    Raw Results 5/14/2007

Tonight the USA network presents WWE Monday Night Raw, live from The Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia!

As soon as Raw is on the air, John Cena’s music hits. He walks to the ring with a very determined look on his face, missing the championship belt that was stolen by The Great Khali last week. Cena grabs the mic, saying that he was just announced as the champ, but he doesn’t have the title. He says that the title is in the hands of Khali. Cena says that Khali came down last week, took the belt, and left. He says that Khali left, and he couldn’t stop him. Cena says he felt humiliated and helpless. He says humiliation is nothing new to him, since fans always chant that he sucks, but he has respect for the business and the belt, and Khali just took it. He says he has faced giants, super-heavyweights, and gone face to face with the baddest of the bad, but Khali is almost inhuman. He says that his best shots don’t even faze Khali, that Khali has never been pinned or tapped out, and that he has barely been knocked down; Khali can do whatever he wants whenever he wants. Cena says that his closest friends told him Judgment Day is a bad idea, and will be his execution. Cena says they’re wrong, and that in the right frame of mind he is a one man wrecking crew and Khali has signed up for the fight of his life, but he’s not talking about Judgment Day. Cena says that Khali has something of his, and he wants it back right now. On the Titantron, Khali is shown with some guy, saying he’s Khali’s translator. He says that Khali has something to say, and he begins the translation. Khali says that no one has done what Khali has done. They roll of promo video showing highlights of Khali’s actions over the last few weeks. As Khali starts talking, a “What!?” chant breaks out. Khali says that if Cena wants some, he can come get some. Cena jumps out of the ring and walks up the ramp and into the back. Khali is in the back with his translator when Cena attacks from behind. Khali pushes Cena away, and hits him with a trashcan. Khali then throws Cena into a metal structure, before double chokeslamming him onto a zambonie machine. Khali takes Cena and pushes him against the wall, and starts choking him out. Khali leaves, and Cena is on the ground gasping for air as we cut to a commercial.

We come back to a quick recap of what just happened. The Hardys’ music hits, and both Matt and Jeff come out to yet another massive pop from the crowd. Cade and Murdoch’s music hits and both come out. JR and King say how impressed they are with the attitudes of the Redneck Wrecking Crew as of late.

    Jeff Hardy vs. Trevor Murdoch

The match starts with a collar-elbow tie-up, with Murdoch forcing Hardy into the corner, and making a clean break. Hardy gets the upper-hand with a headlock take down. Following that, a series of reversals take place that showed great athleticism by both men. Murdoch gets the upper hand with an elbow, and goes for the pin. Hardy kicks out, and takes control sending Murdoch to the outside. Hardy gets Murdoch back inside and gets him into the corner. He mounts and starts to punch. Murdoch manages to drop Hardy to the ground. Lateral press by Murdoch, followed by a two count. After a chinlock by Murdoch, Hardy hits a jawbreaker. Hardy begins to make the comeback. Hardy goes for the swanton, but Murdoch gets his knees up and goes for the pin. Hardy kicks out after two. Murdoch tries to get Hardy to his feet, but a roll-up by Jeff gets the three count. Murdoch extends his hand to help Hardy up, who accepts. Cade and Murdoch leave, and the Hardys remain in the ring with a confused look on their faces.

    Your Winner: Jeff Hardy

    Match Rating: B
(A good match by both competitors. Hardy was good as usual, and Murdoch proved that appearances aren’t everything by keeping up with Hardy.)

King and JR recap Edge’s win of the World Heavyweight Championship on Smackdown. They announce Edge’s final Raw appearance tonight. They also announce Coach vs. Lashley for tonight.

Backstage, we see Coach with Shane, Vince, and Umaga. Shane says that Coach has nothing to worry about in his match with Lashley for tonight. Shane assures Coach that they’ll be in his corner. Coach says he has to leave and get ready. Umaga leaves as well. Vince makes a comment about his matching suit and doo-rag, saying it’s sweet. He says he’s down, and Shane says that he’ll see Vince out at the ring.

Back at ringside, Santino Marella’s music hits, and the IC champ makes his way down to the ring. As JR and King talk about Marella’s relocation to New Jersey, Chris Masters’ music hits, and the Masterpiece comes out for our next match.

    Santino Marella vs. Chris Masters

The match starts with Marella trying to go for a take down, but Masters overpowers him. Masters goes for the Masterlock early, but Marella gets away before it’s locked in. Marella gets the upper-hand with a backdrop, and an armlock, but Masters turns it around with a backbreaker. Masters is in control as Marella attempts to fight back but runs into a massive clothesline by Masters. Masters again goes for the Masterlock, but Marella backs him into the corner. Marella with a few good shots, before Masters pulls off a spine buster. Masters again goes for the Master lock, but Marella slides out before it’s locked in, and gets the pin with a sunset flip.

Chris Masters attacks Santino Marella from behind, and locks in the Master Lock. Marella goes limp, and Masters throws him to the ground. Marella is out on the mat as Masters walks to the back.

    Your Winner: Santino Marella

    Match Rating: B
(Marella is playing the underdog card well, and this small feud with Masters is doing good things for both Marella and Masters.)

Melina’s music hits and she walks to the announcing table. She does the splits on the table, much to King’s delight, and then takes a seat next to King grabbing a headset. Candice Michelle’s music hits, and she comes out. Victoria is already in the ring.

    Candice Michelle vs. Victoria

Candice grabs Victoria’s hair and throws her to the ground. She goes for the pin, but only gets a two count. Victoria clotheslines Candice, and takes control. Victoria locks in an arm and leg lock, but Candice fights out. She gets Victoria to the ground, and hits an standing elbow. Candice covers, but gets a two count. Candice then hits a spinning head scissors. Victoria gets the upper hand by kicking Candice from behind. Victoria gets Candice up on her shoulders, but Candice fights out, and hit’s a spinning heel kick. Candice with a cover, 1-2-3!

    Your Winner: Candice Michelle

    Match Rating: B-
(Candice is getting a push by the looks of things, and this match helps to move it along. Whether or not she’ll get the belt from Melina is still to be seen, but both Melina and Candice have come leaps and bounds in skill since they started.)

Edge’s music hits, and the Rated R Superstar comes out on Raw for what could be the last time. He holds up the World Heavyweight Championship belt at the entrance as fireworks explode around him. He goes to the ring, and grabs a mic for his farewell address. He starts by explaining how he’s had the greatest week of any superstar in history. The Titantron shows a video of his victory over Kennedy for the MITB briefcase last week. Edge says he could have cashed in on anyone. He says he’s already cashed it in on Cena, and now he’s done it to the greatest champion in history, the Undertaker. A video shows his victory over the Undertaker on Smackdown. Edge says he thought about leaving with a lasting impression, a last Edge match. He says he doesn’t think that the people deserve it. He then says that he has to defend the title at Judgment Day against Batista. He says he’s not worried about it, since he did on Smackdown what Batista couldn’t do in three months…beat the Undertaker. Edge says that rather than have a match, he’ll leave as your World Heavyweight Champion. Edge’s music hits, but before he leaves the ring, Shawn Michael’s music interrupts. HBK comes out and says that rather than leaving a lasting impression, why doesn’t Edge do everyone a favor and just leave. Edge says that if HBK wants a match, he can have one tonight. Edge says that he’ll enjoy beating HBK the same way he beat the Undertaker.

In the back, Todd Grisham introduces Bobby Lashley for an interview. Lashley begins talking, but is interrupted by Shane McMahon. Shane reminds him that he can’t touch Vince, Umaga, or Shane. After taunting Lashley, Shane wishes him luck in his match against Coach, and reminds him that Vince, Umaga and himself will be at ringside.

Vince McMahon’s music hits and Umaga, Vince, and Shane walk out to the ring. Jonathan Coachman’s music hits, and he comes out. Vince starts motioning for Lashley to come out as Lashley’s music hits. As Lashley walks to the ring, the four men in the ring taunt him. Vince, Shane, and Umaga leave the ring so the match can start.

    Bobby Lashley vs. Jonathan Coachman

Coach slaps Lashley, but Lashley powers him to the second rope, and starts clubbing him. Lashley connects with a clothesline. Lashley then hits Coach with a sick backbreaker, before hitting the Spear for the win.

    Your Winner: Bobby Lashley

As the bell signals the victory, Umaga and Shane attack Lashley, but Lashley fights back, sending Shane out of the ring. Umaga manages to beat Lashley into the corner, but Lashley dodges the running butt smash. Lashley then hits a spear on Umaga. Lashley then turns to Vince, and chases him around the outside. As Lashley rounds the corner, Shane hits a shouder tackle. Vince escapes to the back, as Lashley now chases Shane. The chase goes into the back, where Shane leaps to the top of a waiting limo. As the limo drives off, Lashley gets hit with the ECW World Title by Vince. Vince stands over the fallen Lashley for a moment, then walks away.

    Match Rating: C
(A squash match, but a squash match with a purpose. The Lashley-McMahon storyline heated up, and now that Lashley has laid his hands on both Umaga and Shane, it will be interesting to see how they work around that to give Lashley his ECW title shot at Judgment Day.)

After a commercial break, Carlito’s music hits and makes his way to the ring. Val Venis is already in the ring, ready for action.

    Carlito vs. Val Venis

The match starts with a collar-elbow tie up, with Val getting the upper hand with a takedown. After several knees to the mid-section, Val hits a Russian leg sweep. Val covers, but Carlito kicks out at two. Carlito hits a clothesline, and then throws Val to the outside. After smashing Val's back into the apron a few times, Carlito rolls him into the ring. A “We Want Flair” chant breaks out. Val Venis comes back, but Carlito quickly gets in control again, hitting a missile dropkick to Val’s back. Val Venus hits a clothesline in response. Venis irish-whips Carlito into the corner, but Carlito flips up and over and shoots a clothesline at Val. Venis then blocks it, puts Carlito on the ground with a takedown, and sets up for the money-shot. Before he launches, Carlito gets up, and Venis jumps down to meet him. After a series of reversals, Carlito gets behind Venis and nails the backcracker for the win. As soon as the bell rings, Flair’s music hits, and the Nature Boy rushes to the ring. Carlito makes a quick exit, as Flair does his thing in the ring while the music plays.

    Your Winner: Carlito

    Match Rating: B+
(Actually a pretty good match. Venis showed his ring veteran skills. Basically the only purpose was for Flair to make an appearance, but these two competitors worked very well together in the ring. Perhaps Venis deserves a well-overdue push? Not likely, but still one great match between two relatively underrated performers.)

Randy is in the back talking to HBK, telling Shawn he thinks he can beat him. HBK says that after beating Edge, he’s free Sunday. Looks like we have another match for Judgment Day.

After a quick commercial break, we’re shown a replay of Khali decimating Cena in the back, as JR and King put over the great strength and size of the Great Khali.

Edge’s music hits and the World Heavyweight Champion comes out for his final Raw match. As Edge stands in the ring the crowd starts to chant “HBK”. Shawn Michaels’ music hits, and the Heartbreak Kid makes his way to the ring.

    Edge vs. Shawn Michaels

The crowd chants “HBK” as the two men size each other up. HBK gets a headlock after a tie up, but Edge throws him into the ropes. HBK hits Edge with a shoulder block, and locks in a headlock on the ground. Edge raises to his feet and gets HBK into the corner. Michaels makes a clean break, and goes back to Edge, but Edge cheap shots HBK to get the upper hand. After several hard shots by Edge, HBK hits a swinging neck breaker. HBK then smashes Edge into the turnbuckle. Edge kicks HBK as he goes for a back body drop. Edge with a shoulder block, but HBK side steps again, sending Edge to the outside. HBK with an awesome Lou Thesz press from the ring apron as we go to commercial.

After the commercial break HBK is down on the mat and Edge is in control. Edge with a head butt, and a massive stomp to the back of the Shawn's head. Edge starts choking HBK on the middle rope. As Edge gets HBK into the corner, HBK starts to fight back, but Edge takes control again with a right hand to the head. Edge then locks on a neck vice, but HBK fights to his feet. As Michaels tries to make a comeback, Edge hits a kick to the head. Edge covers, but HBK kicks out at two. Edge gets on the outside as HBK is on the ring apron and starts to hammer away. HBK rolls back into the ring, and Edge follows. Edge hits a neck breaker, showing shades of Rick Rude. Edge covers, but only gets a two count. Edge locks in a reverse chin lock. Michaels fights his way out of the hold, and forces Edge into the corner. Edge hits a right hand that floors HBK. Edge climbs the top rope, but HBK crotches him. HBK climbs the 2nd rope, but Edge head butts him. HBK is down, and Edge stands on the top rope. HBK stands, and Edge jumps, but HBK dodges a flying cross body. Both men are down, and slowly get to their feet. HBK hits the flying forearm, and nips up. Body slam by HBK. Michaels climbs the top rope and hits the elbow drop. He tunes up the band, and hits Sweet Chin Music and falls on top of Edge 1-2-3!

    Your Winner: Shawn Michaels

    Match Rating: B+
(Edge puts over HBK, surprisingly, and it's sad to see Edge leave the "A" brand. However, Smackdown needs Edge right now, so I look forward to his work there. This is a huge win for HBK, as he stays credible; for once, Shawn didn't put over the younger talent. A great match, although the ending seemed a little abrupt.

Randy Orton runs into the ring and begins brawling with HBK. Orton kicks HBK in the groin and drives his foot into Michaels’ head. HBK is out on the mat and Orton stands over him as Raw goes off the air.

    Quick Results:

Jeff Hardy def. Trevor Murdoch via pin
Santino Marella def. Chris Masters via pin
Candice Michelle def. Victoria via pin
    Lashley def. Coach via pin
Carlito def. Val Venis via pin
Shawn Michaels def. Edge via pin

    Final Grade: B-

A rather uneventful Raw, especially to build up to Judgment Day. The Orton/HBK feud seemed more or less forced, but it should be a good match come Sunday. Overall, many of the segments seemed to repeat last week's Raw, but that's not always a bad thing when the right spin is put on, distinguishing the events from the previous ones. Overall, a decent show; it was time well spent.
