“BAD MOON” RISON GETS RUDE RECEPTION IN PRO WRESTLING
Former Pro Bowl receiver falls victim to TNA’s Abyss on iMPACT! this Thursday, February 22 at 9 PM, ET/PT only on Spike TV
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (February 20, 2007) - Andre Rison, a former National Football League (NFL) wide receiver who played in five Pro Bowls during his 13-year career, was manhandled by "The Monster" Abyss during a television taping for Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling in Orlando, Fla.
Abyss flattened Rison with his Black Hole Slam finisher. The attack on Rison will be telecast this Thursday, Feb. 22, on "iMPACT!" on Spike TV from 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
“I certainly was a Joe in the middle of the ring,” said Rison, who played for seven NFL teams, most notably Atlanta, from 1989-2000. “That was the real deal; he didn’t hold back one bit.”
A lifelong pro wrestling fan, Rison said he was “thrilled” just stepping into the TNA ring. “To actually be a part of the sport, man, that was great,” Rison said. “I take my hat off and totally respect the pro wrestlers for what they do – some truly spectacular moves.”
Rison is one of the Pros this season on Spike TV’s “Pros vs Joes,” which can be seen Thursdays, 10:00-11:00, p.m. ET/PT, immediately following “iMPACT!.” “Pros vs Joes” is Spike TV popular sports-themed reality series that features regular guys competing in a variety of sports against an incredible array of sports legends. In addition to Rison, this season features Michael Irvin, Eric Dickerson, Wade Boggs, Jose Canseco, Kordell Stewart, Darryl Strawberry, Dave Winfield, Bruce Smith, Roy Jones Jr., Andre Reed, John Starks, Vince Coleman, Tim Hardaway, Grant Fuhr, Rob Dibble, Rik Smits, Will Clark, Spud Webb, Kevin Willis, Randy Couture, Mark Jackson, Claude Lemieux, Robby Ginepri, and Cobi Jones.
Rison said the run-in with Abyss hopefully will not be his lone TNA Wrestling experience. “I’d really like to get in the ring again. Pro wrestling is like tattoos … once you get a little taste, you want more,” he said.
