TNA Wrestling Final Resolution Thursday, January 14, 2007 iMPACT! Zone; Universal Studios Soundstage 21
Match One: AJ Styles v. Rhino AJ Styles is the first out and he is sporting new ring attire in this opening match. Rhino has to chase Joe around the ring before the match can begin. The two eventually make their way into the ring but AJ continues his cowardly tactics and is run outside the ring. Rhino, in retaliation, goes high risk, cross body dropping AJ from over the top rope. AJ is the first to get up and uses the advantage to toss the “Man-Beast” back in the ring and gets a near pin. The crowd is split in two and Rhino draws strength from his half and counters the momentum with a spine buster for a pin. The ref counts, but AJ is up quickly. Examining the match is Mike Tenay who mentions both competitors advantages: AJ with the youth and dexterity to continue and Rhino’s pure strength. After a back-and-forth exchange Styles hits the pele’. Boasting AJ stands over a fallen Rhyno who apparently was playing Possum. Rhino bounces up and hits AJ with not one, but 2 Gores. Pin fall. Rhino without skipping a beat sets up a table as the ref counts down. AJ is able to get up but glances towards Rhino’s table and falls down purposely wanting to avoid any interaction with the table. Ref counts “Ten” for the finish. Rhino grabs a mic and says to AJ, “I won the war, but you’re still breathing. I’m not through with you yet!” With that Rhino chases down AJ to the back.. Winner: Rhino
As Tenay and West run down the card Styles and Rhino battle back down the entrance ramp. Rhino gains the upper hand and silences Styles with the Rhinodriver. Not yet content, The “Man-Beast” sets the table up on the entrance and preys Styles, as soon as AJ is up Rhino gores past AJ as he moved forcing Rhino into the bare table.
Backstage, Latisha has found Jerry Lynn. She asks him about him being past his prime, and the X Division pioneer takes offence telling the fans that he may be 42 and may be taking a calculated risk, but by the end of the night, he expects Daniels and Sabin to call him “teacher...”
Match Two: X Division Championship: Chris Sabin v. Jerry Lynn v. Chris Daniels (C) The Champion is the target early and he is tossed out allowing the action to be concentrated between Lynn and Sabin. The younger star gets the better of the “New F’n Show.” Daniels gets back in the ring and focuses his offense on Lynn, eventually removing him from the ring. Sabin is in control in most of his one-on-one battles up to Daniels. Fans chant “Jerry” as Sabin lands the hesitation dropkick on a tree of woe hung Chris Daniels. Lynn is willed to break Chris Sabin’s pin over the X Champion. “He doesn’t look 42 tonight,” Tenay said. The fans in Orlando are really behind Lynn. The BME is hit by Daniels on Sabin, which Lynn followed up with a sitdown powerbomb on Sabin. Lynn grabs Daniels and hits him with a modified side slam. The finish occurs when Lynn counters an Angel's Wings attempt by Daniels into his signature Cradle Piledriver. When Lynn hits the cover, Sabin rolls Lynn up quickly to get the pinfall to become the new X Division Champion. Winner: Chris Sabin
Kevin Nash introduces Bob Backlund as one his handpicked judges in a Jeremy Borash interview. Backlund looks incredibly ridiculous and confused, especially post interview, when a rushed Eric Young runs into the stage asking JB if he would go shopping with him. Borash says that he can not leave because tonight is a PPV.
Match Three: PCS Finals: Alex Shelley v. Austin Starr 10 Minute Time Limit- The judges are introduces as followed 1. Backlund 2. Big Fat Oily Guy 3. Samolian Joe (Dressed in a Power Ranger Helmet and billed from Madagascar) Kevin Nash is on commentary. That match opens with quick fan approved chain wrestling. Backlund seems to be judging based on every technical aspect of the match, Oily guy was chowing on the food and it appeared that Samolian Joe’s mask didn’t have eye hole. Shelley takes out Starr with a suicide dive through the ropes on the outside. A Moonsault is hit by Shelley on Starr back in the ring. Starr grabs some water and spits it in the face of Shelley and attempts a suplex, but Shelley blocks it and drills his boot into Starr's head. Shelley then hits the combination forearm and then an irish whip face first into the corner on Starr. Shelley then goes to the ring apron, leaps over the top rope and drives Starr's head down into the mat hitting the DDT. Shelley covers but Starr kicks out. 10 seconds left, Starr applies a Camel Clutch on Shelley. Shelley denies to tap out and the match ends. Winner: No Decision
Jeremy Borash retrieves the scorecards from the judges at ringside. Samolian Joe votes for Austin Starr. BFOG votes for Alex Shelley. Bob Backlund comes into the ring to explain his scorecard and Borash couldn't understand it. It turns out Backlund decided to judge Shelley and Starr on different categories based on mechanical performance. At one point the crowd got so quiet when Backlund read off his scoring that you could clearly hear a fan in the crowd yell, "What the f*ck?" In the end, Backlund's different scoring turns out to be a draw grabbing boos from the iMPACT! Crowd. Kevin Nash leaves the announce table and tells Borash to announce that a 5 minute Overtime will take place.
Match Threex2: Alex Shelley v. Austin Starr The two exchange pin-fall chains until Alex Shelley scores the deciding pin with a roll up. Winner: Alex Shelley
Postmatch, Kevin Nash comes in and gives Alex Shelley the bowling trophy. Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt and Senshi all came down to congratulate Shelley on his win. An aggravated Starr then begins arguing with Kevin Nash. Starr grabs a mic and says he was sick of jumping on pogo sticks and doing the limbo adding that he “damn sure wasn't in TNA to revive someone elses career”. The only person he respects is Senshi, the warrior. Starr tells Senshi they should leave. Senshi declines promoting Starr to say that maybe Senshi didn’t hear him and told him to leave with him again, but this time in "Warrior tone." Starr then slaps Senshi and Senshi goes after Starr. Starr is dumped to the outside and gets in Bob Backlund's face. Starr pie faces Backlund and Backlund grabs him, locking on the crossface chicken wing to end the PCS Tournament.
Match Four: “Cowboy” James Storm v. Petey Williams Fast paced match. Gail Kim is aligned with Storm still as he makes his way to the ring, despite not looking happy about it. Storm wins the quick match using the ropes and after the match he looks to take out Williams. He handcuffs Williams to the ropes and grabs his beer bottle, preparing it to bash it off Petey’s face. Kim stops him but this only promotes Storm to focus his bottle onto her. Storm teased hitting Kim with it until Kim gave Storm a low blow and started hitting him over the back. Jacqueline of WWE fame hits the ring and starts taking out Kim. Jacqueline hits a leg drop on Kim from the top rope and then celebrates with her new man. Winner: James Storm
The Voodoo Kin Mafia recounts their victory over Michael Hickenbottom, Paul Levesque, and Dumb To The Extreme. James said they did everything they could have possibly done and runs down all of their antics that included camping outside WWE Headquarters, confronting Triple H at a Raw House Show and then welcoming Shawn Michaels to the Alamo in San Antonio. He adds that no one likes to see a man down, speaking about Triple H, and wishes Paul a quick recovery. BG then says he didn't understand why Vince McMahon didn't accept their $1 million challenge since it would have brought him big ratings. BG adds that it also wouldn't be the kind of ratings Vince got by having two fake celebrities fight in his ring. He says he watched that and heard the boo's in the crowd. BG said those boo's then changed to something else - a TNA chant. The fans in Orlando chant “TNA” loudly. He says Vince insults the intelligence of wrestling fans every Monday night. BG then says to Vince (and sings), “WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT!” BG smiles and said you couldn't script that even if you wanted to. He says TNA was here to stay, even if Vince liked it or not. This prompted Christy Hemme to come out on a feminist parade mentioning Joanie Laurer (Chyna) and how she as a woman has no respect. She talk of how she only wants to wrestle. The fans “crapped”on her as they chanted “WE WANT WRESTLING!” Hemme agreed. The fans then begin chanting “BORING.” BG tells her to come back in the ring. He said he agreed with everything she said and that some men in this business do think that way. Kip James then takes the mic away from BG and said he was one of those guys. Kip calls Christy a slut and told her she should go get her old job back stripping. He told Christy to never interrupt him ever again and said girls were only good for two things...BG pulls the mic away. Christy agrees with Kip, saying that those 2 things are “their body and putting men in their place” and then she proceeds to slap him. BG has to hold Kip from getting out of hand.
Jeremy Borash finds Team 3D backstage. Brother Ray says tonight is the old school vs. the new school - the old punks vs. the new punks. He says they are jealous of LAX because they have something they want - the NWA World Tag Team Titles. Ray promises a win tonight over LAX. When 3D leaves, Sting walks up and asks Borash if he has seen Abyss. Borash says he hasn't.
Match Five: NWA World Tag Team Championship: Team 3D v. LAX (C) High-risk moves is the story when it came to Homicide and Hernandez, of whom were not going to back down a fight against Team 3D. The fight gets to be really vicious once Brother Ray and Homicide brawl on the outside. Ray had been bashing Homicide repeatedly back first into the guardrail. Ray becomes slightly busted open on the ring apron. Devon makes a comeback on both members of LAX long enough to get the Hot tag on Brother Ray. Team hits "whazzup" drop followed by the 3D on Homicide and then send Hernandez to the outside afterwards. The finish is Brother Runt coming out down the ramp wearing his Santa outfit. Runt gets up on the top rope, takes a drink of alcohol and then leaps off the top rope splashing Homicide. The referee sees this and calls for the DQ. Both Brother Ray and Brother Devon have shocked looks on their faces. Afterwards Brother Ray grabs Runt and sends him to the outside crashing into the ring barrier. Winner: LAX
Match Six: Ironman Match: Kurt Angle v. Samoa Joe It was learned earlier in the night that the winner of this match would receive a shot at the NWA World Heavyweight Title at next month’s “Against All Odds” Pay-Per-View. The opening minutes of this bout saw Angle and Joe measuring each other’s strengths. The two went back and forth with chops and submission holds in trying to weaken the opposition to gain the first decision. Both Angle and Joe were very focused during the match, not only to gain the shot at the NWA World Title, but also to have the bragging rights of winning such a physically grueling match that tests endurance. Joe hits a running forearm, then comes down hard and hits his head on the rail. Joe tosses Angle back into the ring, and covers him for a two count. Angle comes back but Joe catches him with a powerslam for another nearfall. Angle comes back again to hit an overhead release suplex, scoring a two count but to no avail as Joe snapped on a Muscle Buster that Angle evades and rolls through. Joe catches Angle with a choke and Angle tapped out. Winner of Fall #1: Samoa Joe by submission. Angle-0; Joe-1 Kurt Angle would fire back though and tie things at the 14 to go mark when Samoa Joe tapped out to the Ankle Lock. But Angle is not through with the offense as Joe taps to yet another Angle lock with 11 to go. Angle-2; Joe -1 Joe ties the match soon afterwards with a Koheena Clutch but Angle turned it around right afterwards as falls seemingly were no longer at a premium. Kurt Angle hits a sunset flip pin on Samoa Joe for the next fall. Angle-3; Joe-2 Joe with under 5-minutes left to potentially tie the match up or face a loss went through a trance of inflicting as much pain as possible on the Olympic legend, but the Muscle Buster would be broken up with a rope break. With 50 seconds left, Angle was fighting off the Angle lock inverted from a Rear Naked Choke; he was going into the turtle position in trying to prevent the move when the time had expired by one second when Kurt Angle tapped out to his own finisher. Winner: Kurt Angle.
Jeremy Borash finds Sting and he explains that tonight he will set Abyss free from the devil’s grasp which promptly brought in Jim mItchell with the Heavyweight Champion. Mitchell explains that Sting is no different than other men, as he can thump his bible all he wants but Sting will still find his Revalations tonight, as he will face his end at the hands of Abyss. Sting fires back saying that the Sinister Minister had better be prepared to dance with the devil in Hell because Sting saw no room for Jim here on Earth.
Match Seven: World Heavyweight Championship: Sting v. Christian Cage v. Abyss (C) Triple Threat Elimination Match, but a very special stipulation was going to be enforced by TNA management director Jim Cornette. Tomko, Cage’s partner, was locked inside a cage setup at ringside to prevent him from influencing the decision of this match. Early on Sting sends Abyss out of the ring and begins working on Christian Cage in the corner with a series of punches. However, Abyss brings Sting to the outside as well and sends him head first into the cage containing Tomko. Christian Cage takes advantage by beating on the laying body of Sting upon scoop slamming him to the concrete floor. Back in the ring, Cage attempts to weaken “The Monster, but it was a tad much. Abyss almost eliminates Christian Cage with the Shock Treatment. Despite being locked in the cage, Tomko is still a factor when he reaches out of the cage to choke Sting. In the ring, Abyss and Cage still battle it out but out until Sting emerge from behind Abyss and hits off the Scorpion Death Drop to eliminate the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Abyss chokes Sting and allows Captain Charisma to work over him as well, but Sting no sells and regains control of the match. Stinger splash, but misses a follow up. Sting hits a superplex when Jim Mitchell returns to ringside. Sting's attention focuses purely on him. Mitchell openes the cage door as Sting applies the Scorpion to Cage. Tomko breaks up the ensuing pin attempt forces Sting to suffer a Death Valley Driver. Sting kicks out from Cage’s attempted pin as hell breaks loose. Tomko comes in again, but Sting flipps him over the ring. Abyss comes down and is after Tomko. He throws Tomko back in the cage. Sting drops Cage with a Unprettier but manages to kicks out.
