Thanks to Eric Lancy and PWInsider.com for the following recap of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's interview with Mark Madden on ESPN Radio 1250 from Pittsburgh, PA:
- Madden welcomes Steve Austin to the show. Madden begins by asking how much different acting is from taking bumps. Austin says while it certainly was physical in Australia, it beats “the hell” out of taking bumps. Austin talks about finding a real passion in acting.
Austin says what he is most proud of is that all of his fighting sequences are “100 percent me”. He said he left the big stunts to the professionals, but everything else is him.
Austin then goes over the plot of the film. He talks about the character being on death row and being pitted against other death row inmates on an Internet Reality Show. He says it is kill or your dead, and if this were a shoot, he wants to live. So everyone would have to look out.
Madden asks Austin about working with Vinnie Jones. Madden is a noted soccer fan and Jones played soccer professionally at one point. Madden jokes that Jones was a dirty player. Austin praised Jones work and would have loved him in the ring.
Austin answers a question about returning to the ring. Austin says while never say never, he wants to be able to fish in 10 years, and make more movies. He just doesn’t see any reason to get back in the ring. He notes he is not a big spender, he has paid his taxes, and he lives well. He doesn’t feel he has to prove anything else in the ring.
Madden then asks what it was like to be back for WM 23. Austin said he was concerned at one point during the “Battle of the Billionaires” because it seemed to be dead quiet at Ford Field during the match. He said he’s used to carrying a show on his back, and he didn’t want to be a part of a match that was “stinking the joint out”.
Austin goes into the schedule of filming “The Condemned”. He says it was very strenuous and he took it very seriously. He went to Australia early to prepare for what was in store for him.
Austin talks about wanting people to like the movie because he is very proud of it. He’s not concerned with critic approval, because a lot of critics don’t like Adam Sandler movies, but they make a ton of money.
The interview is wrapped up with Madden thanking Austin for his time, and Madden speaks briefly of Austin being the highest drawing card in Sports Entertainment history.
