WWE Smackdown!/ECW House Show
January 21, 2007
Monroe, Louisiana – Monroe Civic Center
We got to the Civic Center about two hours before show time and hung out
outside the parking garage. The people who were there before us said Kane
had been there not 10 minutes earlier signing autographs. We saw a lot of
the wrestlers arrive: Lashley and Boogeyman (who had a hood over his head
because apparantly he does his make up at his hotel), London and Ashley,
Kendrick by himself, Punk and Kennedy, and Regal and Taylor. Lashley came
over to sign autographs and take pictures. I got his autograph when they
were there last year, but I did shake his hand.
The show began with Teddy Long coming to the ring and running down the big
matches for the night. He was interrupted by King Booker and Queen
Sharmell. Booker ran down the crowd a bit, then turned his attention to
Long. Booker said that after he beat whoever Teddy had for him tonight, he
wanted his title rematch. Teddy agreed, and introduced Booker's opponent…
King Booker (w/ Queen Sharmell) defeated The Boogeyman (9:16) with a
scissors kick.
As soon as Boogeyman got the ring, the King and Queen high tailed it out of
there. Teddy told referee Jimmy Korderas to start the count. Booker slid
into the ring to break the count, and slid right back out. Booker stalled
for about 5 minutes before they locked up. Booker controlled the match for
a while until Boogeyman made his comeback. Boogeyman appeared to have the
win after side slam, but didn't go for the cover. Sharmell sprayed perfume
in Boogeyman's eyes, allowing Booker to hit the scissors kick for the win.
Booker tried to continue the beating after the match, but Boogeyman got him
with the choke bomb, and went for the worms, but Booker ran off before he
could get a taste of them.
Tommy Dreamer & The Sandman defeated Matt Striker & Elijah Burke (8:52)
when Dreamer used a DDT on Striker.
Sandman entered first through the crowd, followed by Dreamer. There were
some "E-C-Dub" chants for the ECW originals. Striker and Burke entered
together, and the match began. Dreamer and Striker started while Burke
taunted Sandman from across the ring. Striker tagged Burke in, and Burke
wanted Sandman, so Dreamer tagged out as well. I'm not good with
remembering details, but eventually Dreamer hit the DDT on Striker for the
win. Sandman looked like he may have hurt his knee, as he was definitely
favoring it and hobbled out with help from Dreamer.
Next was a bikini contest between Ashley, Rebecca, Jillian Hall, and Kelly
Kelly. Rebecca was especially hot in her teal bikini. Jillian took her
robe off last to reveal a t-shirt and shorts. She said she wasn't going to
take her clothes off, she was going to entertain us. Then she made my ears
bleed by trying to sing Brittany Spears. The other ladies took her down and
stripped her to her underwear. No winner was announced, but in my opinion,
Rebecca was the clear winner.
WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London & Brian Kendrick defeated William
Regal & Dave Taylor (12:25) when London used a Standing Star press on
Taylor.
Now this was an excellent match, a fine example of tag team wrestling. For
the first five minutes, the champions worked over Regal. The Blue Bloods
eventually took control and worked over London for several minutes,
preventing him from making the tag. At around the 11 minute mark Kendrick
made the hot tag to London, who cleaned house. Kendrick came in and hit the
Sliced Bread #2 on Taylor. London followed with a Standing Star press for
the pin.
CM Punk defeated Marquis Cor Von (4:05) by DQ.
Slight "TNA" chant at the beginning at the match. Punk was very over.
Monty (I can't get used to calling him "Marquis") did his typical stuff, and
Punk fired back with his kick boxing. Monty got Punk in the corner and
pounded on him, refusing to break when the referee told him to. Monty threw
a chair into the ring after the match, but Punk used the chair to thwart him
from returning. After the match Punk when around the guard rails shaking
hands. I shook his hand and he grabbed my shirt (the Eddie tribute shirt)
and said "Nice shirt." CM Punk complimented my shirt!
WWE United States Champion Chris Benoit defeated Chavo Guerrero Jr.
(13:39) with the Crippler Crossface.
The match was pretty good, but I'll skip the details because 1.) I don't
remember the match play-by-play, and 2.) We've seen it half a dozen times on
TV in the past couple of months. Benoit won it the Crippler Crossface.
They threw out some shirts, and we had an intermission.
Kane defeated Fit Finlay (13:41) with a chokeslam.
This was my first time seeing either of these guys live, and I'm a huge
Finlay mark so I enjoyed it. Pretty standard brawl, but fun anyway. Kane
was motioning for the chokeslam, but the Little Bastard ran in and low
blowed him. Kane eventually set them up for a double chokeslam, but Little
Bastard scrambled away and Finlay took it all the way to give Kane the win.
ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley defeated Test and Rob Van Dam (6:13)
with a running powerslam on Test.
RVD's flying made this worth seeing, while Test and Lashley did their big
man thing. Lashley hit a running powerslam on Test to make it short and
sweet at a little over six minutes.
World Heavyweight Champion Batista defeated Ken Kennedy (18:32) with the
Batista bomb.
By the time this came around I was exhausted, and it wasn't all that great
anyway. Eventually, Batista hit a Jackhammer for a near fall. Finlay
interfered, but ended up getting taken out too. Kennedy took a big Batista
bomb and Batista got the win.
After the show we went back to the parking lot, where Brian Kendrick was
signing autographs. I told him I enjoyed his ZERO-ONE work, for which he
thanked me. My friend, my girlfriend and I all got his autograph, and then
we headed home.
