Although this week's WWE SmackDown! special—featuring Theodore Long's announcement regarding the Royal Rumble—does not air in the US until this evening, the special was produced earlier this week, allowing fans to learn the news in advance.
According to PWInsider, Long announces on the telecast that there will be a "SmackDown! Sprint" to determine the challenger for Batista's title.
On next week's SmackDown, a series of matches will be held. The wrestler who wins his match in the shortest period of time will earn a title shot against Batista at the Royal Rumble.
WWE had also been advertising a special announcement for its Continental Airlines Arena house show on Thursday. The announcement was the confirmation of earlier rumors that Summerslam 2007 will take place at the venue.
