We open with a video package showing CM Punk joining The New Breed last week.
The New Breed is in the ring, Elijah says that over the past few weeks, a man has had to make a decision. A decision that would not only effect his future, but ECW as well. Last week, that man made his decision, and the future looks brighter than ever for ECW. The New Breed is proud to present their newest member, CM Punk.
CM Punk comes to the ring, Matt Striker sits on the second rope to let him in. Punk then shakes the hand of each member of The New Breed. Punk plays to the fans with mixed reactions. Elijah says it's obvious why he chose to join The New Breed. Everyone knows, but Elijah wants to know in Punk's words, why he joined.
Punk thanks Elijah for the forum, but at the moment he wants to keep the reasons to himself. It's true, it's very obvious why he chose. The only thing that matters now, is that he's officially a member of The New Breed.
Elijah back on the mic, not only is he the newest member, but he's the modest of all ECW superstars. Cue One Of A Kind! Rob Van Dam makes his way out and stands at the top of the entrance ramp. Elijah gets interrupted by RVD, RVD says he's here to talk to Punk. Last week, RVD personally made Punk an offer to join The Originals. You know, those guys that literally broke their backs to build ECW. Look at him, he thinks he's better off with The New Breed. Hell of a choice, he hopes he thought this threw because The Originals are going to make him live to regret it.
Elijah says nobody is regretting anything except the washed up ECW Originals. Punk joined The New Breed because Elijah took his friend Sabu and made him feel the worst pain of his life, and the fact that he lost to The Alpha Male. RVD says yes he has some personal feelings, but he has a way to release that negative energy. RVD v. Elijah tonight.
Punk takes the mic and says that if he wants to challenge a member of The New Breed, he should challenge him. RVD says that's even better. Elijah says he wasn't hesitating, that tonight he's going to prove to the people and The New Breed what leadership is all about. He accepts RVD's challenge.
(Eval- Very nice opening segment. The fact Punk is hesitating on giving a reason I'm still leaning towards this being a ploy of Punk and The Originals. Rating- **)
Commercial.
Lil' Guido v. Snitsky
Go behind waist lock by Guido, Snitsky reverses by tossing Guido into the corner by his arm. Snitsky grabs Guido in a version of a bear hug and places him on the top rope. Guido tries to get him in a side head lock, Snitsky shoots him off into the ropes, shoulder block. Snitsky picks Guido up by the throat and tosses him into the corner. Guido back, multiple shots and kicks to Snitsky, chopping him down. Drop-kick to the back of Snitsky's head. Guido up top, drop-kick to the front of Snitsky, one count.
Snitsky with a head but to Guido, knocking him down. Guido up, version of a back breaker, but his stomach hit Snitsky's leg, not his back. Multiple boots placed to Guido before he's up and hung out to dry on the top rope. Down, clothesline by Snitsky. Big boot by Snitsky, 1-2-3.
(Eval- I'm glad they put Guido on the show, but it was only because they're in Italy. They're billing him as 'Nunzio', which upsets me highly. =( Rating- *)
Backstage Elijah asks Punk if he thinks he's scared of RVD. Punk says in all honesty, yeah he thinks so. If Punk wants to be a member of The New Breed he has to fall in line. Punk nods and walks off.
(Eval- Oh my God, please let Punk turn on them tonight. He can't fall in line, that throws his whole gimmick out the window. Rating- *)
Commercial.
Kevin Thorn and Alpha Male w/ Ariel v. Sandman and Tommy Dreamer
Dreamer and Sandman make their way through the crowd, both with beers in hand. Dreamer and Marcus Cor Von start it off with a lock up, knee to Dreamer met by a couple fists and another knee. Dreamer off the ropes, Cor Von attempts a hip toss, Dreamer with a drop toe hold. In the corner, tag to Sandman, double elbows to Cor Von, drop elbows meet the chest of Cor Von. Sandman and Alpha Male up top, Cor Von shoves him off, clothesline.
Cor Von with Sandman in a head lock, tag to Thorn. Boots to Sandman, vertical suplex, two count by Thorn. Rest hold has Thorn putting Sandman in a chinlock. Standing up, Sandman fights back only to be beat back down to the mat. Tag to Cor Von, boot to Sandman's ribs. Sandman choked on the middle rope, broken up by the three count. More fists by Cor Von. Boots to Sandman's midsection. Butterfly suplex, two count by Cor Von. Tag to Thorn. Another chinlock on Sandman, tag back to Cor Von. Sandman fights back, Cor Von stops them with fists of his own.
Sandman shot into the corner, clothesline and more fists by Cor Von. Opposite corner, attempt at a splash as Sandman moves out of the way. Tag to Dreamer and Thorn. Thorn misses a clothesline, two clotheslines by Dreamer. Swinging neckbreaker, drop-kick sends Alpha Male to the outside. Bulldog on Thorn. Dreamer looking for the DDT, Thorn pushes him back into the corner. Dreamer attempts a sunset flip, Thorn catches himself on the rope, but Dreamer's able to pull him all the way down and get the 1-2-3!
(Eval- Wooo! Good little exchange from these four men, I'd like to see these continue but with extreme rules, the way ECW intended. Rating- **)
Post-match Dreamer and Sandman drink some beer at the top of the ramp and Dreamer spreads out an Italian flag on a car that's sitting at the entrance. He kneels and begins praising it. We shoot to the back which shows Punk and Striker watching the show. Punk says he doesn't need to fall in line, they need independent thinkers in The New Breed. People with moral fiber, to think about it. Striker says he likes that as Punk walks away.
(Eval- DUDE! This is so a ploy, Punk is trying to break them up and place seeds in their heads. I know it, please let me be right. Rating- n/a)
Commercial.
Bobby Lashley makes his way to the ring. Bobby cannot wait until Backlash. On his way to Backlash he stopped into RAW last night. A video package is shown of Bobby helping the local Santino Marella win the IC Championship. Bobby is proud to introduce the new IC Champion. Santino Marella makes his way to the ring and shakes Bobby's hand. Excellent crowd reaction for this guy. (Interesting note. Styles stated that Santino was born in Italy but has been training to become a professional wrestler in Canada. He was "back in Italy visiting family" when he decided to go to RAW last night.)
Bobby congratulates Santino. He thanks Bobby and thanks everyone in attendance. He spoke a few words in Italian. From what I could gather, by facial expressions and the like, it was something to the affect of he's trained very hard, and he's very thankful to be the new IC Champion.
(Eval- I don't see why this was necessary other than to fill time, however. I like the looks of this guy and I'm damn glad they took the belt off of Umaga. However, it has nothing to do with ECW. Rating- 1/2 *)
Commercial.
Backstage Punk is with Alpha Male, Thorn and Ariel. He says it's about passion and desire, they don't let what just happened be the end of it. If they get knocked down they get right back up. Punk walks off and sees Elijah. He asks what's up. Elijah says he doesn't have a problem with him being in The New Breed. However, he has to learn to fall in line. He doesn't mind him giving them advice... Punk interrupts him and says he doesn't need to go there. He knows it's about his match with RVD tonight, and he has his back.
(Eval- Grr, they're teasing me now. Rating- 1/2 *)
Joey and Tazz go over the card for Backlash.
Rob Van Dam makes his entrance.
Commercial.
Elijah Burke makes his entrance.
Rob Van Dam v. Elijah Burke
RVD plays to the crowd and Burke taunts the crowd before shoving his finger into RVD's chest, then slaps the taste out of his mouth. RVD with a standing spin kick. Elijah rakes the eyes of RVD and sends him shoulder first into the steel ring post. Burke looks like he's going to set up an abdominal stretch through the ropes but delivers shots to his ribs instead. In the middle of the ring, multiple shots to RVD's arm before a shoulder block sends him down.
RVD with shots of his own to Elijah's stomach, quick shot to RVD's shoulder. RVD into the ropes, back roll over Burke, spinning heel kick to the mush of Burke. Reversal sends RVD into the corner, elbow to Burke. Springboard cross body for a two count on Burke. RVD sends Burke back into the corner and works his stomach with a couple shoulder block. Burke moves quickly and allows RVD to slam into the post. Two count by Burke while using his feet on the ropes.
Back to work on RVD's shoulder, over-the-top wristlock, almost like a modified kimura. Standing, RVD with fists to Elijah, off the ropes, boot to RVD's stomach. Flying arm bar by Burke, two count. Back to work on the shoulder, pulling RVD's arm across his own neck, stretching it out. Standing back up, shots to Elijah's head before a boot. Hammer lock position before a scoop slam. RVD's hand on the bottom rope, pressure applied to the wrist by Burke. Knee dropped down to the shoulder of RVD.
RVD fights back with a few shots. RVD into the steel post, belly to back suplex. Two count.
(Unfortunately my DVR cut off at this point. It seems that ECW got started late. Since it's not a 'live' event, I didn't have the option of making it record past the event. I do apologize for this and I will be searching other websites to find the final minutes of this show, and post it accordingly.)
Thanks to Andrew Poole for submitting the final moments of tonight's ECW.
Burke was in control for most of the match, focusing on RVD's arm. RVD had a
couple of good moves, moving Burke into the corner... RVD goes for the kick
as Burke ducks and hits the ref. RVD then uses the Windmill kick, knocking
Burke down. RVD gets ready to go for the 5-star frog splash, but realizes
the ref is down, and he wont win the match even if he hits his move. He
tries to help the ref but Burke attacks him but RVD spin kicks him, and they
are both knocked down. Suddenly Punk is down at ringside, talking to Burke..
and Burke tells him to get a chair.. Punk gets the timekeepers chair and
slides it into the ring to Burke, but 'gives it alil too much power' and the
chair slides past Burke to RVD.. RVD then takes the chair as Burke gets up
and turns and has the chair from RVD slammed into his head. RVD kicks the
chair out of the ring, and then covers Burke (the ref just coming to) for
the 3 count. RVD leaves the ring as Punk enters trying to explain to Burke
it was a mistake and apologizes as ECW goes off the air.
Final Analysis- From what I saw, this was a much better show than normal. After reading what happened, it seems like the match went pretty well. I still say Punk is a ploy! Overall, aside from the Snitsky match, it was pretty entertaining. 5.5/10. Goodnight folks. Again, sorry.
