Smackdown 15th December - (short review)

Please bear with me all. This review will be filled in as soon as possible. I was unable to view the show thanks to a power outage but am trying to obtain a copy from a friend. I'll fill in the matches more when I get the tape but have gleaned bits and pieces for the meantime. Thanks again for your patience

G'day everyone. :) Another week in wrestling has gone by and we're back to Smackdown again. It's Rudi here (rudip1@pacific.net.au) and I hope you have all been well in this lead up to the festive season! For those in the Northern Hemisphere hopefully there will be some signs for a white Christmas ahead. To those on my side of the world lets just hope for some cooler weather and a respite from the fires that have destroyed vast tracts of land and houses here.

One point of note over the week is that WWE has released Amy Zidian who up until last week was accompanying Jimmy Wang Yang to the ring and giving him her support. Reason has it she was rubbing other Divas and Stephanie McMahon up the wrong way. That hasn't been confirmed but I'm sure that we all wish her well in whatever she turns her attention to now. The question is, will they find someone else to escort Jimmy out to the ring?

    Quick recap from last week
Mr. Kennedy speaks to the crowd again about his Last Ride Match and is spooked when a Hearse backs towards the ring and out pops Undertaker
Regal/Taylor defeat London/Kendrick in a non title match with Regal stalking Ashley and Kendrick losing amongst the confusion
Cena cuts a promo about Armageddon, Batista cuts a promo about Armageddon. Cena shows much more intensity
Batista beats Finlay by DQ and then takes a beating from Finlay and Booker and noone comes out to help
Jimmy Wang Yang beats Jamie Noble and is now No. 1 contender for the Cruiserweight Title
Benoit gets slapped by Vickie Guerrero and then takes it out on Sylvan with a squash
The Miz beats Scotty 2 Hotty then has an interlude with Boogeyman
Kane plays with a pair of chestnuts in front of a Christmas tree and sings a bad carol.
Kane beats Kennedy by DQ and then we have cameos from MVP and Undertaker

The show begins with a promo by Cena in the ring who gives presents to Cole such as a big salami and a bag of nuts. This promo is cut short by Booker and Finlay who threaten to take out Cena before the music of Batista hits. Teddy Long makes a main event for the show of Finlay vs. Cena.

Match 1: Kendrick and London (with Ashley) & Jimmy Yang (without Amy) vs. Regal, Taylor and Helms
This match had by all accounts a number of fast paced action with Kendrick playing the face in peril. Regal and Taylor decide towards the end that they've had enough and walk off leaving Helms to take the beating and the eventual pin by Yang.
Kendrick and London and Yang defeated Regal, Taylor and Helms in 6 minutes.

Match 2: Matt Hardy vs. Joey Mercury
Mercury has the early control of the match but then Hardy takes over for an easy win with the Twist of Fate
Matt Hardy defeated Joey Mercury in 3 minutes

Match 3: MVP and Kennedy vs. Kane and Undertaker
By reading some early news it seems that this match had Undertaker and Kane in control for most of it before MVP and Kennedy decided to bail followed by the Brothers of Destruction. Kane takes a beating and a DDT on the ramp and then it's high jinx as Kennedy attempts to run him over in the Hearse with Undertaker appearing suddenly in the passenger seat next to him.
MVP and Kennedy and Kane and Undertaker fought to a no contest in 6 minutes

Match 4: Funaki vs. Chavo Guerrero
Chavo Guerrero has full control of this match and destroys Funaki only to be then tackled by Benoit who puts on a sharpshooter post match before staring down at Vickie who is in the ring as well.
Chavo Guerrero defeated Funaki in 3 minutes

    Match 5: Sylvan vs. Vito
In a return match for Vito who hasn't been on Smackdown for few weeks it's a bit of to and fro match with Sylvan almost getting the pin before Vito takes the pin with a roll up.
Vito defeated Sylvan in 5 minutes

We get an ugly stint with Kristal and Miz where Miz in the ring eats a number of pigs tongue and monkey's brains but can't eat worms. From below the platter out pops Boogeyman again and we get Kristal & Miz hightailing it out of there as Boogeyman does his antics.

Match 6: Finlay vs. John Cena
This match had Cena in control early before Finlay takes control. We have a comedy spot with the Lil' Bastard being thrown around eventually landing on JBL. Cena during a commercial break is thrown into the steel steps and Finlay works on the arm with Cena playing the injured arm angle. Finlay almost wins with his Celtic Cross but Cena kicks out, we have a chair introduced by Finlay who is taken out by Cena and then the match is ended with an FU. Post match Booker runs in and attacks Cena and Batista makes the post match save.
John Cena defeated Finlay in 14 minutes

Once again ya'll, sorry for this being brief until I can actually get to view the show on tape but I didn't want to let anyone down by not posting anything. Next week we'll get a post Armageddon PPV settling of the waters leading up to Christmas. Without having seen the show and just having read the spoilers and an early review of the show I don't think I have missed too much except maybe for the Cena/Finlay match at the end as the show itself was a lead in to Armageddon and setting the stage for the matches there in the most part, though dragging Vito out after a hiatus and putting him into a match with Sylvan seemed to serve no purpose at all? Catch up with you all next week for what will I promise be a review back to the usual standards I try to maintain.

    Armageddon PPV predictions
London/Kendrick vs. Regal/Taylor for the Tag Team TitleI think that Regal/Taylor will win the titles here with either London or Kendrick being forced out of the match to attend to Ashley leaving the teammate to take the beating.
Chris Benoit vs. Chavo Guerrero for the United States TitleI'm looking at Chavo to win this match and the title with interference from Vickie Guerrero.
Kane vs. MVP in an Inferno MatchKane has had a run of outs but I expect him to beat MVP in this match with maybe a post match beatdown from MVP
Gregory Helms vs. Jimmy Wang Yang for the cruiserweight title I expect Gregory Helms to retain his title in this match but only just or with a handful of tights
The Miz vs. BoogeymanI hope Miz totally buries Boogeyman and that's the last we see of him!
Undertaker vs. Mr. Kennedy in a Last Ride MatchI'm going for a Kennedy win again but with Undertaker exacting some form of revenge.
Cena/Batista vs. Booker/FinlayI'm going to go for an upset here and predict Booker/Finlay to win, with interference of some sort but the win nevertheless
