Well, ladies and gentlemen, I never really got to say goodbye, so I thought I'd offer up my thoughts on Judgment Day (since I was LIVE in attendance)...
Carlito vs. Flair- Crowd was struggled to stay into this match thanks to Carlito's boring heel offense. Carlito plays a better heel character, but if last night was any indication of what we can expect from him in regards to his wrestling as a heel, then we're in for some boring action...and that's not cool. Anyhow, lots of "Woo"s from the crowd a nice pop when Flair won. (*3/4)
Lashley vs. McMahon and Co.- The crowd gave Lashley a very nice reaction. I went to get another beer after the 1-minute match ended, so I didn't catch the crowd's reax to the post-match McMahon antics. (1/4 *)
CM Punk vs. Elijah Burke- Good match, but not much crowd involvement. In fact, there was a semi-mass exodus to the bathroom during this one. I enjoyed the hell out of it, though, and I'd say it was the match of the night on a night of few better-than-average bouts. (**3/4)
Orton vs. HBK- Good reactions for both guys, but strong heat for the crap finish. HBK's injury comes at a very unfortunate time. With Edge and HBK out...is there a reason to watch Raw? Consider me someone who won't be putting forth much effort to watch wrestling on Mondays for awhile. (1/2*)
Hardys vs. Cade/Murdoch- decent bout, but very formulaic and uninteresting from a storyline perspective. The crowd liked the Hardys, but not enough to stay consistently into the match. (**)
Edge vs. Batista- I had a good time messing with the young kids all around me who wanted Bats to win. I was very pro-Edge and let out a nice, hearty laugh when he retained. All the kids swore to me that Batista would win. It was fun interacting with the youngsters, but the match was bland as hell.
Batista dominating a match is a recipe for a crap-tastic match. Edge did what he could, but Batista's string of good matches came to an end last night. (*3/4)
MVP vs. Benoit- solid action, but disappointing. Given the length of two of the other bouts, they could've had this be a 20-25 minute MOTN/show-stealer...but I digress. (**1/2)
Cena vs. Khali- I cheered against Cena just to mess with the crowd, but I sat quietly whenever Khali was on offense. The crowd was very into this match and Cena got the loudest reaction of anyone...easily. It was hard to talk during the match because the crowd was constantly buzzing. Cena winning via Tap Out was nice to see. (*3/4)
Backstage skits and interviews were neither here nor there. (**)
Judgment Day 2007's Final Score- * 3/4 (CMV1 note- that was one of the worst PPVs in a long time. I had a great time just being there live, but it was a real stinker of a PPV. It's a good thing I wasn't wearing my critic hat when I was watching)
Alright, folks...It was always a pleasure to write reviews for you. I apprecriate the feedback (positive and negative) that many of you sent over the last few years. CMV1's final note- take care and enjoy wrestling...
LordsOfPain.net reader Kyle H. passed along the following off air report from last night's WWE Judgment Day pay-per-view:
Dark Match Kane def. William Regal w/ Dave Taylor via chokeslam.
The crowd was definitely behind Flair and he got a really good pop when he locked in the figure 4.
Lashley was way over. He's gonna be real big for a long time. He had a new entrance video that I haven't noticed before it was pretty cool. Huge pop for the title change, only to be outdone by Cena later. Everyone was pissed when Vince took the belt back, obviously.
It didn't seem like the crowd was into the Punk/Burke match too much as the concessions were absolutely packed during that match. Also, they didn't have the action on the monitors at the concessions which I thought they should have...I had to keep sending my friends over to see what was happening while I held the place in line.
It was the usual stuff with the Hardys. They got good pops for all their signature moves. The dude that threw trash at Cade and Murdoch was immediately escorted out by security.
No boos for Orton in his hometown, he actually got a pretty decent pop when his music hit. HBK was doing his usual over-selling but still got huge reactions fromt the crowd.
Big pop for Batista, his pyro was freakin loud. I loved it. Mixed reactions for Edge. His new pyro is pretty loud too. Not very many boos when Edge rolled up Batista for the win.
MVP's tunnel was brought out and inflated in about 10 seconds. They deflate and take it off the stage while he's entering the ring and that took about 5 seconds...pretty good work. Benoit got a good pop coming out. This was a good match but I think they could've made it better by letting Benoit win the 2nd fall and extending the match. The ending looked a little botched from where we were...What do I gotta do to get a ballin' elbow drop? He did do his ballin' motion after the match twice and got some good reactions from the crowd.
Cena came out to his usual mixture of boos and cheers. Khali actually got a pretty good reaction from the crowd it seemed...not too many boos, and a lot of cheers from the Cena-haters (myself included). By far the biggest pop of the night when Khali tapped.
Biggest pops: 1. Cena makes Khali tap 2. Lashley wins title 3. HBK 4. Batista 5. Orton/Benoit/Hardys
Most Heat: 1. Vince 2. Cena 3. Edge 4. Umaga 5. MVP
