WWE House Show Results from Roanoke, VA 5/06/07

WWE RAW returns to Roanoke Civic Center after a 16 month hiatus!!
I took the 45 minute trip from Blacksburg , Va to Roanoke for the Sunday afternoon show.
he house was about 3/4 full, I'd say about 6-7,000 people. Pretty energetic crowd!! I had 2nd row seats on the railing, took lot's of nice pics. My buddy and I had our DX shirts on and I brought a sign that said "PROTO-HYPE" to annoy Cena!!
The show was opened with a 32 second moment of silence for the lost lives from the Virginia Tech tragedy on 4/16/07...

9 MATCHES!!
1.Carlito vs Shelton Benjamin
no TORRIE, bummer :( ....
A nice beginning match to warm the crowd. Carlito came out to some cheers and boos(especially since this is old NWA Flair country), Benjamin was booed mostly, but a little cheering here and there. It was back and forth continuously with Benjamin taking a slight advantage about halfway thru. Lots of high flying moves throughout. These two work well together. Carlito wins with the APPLE-SPIT in Benjamin's grill while the referee was distracted. I'd give it a 7/10 to start...

2. Val Venis vs Kingston
Venis came out with the towel, going up to women like he was gonna hug them and backing off at the last minute. He received a mixed reaction from the crowd . (Note: last time he was here, he was "Chief Morley" and the time before that he was in the "Right to Censor" faction). Kingston is the jobber who has small dreads and were Jamaican colored tights with the word "Kingston" on the back. He is not big, yet is very athletic. Venis starts the match off by arguing with a fan in the second row and threatening to have security throw him out, good comedy!! Kingston was totally supported by the crowd and he ate it up. Kingston used his ability to keep Venis out of sync and eventually won with a rollup!!

3. Eugene vs Daniel Roddimer
Eugene came out to a nice reactin. He was wearing his usually jacket, but had an orange Virginia Tech tshirt on under it to support the university after the tragic events of 4.16.07 (Note: Lot's of Tech hats and shirts being worn by the crowd, I went to Tech myself). Roddimer is a big guy, kind of a cross between Orton and Masters. After a comedic beginning where Eugene tries to have a strength contest with Roddimer, the big jobber starts to pound Eugene and dominate him during the match. He yanked off Eugene's Tech shirt, which brought him many BOOS!! Fan cheering and Eugene chants leads to Eugene HULKING up and turning the tables. A Rock Bottom highlighted his nostalgia swing,yet Roddimer;s strength and overwhelming power lead him to pin Eugene...The announcer handed Eugene's Tech shirt to a kid at ringside..

4. THE GREAT KHALI vs Hacksaw Jim Duggan
Ok, this is the go to the bathroom or go get merchandise match. Duggan's old self comes out with American flag and a 2x4. He is so old and wrinkly, he must be hurting for a paycheck...Khali came out in all his ugliness. At one point he was right beside me. He is huge, yet I don't quite think he is 7' as he is described, more like 6'10"....This match maybe lasted 3 minutes, my buddy left at the start and got back in tie for the final 3 count. Duggan never had a chance, TOTAL SQUASH!!

5. Cryme Tyme vs Kenny Dyskstra and Johnny Nitro
No Melina, she had a match later....
Cryme Tyme was WAY OVER with the crowd!! There were a surprise guest, having not been on any of the subject cards highlighting this show. It was also their first time in Roanoke. Shad gave a little kid in the first row his Africa continent necklace after blinging it to the crowd. Nice touch!! Nitro and Dykstra booed hard. Nitro/Dykstra were the aggressors, controlling JTJ most of the match until the HOT TAG to Shad who dominated both Johnny and Kenny until the end where Cryme Tyme seals the deal with a double team slam/suplex...Nice match, good to see CT after being left of TV the last month or so....Afterwards they brought a kid in the ring and taught him some dance moves, very entertaining, pleasing the crowd...

6. Santino Morella(C) vs Chris Masters...
INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH
Chris Master's came out first grabbing the mic and telling everyone he was better than they were and that he should be the NEW IC champ and thus declared himself such. That was when Morella came out, wearing a white Virginia Tech T-shirt and getting good pops from the crowd. Morella was dressed in gear that it looked like he got at a Kurt Angle yard sale, singlet and short freestyle boots. Morella and Masters locked up and the match had lots of technical moves , but included slams and Morellas extended use of his legs, kicking Masters frequently. Masters never attempted to apply the MASTER LOCK and Morella eventually retained his title by pinning Masters with a rollup....
Ok match, since Morella is new and Masters is Masters...

INTERMISSION...
This was my time to go to the bathroom, but I wished I hadn't . While I was walking in the concession/merchandise are, I heard MARIA being introduced to come out and launch T SHIRTS into the crowd!! I was like, "I have to get back down there!!"..Yet to my dismay, I see Maria trotting down the aisle and walking up to my buddy and giving him a big hug!! Where I would have been standing, no less, that should have been ME!! Oh well, he was happy to say the least...She shot about 10 shirts in the crowd and was about to take off her shirt when she was interrupted by Melina, which leads us to the next match.....
7. Melina(C) vs Mickie James
WOMEN'S WORLD TITLE MATCH
Melina came in the ring in her fine fashion, without photographers and carpet. She walked by me and I said "You GO, girl!" which she gave me a quick wink!! Sweet....She entered the ring and told Maria to leave and gave her a good slap in the face as a topper. That's when Mickie was introduced.to a great POP!! (She last appeared in Roanoke in one of her first showings as Trish's mystery fan/admirer in 1/06)...She came out and gave me a high five and hit the ring after a few poses. Both women are in great shape, as well as is Maria. The match was very scientific, with many holds and flips and rollups, the usual skilled women match. Mickie and Melina have learned a lot the past year on their techniques. It was longer than a normal ladies match, it was quite exciting. Melina pinned Mickie by use of holding the ropes, typical Heel fashion..Maria then came is and the good M's chased the bad M's out of the ring, yet she kept her title!! The two hugged and Maria eventually took off her shirt with a little help from Mickie, which excited the crowd!!
7/10, due to beauty and skill!!

8. HARDY BOYZ(C) vs Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch
WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
After Murdoch and Cade entered the ring to a nice HEEL HEAT, a HUGE, HUGE POP greeted the Hardy Boyz as the WorldChamps entered the arena. The BOYZ have always had a huge following in this area and nothing was different tonight with many fans where Team XTREME gear!! The crowd knew they would get there moneys worth tonight!! A great match with the challengers mocking the crowd and the Hardy's getting all the love. Jeff's crazy self was no different tonight as he performed many of his patented high flying moves. (Note: this was Jeff's return to the Roanoke area since his famed NO-SHOW in 4/03 which led to his release). This match wasn't previously announce so it was definitely a treat for all of us there!! The match was long and Jeff was prey to the cowboytruckers vicious atacks until he finally fought back and tagged Matt who took over used the comeback very effective which culminated in a TWIST OF FATE that lead to a SWANTON BOMB by Jeff which put away the HEELS!! A nice match overall, and afterwards Jeff walked by me and as I slapped his hand, I said "Welcome back , Jeff!!" He said "Thanks, Man.."

MAIN EVENT:
9. John Cena(C) vs Umaga w/ Alejandro Armando Estrada
WORLD TITLE MATCH
Umaga came out to his jungle music( this is so worn out, lose a match already, you are not that good JAMAL) as I repeatedly yelled at him as he went by. AAE was in a neckbrace and cane and sat at ringside. CENA came out and I thought the roof was gonna cave in!! It was so loud!! Of course I wasn;t adding to this, I think Cena has little talent and weak ring skills other than strength, which I don't deny. I held the "PROTO-HYPE" sign high(Note: for those who are unfamiliar, John Cena character in OVW was "THE PROTOTYPE")which I tried my best to grill him with. He tried to ignore me, but I know he looked at it. HE HE HE!! Anyway, a match which involved slams and submission holds and UMAGA JAMAL controlling for the most part, Cena came back and gave the 5 knuckle shuffle. The STFU was applied but as JAMAL was about to tap, AAE came in and blasted Cena with the cane, which led to a DISQUALIFICATION. Cena cornered AAE in the ropes and UMAGA was about to jump Cena, when he moved out of the way, UMAGA slamming AAE. While UMAGA seemed confused Cena sized him up for an FU and slammed him hard into the mat. As the heels left the ring, Cena ate up the crowd cheers and talked a bit until KHALI"s music hit and he came out and stared down Cena from the end of the aisle, took a few step forward and then turned and walked away...

Cena went on a long promo about KHALI and how he took out the 3 contenders for his belt. (Now, I know why Orton, Michaels and Edge weren't there, keeping with the script. At a house show, even..)...And that they would meet at the PayPerView....A battle of NO SKILLS, yea!! What a waste...I look forward to HHH returning!!
...The match was originally Cena/Michaels vs Orton.Umaga and then Cena vs Edge vs Orton...so the final result is the worst combo. Having belts change since Wrestlemania, this is what we had left..
A great night!! GREAT SHOW!! After having 2nd row after the last few shows in the concourse, I have to be down there again for now on!!
The announcer thanked the crowd and said the WWE would be back really soon!!
