Smackdown 5th January 2007 - short results
Submitted by Rudi Pavani on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 7:44 PM EST

Hi everyone and a happy new year to all! This is short and sweet today. Once again I've been let down by the Melbourne weather and thanks to a power outage the episode of Smackdown which airs here on a Friday afternoon Melbourne time (overnight Eastern time in the U.S.) didn't record. The results are here but when the show repeats on the weekend I'll flesh it out more. My apologies to the webmaster and to the loyal readers of LOP

On the Best of Smackdown show shown over the Christmas break the CEO of Smackdown Teddy Long announced that there would be a "Smackdown Sprint" which is a series of matches and the winner of the shortest match gets to face Batista in a World Championship Match at the Royal Rumble. The "Sprint" will take place over two weeks and involve 4 matches each week.

The show was filmed in Lakeland Florida

Teddy Long announces the sprint and Batista comes to the ring and cuts a promo about how he likes the idea.

Match 1: Kane vs. Chavo Guerrero
Kane wins the match in 7 minutes and 53 seconds in from what I've read in a very good match

Match 2: Paul London vs. Brian Kendrick
These two fight to a No Contest as they fail to beat the 7 minutes, 53 seconds match result by Kane & Chavo

JBL speaks to MVP about the burns he received in his Inferno match against Kane at Armageddon.

Match 3: King Booker vs. Gregory Helms
Booker beats Helms in 6 minutes, 24 seconds to have the quickest win so far. Helms after the match is accosted by Boogeyman who does his worm thing.

Match 4: Ashley vs. Jillian Hall
In a match which wasn't part of the "Sprint" Ashley defeats Jillian in 3 minutes.

Match 5: Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Tatanka
These two fight to a non-contest in 6 minutes, 25 seconds failing to beat the Booker/Helms time. After the match Tatanka assaults Yang beating him down.

Vickie Guerrero is interviewed backstage and apparently is angry not only at Benoit but Chavo as well as the fans who she feels have all turned their back on her.

Match 6: Mr. Kennedy vs. Chris Benoit
Mr. Kennedy beats Benoit in 5 minutes and 7 seconds after throwing Benoit into an exposed turnbuckle thus holding the shortest time this week

Teddy Long hypes next week where we will have wrestlers such as The Undertaker, Matt Hardy, Finlay and MVP involved in the "Sprint".

Please come back in the next day or so to see the full results from all the matches! I look forward in the next few weeks to bring you the best in reporting from Smackdown and am open to a whole range of new ideas in how to make things better for you, the readers, those who make what we do worthwhile.

    Cheers!
