- Thanks to Carpenter Michael L 1stLt SDTW/3STS for sending in the following show report:
This was actually a great show when it comes to attendance. Usually WWE comes to the Tinguely Coliseum, but now they came to the Pit (home of the New Mexico Lobos) and it was pretty much a sold out event.
1) Cryme Tyme defeated Highlanders and Lance Cade/Trevor Murdoch in a 3-way
Overall, somewhat of a boring match. Cryme Tyme received the biggest ovation here and the smaller Cryme Tyme member (forgot name) can really dance. Cryme Tyme won with their finisher on Cade. Murdoch actually did a pretty good job to make the fans boo him. Murdoch and Cade teased a split after the match but ended up hugging afterwards. From where I was at, Murdoch looked like Larry the Cable Guy
2) Chris Masters defeated Kofi Houston (?)
Apparently this Kofi character (I think the ring announcer said Kofi Houston ) is a new member of WWE and from Jamaica . He blabbered constantly about how he loved Albuquerque . That’s the thing about Albuquerque fans. They boo everyone until they say how cool Albuquerque is, then all of a sudden he gets cheered. Masters came out “impromptu” and pretty much wiped this poor sap out with the Masterlock
3) Melina defeated Mickie James
Melina defended her women’s title. This segment had some shmuck in the front row as the guest ring announcer. This guy said he was from Cincinnati and the crowd booed. Then he said but now he lives in Albuquerque and loves it more than Cincinnati . Then the crowd like the drones they are cheered sick for this guy. When he introduced these two, he had the personality of wet paint. The crowd popped sick when Melina did her splits ring intro. Not a bad match and it seemed these two women were really beating on each other (particularly the hair pulling). At one point in the match, it almost legitimately looked like Mickie was “popping out” and had to readjust herself several times. Melina won by putting her hands on the ropes. The fans cheered for Mickie SICK.
4) some tag team match
I honestly didn’t know any of these 4 guys. What I do know is 2 of the guys were from Albuquerque …and they really sucked. Worst match of the night really
and this was when everyone was going for their popcorn/piss break. I think one team was Brent and Bryan Majors or something like that. They actually looked
like the Von Erichs
segment: Maria basically came out to shoot the shirts into the crowd. She was actually not sounding “dumb” like she normally does. It ended when she took off her shirt and handed it to some kid in the crowd
5) Great Khali defeated Val Venis
This was a total wipeout. Clothesline, skull chop, 2 chokeslams, done. The ironic part is both guys here got some of the biggest pops of the night. Venis for
basically playing with the crowd in where he’s gonna throw his towel….and yes, Khali was actually heavily cheered in this match. This Khali is huge in real
life……man….
6) Jeff Hardy/Super Crazy def MNM
To me, the best match of the entire night. Johnny Nitro and Hardy have tremendous moves and work well together. And frankly, I think Hardy and John Cena
received the biggest pops of the entire night. Man, Hardy is over SICK in Albuquerque . Even when Crazy was in the ring, they chanted “Hardy.” Crazy had sick
pops too but it’s probably because of a regional thing (considering we’re next to Mexico ). End came with the Swanton bomb on Mercury.
7) Ric Flair def Kenny Dykstra
Another huge pop of the night went to Flair. In fact, throughout the ENTIRE night you would hear random Woos. Flair wins with the figure four. From where I
was at, it looks like Flair is almost 70 years old and looked totally lethargic after the match.
8) Bobby Lashley def Umaga by DQ
In all honesty, and I never thought I’d say this, but if this match was any indication to what their Wrestlemania match will be like, I think this match can be a
sleeper hit. Fans cheered SICK for Lashley and it was a very good match when it came to ring psychology. Umaga was about to go for the Spike but Lashley
blocked it and belly-to-belly suplexed him. End came when AAE interfered. In the end, Lashley powerslammed AAE.
9) John Cena def Randy Orton
Cena received (like Hardy) probably the biggest ovation of the entire night. I swear, Cena’s ring entrance took like a whole 10 minutes. Match was dull with many restholds from Orton. End came when ref was KOed, Cena nailed the FU and locked the STFU, but no ref. Another ref came after Orton nailed the RKO. Cena kicked out at 2. That pissed Orton off and he nailed the 2nd ref. Orton went for the belt shot but Cena ducked, nailed the FU, good night
Biggest pops (in no order): Mickie James, Jeff Hardy/Super Crazy, Ric Flair, Bobby Lashley, John Cena
Biggest boos (in no order): Trevor Murdoch/Lance Cade, Chris Masters, that tag team match with the 4 unknowns, Umaga, Randy Orton
