Smackdown 16th Feb, 2007
Submitted by Rudi Pavani on Friday, February 16, 2007 at 8:16 PM EST
G’day all to another week of Smackdown. This is Rudi (rudip1@pacific.net.au) coming to you from hot and stormy Melbourne, 36-38 degrees celcius/96-100F whereas in Europe and America there is wild weather of the colder and more dangerous side. I hope that people are being careful and staying safe! No Way Out is only 48 or so hours away so lets see what happens in this show to build up for the PPV that I’m not sure too many will buy. Last week was a good week and Smackdown continues to impress weekly more than the McMahon heavy RAW so keep your fingers crossed and on with the show!
Quick recap from last week Undertaker buries Miz both in a match and then through the announcers table. Deuce and Domino take care of London and Kendrick for the second week in a row. Maryse continues to welcome us back to Smackdown. Joey Mercury beats Matt Hardy. Mr. Kennedy cuts another great promo. Boogeyman actually wrestles for more than a minute but is beaten thankfully by Finlay. Daivari reappears on Smackdown and beats Helms in a non title match. Kristal continues to woo Teddy Long in some plot she and Vickie have cooked up. Mr. Kennedy loses his title rematch against Batista.
This show comes to us from Seattle Washington and we begin with a video replay yet again of Royal Rumble and then Undertaker choosing Batista as his opponent at Wrestlemania plus some other recaps of what has happened in the past few weeks between Undertaker/Batista/HBK/Cena. We're shown the crowd and a bit of a peek of a couple of blockbuster matches before we get the music of Boogeyman and he makes his way to the ring with the usual antics. All of a sudden and through the smoke that accompanies Boogeyman's ring intro comes Finlay from backstage and whacks Boogeyman in the head with a right hand knocking him to the floor! To jeers from the crowd he puts his shillelagh in the corner and takes to Boogeyman with kicks to the head before ramming him back first into the side of the ring. He throws Boogeyman head first into the steel steps! Eventually he picks him up and throws him into the ring, follows him in and the referee calls for the start of the match.
Match 1: Boogeyman vs. Finlay In the ring Finlay continues his assault on Boogeyman in the corner with a number of big rights and slams him into the turnbuckle. He drags him into the middle of the ring and stomps on his midsection and drops the elbow to the chest before going to work on the head and neck of Boogeyman with a rest hold. Boogeyman manages to get to his feet but is taken down by Finlay again. Finlay whips him into the corner but is met by a boot to the face when he follows him in. To no avail is this offense by Boogeyman as Finlay comes back and takes him down with a clothesline. An attempt at a pin before Finlay tries to drag Boogeyman by the foot back into the centre of the ring but Boogeyman holds onto the bottom ropes and then just with a yank of the leg tosses Finlay through the ropes and onto the floor! Finlay goes for the legs again from the floor but is kicked away by Boogeyman. This allows him to catch his breath as when Finlay reenters the ring he is taken down by a couple of clotheslines! Finlay is given an Inverted Atomic Drop and then a jab to the throat. Boogeyman whips Finlay into the corner and then gives him the splash in the corner! Another whip into the corner and another attempt at a splash but Finlay moves out of the way and Boogeyman meets nothing but turnbuckle before being floored by a blow to the back of the head from Finlay!
An attempt at a cover by Finlay before another clothesline and then a squat onto the chest of Boogeyman before going to loosen the turnbuckle. Whilst the referee is distracted Finlay goes to the opposite corner to get his shillelagh. The referee spots this however and remonstrates with Finlay which allows out of nowhere Lil' Bastard to a big cheer from the crowd to run into the ring and try to strike Boogeyman with his shillelagh to no avail as Boogeyman rolls out of the way. All of a sudden and from the opposite corner we get a mini Boogeyman enter the ring, decked out with the same facepaint as Boogeyman and the crowd are loving this. He takes to Lil' Bastard. The referee tries to separate them as Finlay looks on and when he turns around is met with a poke to the ribs by the stick Boogeyman uses for his ring entrance! Boogeyman goes for the cover which the referee notices and this one folks, is over! Boogeyman defeated Finlay in 4 minutes. Rudi' rating - * 1/2 Rudi's rant - It was only going to be a matter of time before WWE introduced another vertically challenged wrestler to mix it up with Lil' Bastard and well, we got a mini Boogeyman. Now we have to put up with two sets of antics? The crowd loved it though for some reason which is a bit beyond me. As to the match itself? Finlay's rushing through the smoke to take down Boogeyman looked really good on TV and Finlay took it to him though Boogeyman moves so slow in the ring, a couple of times Finlay needed to almost consciously slow some moves so Boogeyman could take the advantage. I'd rather see Finlay in a more meaningful feud I must admit. As to Boogeyman? He still deserves to not be on the show in my humble opinion.
Post match and Finlay and the two Boogeymen celebrate outside the ring whilst in the ring Finlay and Lil' Bastard look down in disgust at them as they both eat worms. We get a replay of the last few moves before going back to a still of what happened on RAW with Undertaker and Batista looking down at a fallen HBK and John Cena before we get a sneak preview of Ashley coming up later in the show to reveal the cover to the Playboy magazine she will be appearing in.
Commercial break...
Back from commercial and we get a RAW rebound with Donald Trump appearing on RAW and a Wrestlemania match is made between a representative of both of them yet to be named. The loser, either Trump or McMahon as manager gets their head shaved. Back to Cole and JBL discussing the match with JBL commenting on the match being between the two biggest egos and the two biggest hairdo's as we get the music to Deuce and Domino as they come out to the ring for a singles match. They go through the whole intro to not much of a reaction sadly from the crowd who are yet to give them the heat they perhaps need. To a bigger cheer we get Kendrick and London rush to the ring with Kendrick wearing his mask but no Ashley.
Match 2: Deuce (with Domino and Cherry) vs. Brian Kendrick (with Paul London) We begin with the two wrestlers squaring off in the middle of the ring before Deuce shoves Kendrick in the face pushing him into the corner. Kendrick comes back at him with a right arm which Deuce doesn't really sell at all. Kendrick ducks under a Deuce attempt at a blow and takes to him with a couple of blows before being shoved onto the canvas by Deuce. Kendrick comes straight back at him with a number of blows again before coming off the ropes but he is taken down by a clothesline! Deuce now with a knee lift to the face and he's in control as he attempts a cover before stomping into Kendrick and another attempted pin. Deuce grinds an elbow into the face of Kendrick as the crowd starts up a clap for Kendrick who gets to his feet. Deuce in control again though as he halts the momentum with a punch to the head then whips Kendrick into the ropes and attempts to back body drop him! Kendrick latches onto Deuce however and tries to pull him down for the pin but Deuce just spins out of it and lands a fist to the head of Kendrick! Deuce in control again as he lifts up Kendrick by the hair and then gives him a big right had as the opponents finally get some heat! A big knee to the head of Kendrick and an attempted pin but only for a two count.
Deuce again with the elbow to the face of Kendrick before he is beaten off by a number of back kicks to the head by Kendrick. Deuce is still in control though as he slams him into the corner but is met by a big kick to the face when he charges in, staggering him! Kendrick now with a blow to the head from the ropes and then a dropkick knocking Deuce to the canvas! A cross body from the ropes and a heel kick to the face and the crowd are a bit more into the match now. Kendrick goes to charge off the ropes but is stopped by Domino who grabs him by the leg from the floor. London comes around and takes to Domino and as the referee is distracted with this Kendrick is taken to by Deuce with a blow to the head. Deuce can't take the advantage as he attempts a back suplex which Kendrick rolls out of! Kendrick is thrown out of the ring as he comes at Deuce again but manages to hang onto the ropes though and knocks Deuce back into the centre of the ring as he then rushes to the ropes to attempt Sliced bread #2 which we know just isn't going to work. Domino and London have been separated which allows Domino to rush to the corner and push Kendrick from the ropes back into the ring! This allows Kendrick to in a daze sit up in the middle of the ring right where Deuce can deliver the finishing move "Crack him in the mouth" (a big boot to the face) from the ropes and Kendrick is down and out as the count is made! Deuce (with Domino and Cherry) defeated Brian Kendrick (with Paul London) in 4 minutes. Rudi's rating ** 1/4 Rudi's rant - Poor Brian Kendrick. I wonder if he has insurance? Every week lately he seems to be the half of the Tag Team champions in the most trouble and tonight was no exception. An okay match which showed the dominance in power from Deuce and with the Tag Team titles on the line at No Way Out we're going to need to see some more high flying moves from the Champions. I think it's a bit early still for Deuce/Domino to have a title shot considering they've had no buildup at all and Regal/Taylor seem to have fallen off the side of the Earth but hopefully they can still put on a good match and here's hoping to more tag teams on Smackdown so we can actually have some different teams wrestling.
Post match and Deuce and Domino celebrate in the ring as London looks after Kendrick in the ring. Another replay of the finishing minute before we're shown London in the ring with Kendrick looking down at Deuce/Domino form the apron as they mouth off at them. JBL and Michael Cole discuss the two main event matches coming up and Lashley supposedly appearing on the show before we go to...
Commercial break...
Back from commercial and Queen Sharmell welcoming us to a new skit At the Movies where she introduces King Booker who comes in and sits down next to her. They're reviewing See No Evil starring Kane where Booker sees he doesn't see an evil man but a disturbed one. Booker sees him being vanquished at No Way Out, vanquished by King Booker. Does Kane inspire fear? We get a clip form the movie where Kane comes through a wall and beats up on some of the characters. Back to Booker and Sharmell where they are laughing madly and Booker says he's seen scarier movies/characters such as the Muppets! The movie has no style, has no sense of menace. Back to a clip now of how Booker would do it with an overlay of him and an axe dubbed over the movie in the background telling people to run from him, the King of the World. Back to Sharmell cheering him on and Booker says he doesn't fear Kane at all before the lights go out and we get a red glow and haunting music as we get the voice of Kane saying that on this Sunday there is no way out as Kane rips the back curtain with a knife and puts his head through and Booker and Sharmell hightail it out of there! Rudi's rant - ummm, that was one very stupid skit but funny in its own way. It builds up their match some for the PPV yes and Booker and Sharmell do work really well together. Silly, but funny! Back to action and JBL and Cole discuss the match with JBL and a big smile on his face before we get another RAW rebound of Batista/Undertaker/Cena/HBK vs. Kennedy/MVP/Edge/Randy Orton.
We're shown backstage with Shawn Michaels getting ready to a nice cheer from the crowd and Cena walks in. Cena says yes, at Wrestlemania they're facing each other but tonight Cena has Michael's back. Michaels says that he has his back in return in any lead up to Wrestlemania and their match against each other as we see Kennedy and MVP walking through backstage as we go to...
Commercial break...
Back from commercial and we get the music to DX as Shawn Michaels makes his way to the ring slapping hands with the crowd along the rampway. He salutes the crowd and has a nice pop before he sets off the DX pyros in the ring. We then get another huge pop from the crowd as the music of John Cena hits and he makes his way to the ring as well. Cena salutes the crowd with his title belts then salutes the crowd as he and Michaels then look at each other before we get the music of Mr. Kennedy and he makes his way down to ringside mouthing off at his opponents before we get the music of MVP and he makes his way to the ring with his full intro. Kennedy and MVP talk to each other before entering the ring and mouthing off at Michaels and Cena.
Match 3: Shawn Michaels and John Cena vs. Mr. Kennedy and MVP The match begins with Michaels and Mr. Kennedy locking up in the middle of the ring before Michaels was pushed into the corner. They wrestle each other in the corner before the referee gets in between them and forces the clean break with a cocky looking Mr. Kennedy backing off as the crowd starts up a HBK chant. They lock up again in a to and fro battle before Michaels gets him into a headlock and then an arm bar which is then reversed by Kennedy. Michaels breaks out of it with elbows to the head. Michaels comes off the ropes and Kennedy attempts to hip toss him but it's reversed and the toss is given to Kennedy. Michaels then gets a side headlock on Kennedy who manages to get him into the corner before taking to Michaels with a number of blows and shoulder blocks. He whips Michaels across the ring into the opposite corner but is met by a boot to the face when he charges in. Michaels now with a chop to the chest of a staggering Kennedy and he makes the tag to Cena who comes into the ring with a big pop from the crowd! He whips Kennedy across the ring and takes his down with his version of the hip toss before a body slam and an elbow to the chest and then the attempted cover. Cena stops Kennedy from tagging and takes to Kennedy with big right hands and then elbows in the corner as the crowd starts up a big Cena chant! Kennedy is whipped across the ring and Cena charges in but Kennedy moves out of the way at the last moment and Cena collects nothing but turnbuckle. He is then taken down with a clothesline by Kennedy who tags in MVP.
MVP takes to the back of Cena before an attempted pin and then gets Cena into the corner where he offloads with lefts and rights before tagging in Kennedy again. Kennedy now takes to Cena with a number of blows before whipping him across the ring into the opposite corner. He is met by a boot to the face as he charges in however and Cena, rather than taking advantage goes straight for the tag and Michaels now in the ring takes to Kennedy. A whip across the ring is reversed by Kennedy who is then taken down by a flying elbow from Michaels. Michaels to a cheer from the crowd kicks himself up and then takes to Kennedy with an Inverted Atomic Drop! MVP rushes in to help but is given the same by Michaels and a right hand to the face! Michaels with a body slam on Kennedy and he exits the ring and climbs to the top rope before dropping the elbow onto Kennedy. Michaels tunes up for Sweet Chin Music but is distracted by MVP who charges at him along the apron. Michaels ducks the blow and Cena comes from his corner and knocks MVP to the floor to a big cheer from the crowd! Michaels turns around and ducks a Kennedy attempt at a blow and then looks to give him Sweet Chin Music but Kennedy is quicker than that and falls to the canvas and rolls out of the ring! Michaels looks at Kennedy and MVP outside the rings and delivers a moonsault onto the both of them from over the top rope then reenters the ring as we go to...
Commercial break...
Back from commercial and Michaels is taking it to Kennedy in the ring and working on his left arm. He makes the tag to Cena and they double whip him across the ring and take him down with an elbow before Cena glares at MVP before giving Kennedy a front suplex and an attempted pin. He then grabs Kennedy and rams him into the feet of Michaels who is draped across the middle rope before making the tag. Michaels goes to work on the arm of Kennedy but is given a blow to the face, and some more before he manages to give him a body slam before dropping the elbow onto his chest and making the tag to MVP. He comes in and attempts the same but Michaels moves at the last moment. Michaels now goes to work on the arm of MVP who pushes him into the ropes and takes to him with some right hands breaking the hold. MVP tries for a body slam but Michaels wriggles out the back of it and then pushes MVP into the ropes with him behind but MVP holds onto the ropes and Michaels falls back into the centre of the ring but bounces up quickly and almost takes out the referee who couldn't get out of the way in time! Michaels charges MVP who ducks a blow and as Michaels hits the ropes, Mr. Kennedy lifts the top rope whilst standing on the middle rope and Michaels falls through them and onto the floor! Cena rushes in but is pushed back by the referee as Kennedy takes Michaels down on the floor with a big clothesline before throwing him back into the ring.
MVP attempts the pin and then gives Michaels a big body slam before showing off to the crowd and coming down on Michaels with an elbow before another attempted pin. MVP continues the assault on Michaels before making the tag to Kennedy who comes in and takes to Michaels with a number of kicks and punches as the crowd starts up a big HBK chant again. Michaels fights back and the two go toe to toe before Kennedy once again takes the advantage with a number of kicks to the gut of Michaels, chokes him with the boot and then walks away and come back into the corner and kicks Michaels to the head! An attempted pin for a 2 1/2 count by the referee. A tag is made to MVP who takes to the midsection and head of Michaels. As the referee pushes him away and remonstrates with him Kennedy chokes him in the corner. Cena enters the ring but is met by the referee. MVP goes to hit Michaels but Michaels attempts to break away from the both of them landing blows on MVP and elbows on Kennedy. He is met however by a big boot to the face by MVP and staggers to the canvas as MVP taunts him and attempts a couple of pins before making the tag to Kennedy. Kennedy with a hip toss and goes to work on the neck and head of Michaels with a wear hold as the crowd at the behest of Cena begins another HBK chant. HBK manages to get to his feet and tries to tag but is taken to by Kennedy again who picks him up over his shoulders and delivers his rolling reverse Samoan Drop on Michaels before exiting the ring and climbing up to the top rope. He attempts a moonsault but Michaels moves out of the way at the last moment and both wrestlers desperately try to make tags.
Kennedy makes his first but the crowd erupts as Michaels manages to make the tag to Cena who to a huge pop from the crowd runs in and meets MVP with a clothesline, Kennedy with a shoulder block, a right hand on MVP, a slam into the turnbuckle on Kennedy! He whips MVP across the ring and takes him down with a back body drop! He throws Kennedy out of the ring over the top rope! MVP tries a right hand on him but he ducks it and then takes him down with a side slam! He takes in the cheers of the crowed as he prepares for the Five knuckle shuffle which he lands to a huge cheer from the crowd. From behind him Kennedy comes into the ring with a chair but is taken out by Sweet Chin Music! Cena to a big cheer from the crowd picks up MVP over his shoulders and delivers the FU and this one is over! Shawn Michaels and John Cena defeated Mr. Kennedy and MVP in 15 minutes. Rudi's rating - **** Rudi's rant - I rated this match highly because of the entertainment value, the involvement from the crowd and the action shown by all four wrestlers. Cena and Michaels are going to always get a good crowd reaction especially in a cameo appearance and Kennedy continues to impress with his wrestling and just his cocky attitude every week and MVP though he still doesn't have a great array of moves held his own and shows he can be involved in more of the main event matches and can only get better. He also just seems to work really well with Kennedy for some reason. I loved this match, the crowd did and a 15 minute middle of the show match doesn't go astray at all!
Post match and Cena celebrates the win. He hands the tag team title to Michaels and nods at him as we get a replay of the last minute of the match again where Michaels took out Kennedy to look out for Cena before we go back into the ring and they hold up the Tag Team titles to the cheering crowd. We then go backstage where Kristal is talking to Teddy Long about the Diva Talent contest at No Way Out. Kristal says she's the most talented Diva and says she's having a problem deciding what to do, be it a monologue or a dance as Teddy asks her if she can dance. We're then interrupted by Jillian who comes in singing and says she's having problems picking a song and thinks she may rap. Teddy says she should practice a bit more as she leaves and Kristal says she's still the talented one. She has a hidden talent she wants to show Teddy Long as she removes her jacket and top revealing her bra. She plays with the straps and slides up against Teddy Long who doesn't know which way to look as we go thankfully...
Commercial break...
Back from commercial and we're shown the arena from the outside as we go to another RAW rebound where Dusty Rhodes was shown to be the first inductee for the Hall of Fame announced by Roddy Piper (welcome back Roddy by the way from your chemotherapy treatment) before they were interrupted by Umaga who took them both out. Back to ringside and JBL and Michael Cole discussing the Hall of Fame ceremony on Wrestlemania weekend before we go backstage again and Kristal is topless but with her back to Teddy Long and she wanders off as Teddy sits down and cleans his glasses. Rudi's rant - This whole thing with Kristal is going somewhere obviously and in addition to Vickie Guerrero this plot continues to develop and well, we'll see what happens in the next couple of weeks I suppose. A knock on the door and in enters Lashley in a suit to a nice pop from the crowd. They say hello to each other before Kennedy rushes in and tells Long that he is a singles competitor, not a tag competitor and he's not happy! Kennedy says to Lashley that he's beaten everyone on Smackdown including Lashley when he was on Smackdown. He now wants a go at Lashley for the ECW title and tells Teddy to make it happen as Long says he'll speak to ECW to see what he can do. Kennedy walks away and Lashley looks at Teddy Long and tells him to make it happen!
We're then brought back to the front of the arena where Ashley is making her way out to the ring which has been decked out with red carpet. Ashley salutes the crowd and we're getting the launch of the Playboy cover. Ashley talks to the crowd about as a little girl she didn't know what she wanted to do but went to College where she graduated with a degree in communication and then one day her whole life changed and she was voted to become the WWE Diva. She now travels around the world and today entertains the crowd in a whole different way. She gets the crowd to countdown from 3 where they don't and the cover of the Playboy magazine that she is appearing in is revealed. She poses in front of the cover handing from the ceiling with a number of photographers taking photos of her before she leaves the ring and salutes the crowd as we get told about the main event. Rudi's rant - The crowd was pretty dead for this and well, understandably so as I'm sure a number of people in the crowd wouldn't be bothered buying the magazine at all. Sorry Ashley!! The thing is also that if one was to look back through the archives of LOP when it was first announced that she would be the covergirl, she has already appeared in the magazine back in 2004 under the name of Ryan Mackenzie. All things aside however, congratulations Ashley and to your continuing career in WWE, injury free! :)
Commercial break...
Back from commercial and yet another RAW rebound with Donald Trump and Vince McMahon before we're back in action and the music of Gregory Helms hits and he makes his way to the ring. He is wrestling Scotty 2 Hotty tonight as he makes his way to the ring to a good reception from the crowd and he must be one of WWE's most underutilised wrestlers.
Match 4: Gregory Helms vs. Scotty 2 Hotty in a non title match up As Scotty is saluting the crowd he is jumped from behind by Helms and this match in on! Helms takes to him with a number of boots them slams him into the turnbuckle before taking to him with a number of blows, removes the jacket Scotty was wearing and chokes him against the ropes before taking to him some more and choking him again. He whips Scotty across the ring but it's reversed and Helms hits the corner but tries to bounce out over Scotty who was ready for it and takes to Helms with some right hands as he turns around. Scotty slams the head of Helms into the corner and then offloads with a couple of big chops to the chest before taking Helms down with a side suplex. Scotty with a dropkick to the face of Helms as he is sitting on the canvas and he is in charge as he tries to whip Helms across the ring again. Helms reverses it but when he charges in for the splash meets the turnbuckle as Scotty moves away at the last minute. Scotty off the ropes delivers the bulldog on Helms before he gets that look in his eye and the crowd start the chant as Scotty looks to give Helms the Worm! He's going through the final phases of it but before he can complete the move Daivari rushes the ring and takes to Scotty as the referee calls for the bell. Gregory Helms and Scotty 2 Hotty fought to a no contest in 2 minutes. Rudi's rating - * 1/2 Rudi's rant - Scotty is a bit of a cult figure for WWE. He doesn't wrestle enough, gets hammered upon whenever he appears yet the crowd like him. It wasn't much of a match given the time of 2 minutes but for what it was meant to do it achieved in a pretty painless manner.
Post match and Daivari poses to the crowd before to a big cheer Funaki who JBL refers to as Smackdown's Number 2 announcer behind himself rushes the ring and takes to Daivari with a bulldog and boots to the head before Jamie Noble rushes the ring and takes down Funaki with a great looking face first knee lift to the chest type move. I don't know the name of it but it looked good! All of a sudden Shannon Moore enters the ring and he takes Noble down with a moonsault from the top rope before Gregory Helms reenters the rings and takes out Shannon Moore! Gregory Helms rolls out the ring holding his belt up at the crowd where out of nowhere Jimmy Wang Yang rushes out from behind knocks Helms back into the ring and takes him out with a moonsault from the top rope! Helms rolls out of the ring and as we go to a commercial break we're left with the cruiserweights staring down at Helms who is backing up the rampway.Rudi's rant - This was a nice little segment and hopefully we'll have a nice Cruiserweight Battle Royale or something similar at the PPV.
Commercial break...
Back from commercial and Maryse is in a bath surrounded by candles welcoming us back to Smackdown. We're then given the same scene but with Big Dick Johnson. We're shown some highlights from earlier tonight between Finlay/Boogeyman as they have a match at No Way Out as well as the other matches being held at No Way Out. We're then backstage again and Edge and Orton are discussing their tag team match coming up and Orton is telling Edge that they have to do more tonight than just be on the same page as wrestling partners. Orton says they should make Batista and Undertaker turn on each other as they don't quite trust each other and we go to commercial break as they continue to discuss tactics.
Commercial break...
Back from commercial and a video package showing that Rey Mysterio comes back to Smackdown next week!! Yay!!! We're then given the entry music of Edge and Randy Orton as they make their way towards the ring. They both pose to the crowd to not a huge cheer by the looks of it but certainly the hand gestures are there from the crowd as we then get the music of Batista as he stalks the stage before setting off his pyros and making his way down to ringside. He enters the ring as Orton and Edge leave and poses to the crowd from all corners. We then get the gong, the lights go down and then the music of Undertaker as he slowly makes his way to the ring. Together with the intro of Batista and Undertaker they can take up half of a PPV!
Match 5: Randy Orton and Edge vs. Batista and Undertaker We begin with Edge and Undertaker in the ring. Undertaker stalks Edge into the corner and takes to him with a knee to the chest and a big right to the head before going to work on this arm before climbing the ropes and attempting to do Old School. We're shown a picture of Cena and Michaels watching backstage on a monitor before back to action Edge yanks Undertaker off the top rope before he can finish his move but Undertaker as he comes down manages to yank Edge himself across the ring. He then takes him down with a big clothesline and Orton as well who tried to enter the ring! He takes Edge by the arm again and climbs the ropes and does Old School again completing it this time before making the tag to Batista who enters and goes to work on Edge taking him down with a couple of shoulder blocks and a power slam before knocking Randy Orton off the apron! He gets Edge into the corner and delivers a number of shoulder blocks against him. Randy enters the ring again but is picked up by Batista and manhandled into the corner in front of Edge and Batista shoulder blocks the both of them and again before Undertaker enters the ring and both he and Batista clothesline them over the top rope as we go to...
Commercial break...
Back from commercial and Batista has just whipped Edge into the corner and followed up with a big clothesline. He yanks Edge into the middle of the ring and goes to come off the ropes but is met with a knee to the back by Orton! Batista turns around and hits Orton off the apron and into the announcers table. He then gets Edge and throws him over the top rope landing him next to Orton! He exits the ring and picks Edge up and slams him back first into the apron. As he goes to reenter the ring however Randy grabs him from behind and delivers a back breaker on him. This gives Edge the chance to come off the ropes and connect with a baseball slide into the face of Batista knocking him flat onto his back on the floor. Edge exits the ring and goes after Batista with some big right hands before throwing Batista back into the ring and tagging in Orton where they connect with a double dropkick! An attempted pin to no avail by Orton who then stomps all over Batista before dropping the knee to the head. His attempt at a pin is broken by Undertaker and he makes the tag and Edge comes in and continues the assault on Batista before making the tag to Orton who to a huge jeer poses to the crowd. He spins Batista over and gets him in a headlock as Undertaker stalks the apron. Batista manages to get to his feet and throw Orton into the ropes and then take him down with a side slam!
Batista staggers towards Undertaker but Edge enters and takes out Batista. Orton finally manages to tag Edge but at the last minute Batista manages to tag in Undertaker as well! Undertaker to a big cheer from the crowd enters and takes to both Edge and Orton with left and rights. In opposite corners he has them and clotheslines them both twice! The crowd are enjoying this as he gets both Edge and Randy in a chokeslam position but they kick out of it. They whip Undertaker into the ropes, he ducks under the double clothesline attempt and takes out Edge with the flying clothesline as Randy Orton slides out of the ring but into the waiting arms of Batista who slams his head against the apron. In the ring Undertaker is taking to Edge with big rights before he tries to whip him across the ring. Edge reverses it but Undertaker reverses it as well and rams Edge into the referee taking him out of the ring! Undertaker picks up Edge and delivers Snake Eyes before coming off the ropes and landing the big boot to the face! Undertaker stalks Edge as outside the ring we see Orton slide out from behind Batista who is carrying him and rams him into the steel ring post! Randy gets onto the apron but is taken to the floor by a big boot from Undertaker! Undertaker turns around to go back for Edge but is taken down by a Spear!
Edge slides out of the ring and goes for a couple of steel chairs and looks to give Undertaker a conchairto! As he is about to hit him with the chair however Undertaker sits up and grabs Edge around the throat. The crowd are going crazy as he looks to chokeslam him but Orton comes in from behind and gives Undertaker a low blow! Undertaker is in agony as Orton is standing in the ring and he picks up a chair and stalks Undertaker. He takes Undertaker down with the chair, throws both chairs out of the ring and exits himself to try to revive the referee! A new referee from the back comes out and starts the count but manages only 2 1/2 before Undertaker kicks out! Edge stands up but Batista enters the ring and takes him down with a shoulder block and then one to Randy as well and then another to Edge! He gives Edge a spinebuster much to the delight of the crowd! He shakes the ring ropes, goes to give Randy the Batista Bomb but is speared by Edge as he has him over his head! Edge stands over Batista mouthing off at him but all of a sudden Undertaker gets up and as Edge turns around is grabbed around the throat and given a choke slam! Undertaker stalks Edge, picks him up and we get the Tombstone Piledriver and this one is over! Batista and Undertaker defeated Randy Orton and Edge in 12 minutes Rudi's rating - **** Rudi's rant - Another huge match and great crowd involvement again. Batista and Undertaker got to show off their signature moves again and Batista performs so much better in a tag match or a triple threat match than if he is wrestling one on one! My only gripe is that it would have been nice to see Edge and Orton perform a lot better and actually have a lot more offense. After all, Edge was World Champion, both he and Randy were recently Tag Team Champions and they are the top heels on RAW so they could have taken more to Undertaker/Batista. Though Orton isn't a Smackdown star there are those out there who do like him and he's improved quite a lot in the ring and maybe it's time to give him a title again?
Post match and out of nowhere Shawn Michaels and John Cena storm the ring! Shawn Michaels takes out Undertaker with a heel kick and John Cena gives Batista a FU and Shawn Michaels gives Undertaker Sweet Chin Music! Cena poses over Batista and salutes him as together Shawn and Cena stare down at their No Way Out opponents before they leave the ring. The show ends with Cena and Michaels walking backstage as Batista and Undertaker are left in the ring feeling the pain!
Okay! Now that was a bit of a show wasn’t it? Two major tag team matches involving RAW superstars, two of which admittedly, Cena/Michaels are appearing at No Way Out. We also had a visit from ECW Champion Bobby Lashley and in the Gregory Helms segment we also had Shannon Moore who is either still on EVW or is making the move to Smackdown? There was no Benoit in the show, yet again there was no Regal/Taylor, no Matt Hardy, no Miz, no Kane or Booker action. All in all though with No Way Out on Sunday and only 48 days or something similar to Wrestlemania the show flowed along nicely and the crowd were into the matches. I’m going to give the show a 7 out of 10, only because of the two major matches that were held, there was way too much RAW Rebound stuff happening, the crowd was hot, so an 8 out of 10 and the commentary a good 8 out of 10 as well. JBL continues to impress over the past few weeks and those segments where him and Cole together are discussing matches is funny because sometimes JBL just can’t keep a straight face. Let’s see how next week pans out with the fall out from No Way Out! Have a safe and happy week.
No Way Out predictions.
Paul London and Brian Kendrick vs. Deuce and Domino for the Tag Team Championship - I can see London and Kendrick winning this after having been beaten a number of times in the past few weeks. Maybe some interference from Regal and Taylor but the Tag Team Titles will stay. Kane vs. King Booker - I'm giving this one to King Booker with interference from Sharmell. Diva Talent Invitational - Does anyone care? I'd actually like for Jillian to win in that hopefully she actually can sing but I'm going to give it to Ashley because of her upcoming pictorial or Kristal. Cruiserweight challenge if it is on - This hasn't been announced by the time of me posting but if this match is on I'd like to see Jimmy Wang Yang win. Finlay and Lil' Bastard vs. Boogeyman and Little BoogeyPlease let it be Finlay! Bobby Lashley vs. Mr. Kennedy for the ECW Championship - Bobby Lashley to retain as Kennedy is currently too big to go to ECW I think. Batista/Undertaker vs. Cena/Michaels - I'm going for a no contest, disqualification or something similar here as you don't want to lessen any of these wrestlers.
