could go either way. These two have the potential to put on a really good cage match, but, Batista is so unpredictable in his matches that you really can’t tell anymore. There more than likely won’t be any color in this match, and it’ll more than likely end in some lame way where Edge escapes in some punk heel-ish way.

World Tag Team Champions The Hardys vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team (Ladder Match)

You know, this match could be something really, really, reaaally awesome. Besides the fact that TWGTT’s return has been a huge disapointment. But these are four of the WWE’s most athletic guys, and you know Jeff and Shelton are always ready to do some crazy shit. If they’re going to, this would be the show to do it on. Some will get the Twist of Fate off the ladder. And I can promise that Shelton at some point of the match run up the ladder. Oh, and he’ll totally blow a spot and fall flat on his face. But, someone falling on there face is always good entertainment, so I’m pretty sure this match will be pretty good at the very least.

    Six-Man Tag Team Tables Match

Eh, not a bad match. Some great potential with the hardcore rules. Hopefully Punk can really shine. This could very well be the Originals last hoo-raw, and hopefully, they go out with a bang the way that only the ECW originals could. But then again, the chances that this becomes a clusterfuck are higher than the chance that

Randy Orton vs. RVD (Stretcher Match)

A stretcher match, huh? There’s something that’s not too common in the ‘E. But, it does fit this match perfect. It is a great idea, though. Throw the two guys who practically live in the doughouse into a feud together. Luckily for Orton, and unluckily for RVD, RKO is WWE’s golden child who can do no wrong. With all the reports coming out that Van Dam will be done with the company any one of these days, you can expect that he’ll lose. However, I will lose a lot of respect for him if he really just goes out there and straight lays down for this salad tosser. One Night Stand is ECW’s night, and Rob knows he’s onhis way out of the company, go out there and start shooting your mouth off. Rough up Orton a little. Psh, why not.

Unless of course it will be a breach of contract, in that case, get yo’ money, Rob.

Melina vs Candice Michelle (Pudding Match)

This match could be hit or miss. It could actually be really entertaining. Of course, it all falls down on what flavor of pudding they will use. You see, if they use chocolate pudding, it will take away a lot from the match. Melina, with her dark skin, will not look good covored in a dark brown substance. However, in a nice, creamy white pudding, with their two bodies slamming against eachother, could actually be quite entertaining for about 2 or 3 minutes. My only complaint is that it really doesn’t fit into the whole “Extreme” feel of the show. I mean, sure it’s a gimmick match, but it’s no “Jello in a Cell-O”!

    Promo Of the Week
-Wrestling is a form of entertainment…this is the guy who really entertained me this week.

In all honestly, not too many candidates this week. I was thinking that Edge-Batista on Smackdown might get the mod, but then I actually watched it, and it was um… pretty, pretty bad. So, the winner of the first Main Page edition of the Promo of the Week goes to the reigning champion, John Cena. He delivered his comedic lines the Rock style, which almost killed the segment as a whole. But, he regained his composure, and well, lost it again, but this time for in a good way. Cena was SUPER intense, and didn’t look ridiculous doing it. And as he said “I’ve had a lot of critics, and I take pride in shuting them up.” And well, that’s exactly what he’s been doing.

    What?!?! Moment of the week
-This is the moment of either show that just made me ask why. No, not in a philosophical sense, but like a “what the fuck are they thinking” kind of way. Kind of like a WTF!?!??!

While unintentionally hilarious, it was, well, hilarious. The first main page WTF??!! Moment of the week goes to Umaga and Khali’s backstage segment. For a second, I thought about giving this Promo of the week, but, it just didn’t seem right. Because in the end, it was just so confusing, and it really did nothing. Being unintentially funny, while funny, is really not funny. And two guys, that really can speak english, screaming at each other in two strange languages is, while funny, really just not funny. And totally makes me go WTF??!!??!!ONE?!!

    Main Event
-This is it... This is why we’re here… Every wrestling show has many matches that can or cannot be as good as the Main Event. This people, is the Main event.

In my younger days, I played Pop Warner football. I was defensive line, Tackle to be exact. I wasn’t bad, either. I was a starter, I saw action on almost every play, however, I always felt that I wasn’t doing enough. You see, the head coach was a real hard-ass, and he would always tell us that when we’re out their on the field, or the “Gridiron” as he dubbed it, we always had to give 110%. He told us that our best effort wasn’t enough. We had to go above and beyond, and be better than what we ever thought we could be every single game. At the time, it was a litte discouraging. I’d go out there and give it my all, but after every game, win or lose, he would be on us saying that it wasn’t enough, and we weren’t giving enough out there. I hated it, I was there to have fun with my friends, not win a Super Bowl.

However, in my mind a battle raged. I felt like I was doing my all, but I could never satisfy my coach. I started to evaluate my game plan. I began critisizing myself over every little thing I did. Soon enough, because I was being so critical of myself, my game went from good, to bad, to horrible. After seeing this, my coach pulled me aside one day after practice, and after verbally raping me, there were four words that opened up the door I need to say what need to be said. “Are you even trying?”. Psh, after that it was over. I told the coach about how I wasn’t trying anymore because it seemed as if no matter how much I did try, it was never good enough. I explained how I “didn’t know how to give 110%.” In response to this, my coach looked me right in the eye and told me that that whole 110% thing was bullshit, and that the best thing I could do out there was just give it my all, my 100%. I was shocked to hear that he believed his own advice was false, but when I asked him why he believed this, the picture he was trying to paint became clear.

He told me that in order to ever give something your all, you have to shoot for something higher than what you think is your best. Because if you just go for your best, you’re more than likely going to settle for less. But, if you go for that level that can be considered above and beyond, then you can realize your full potential. The sad thing is, hardly anyone ever actually recognizes this thought. Most people these days don’t even give thing their all because they don’t think it’s necesarry. This is something I’ve seen in all aspects of entertainment. In music, emcee’s are getting lazy with their rhymes and making songs that are just totally and utterly banal. Movies are getting lame, sequal after sequal, each one worst than the last. However, none of this has bothered me more than the one that gave me the inspiration to write this column.

These past couple weeks while watching my favorite show, Raw, I’ve been noticing something that I honestly haven’t noticed too much of in the past couple years. It began with a bang, and I remember it like it was yesterday. It was 10:00 and out came none other than “The Heartbreak Kid”. I figured to myself “sweet, a HBK promo”. However, right after, Cena’s music hit. I thought to myself – “Sweet, do the main event right during the middle of the show.[/sarcastic]” The match continued, and it was quite decent. Around the 10:30 match I remember thinking “Wow, they’re giving this match a lot of time.” And then, around the 10:45 mark – by this time I was really into the match – I realized “Wow, they’re giving this match the whole hour.” I was shocked, nay, befuttled. I figured it would be a time-limit draw, which was what made it so special when HBK hit that sweet chin music and got the 1,2,3. I didn’t even have a reaction, I just sat there, utterly amazed at what I had just seen. It wasn’t an AMAZING match, it wasn’t five stars, but damn, it was a really good match. It had good phsycology, with Cena really starting to struggle and get frustrated, both guys pulled out all of their moves, and they picked their spots very smartly. They really spaced them out over that fifty-six minute span . And, it was good just for what it meant. It was, so to say, a “dawning of a new era”.

I say this because ever since that match took place, as I said before, I’ve seen a real step up in the amount of effort that’s been put into matches. Week after week Raw produces at least one match that ranges from really really solid to actually quite good. Though this doesn’t sound like much, it’s a lot better than the crap they were settling with before. Because of this, the show’s are getting a lot better. There was even argument, before he went out for his surgery, that Micheals was becoming the top worker in the world. He was putting on great matches consistently, week after week. The 3 matches he had with Cena were all awesome. Shit, the dude even carried Khali to a suprisingly really entertaining match. Even though it was filled with a whole bunch of that lame-ass HBK “I’m better than this guy, so I’m going to oversell everything he does to make him look silly. But in reality I look like a complete douche-bag idiot” selling, however, it was one of Khali's better, or I guess I should say, it was one of his only good matches.

What really boggles me, though, is that the wrestlers seem to be the only one’s that are really stepping up their game. While the wrestlers go out and give a good effort, the booking doesn’t seem to be picking up at all. I understand that it takes a while to really change directions with the show, but things are just so lame. For example…

    ** Rant **

Saturday Nights Main Event is tonight (Saturday, duh). They announced the main event match as Cena – Khali in a non-title match. Here’s a jolly good thought, let’s show you the match that we want you to pay Forty bucks to see, less than 24 hours from now. Ok, next, you know Smackdown? Yeah, let’s just take all the feuds we have on that show, and just throw them into a match. Check, next… eh… oh, here’s a thought, let’s take the four lamest gimmicks we have, and put them in a match. The fact that they are going to put on a show that will be on network television, albeit at a shitty hour on a shitty day, with the current line-up they have is just absurd. I’m not saying that have to put together some kind of supercard, but really, what on that card is going to make people want to come back? Nothing. Oh, the fact that Khali is so huge? I don’t think so. The fact that we’ll see two midgets wrestling? No. It’s like they think “You know… maybe if we throw all the bad shit we do into one big pile of steaming SHIT, it won’t smell as bad.”

It just eeks the shit out of me that they’re just doesn’t seem to be anyone TRYING anymore. Just like the bookers sit down at their round table, and just breeze through their meeting because they have to get back to counting their money. Give us something good, give us something entertaining. If I have enough time to sit here and write a column complaining about you guys… you guys have enough time to sit down and do your fucking job and do it right. It’s not that fucking hard. I have a whole bunch of ideas, shoot me an e-mail guys, maybe you can put me on payroll.

It doesn’t take too much of that extra effort to make a show a whole lot better. Throw in one swerve to a storyline. Book a match that I won’t know the winner of before you even announce the match. I thought that the show was predictable because I was a “Smark”, but no, it’s just because everything is so damn predictable. It’s ridiculous.

Just a little bit of effort. That’s all I really ask for these days. People these days are easily entertained. Give them a couple extra spotlights. Some bigger explosions. And a new shiny set, and they’ll be happy. For these few little extra couple additions, the ratings could raise at least a point, if not 2. To go along with these additions, if we can get some good booking, and just put some effort into the matches themselves, then the ratings could skyrocket. Think about what made the mid-late nineties so popular. Good wrestling, mixed with good booking. That was nearly ten years ago… don’t you think it’s time for another Pro-wrestling kaboom? Well… that’s a whole other column.

You see, just like my coach told me, in order the give something your all, you really need to give it more. With the WWE right now, it doesn’t even seem like there giving a half-ass effort. It’s not up to the wrestlers to make the product better, and I don’t blame them. At the end of the day, they don’t see a penny extra. It’s up to Vince, his booking team, and the production to make the show better. And if they can do this, they’ll make more money.
And in the end, isn’t that really why they put on the show?

    Closing the cuts.
Just wraping up my thoughts. Wrapping up the column. Saying bye.
