WWE Heat Recap (12.08.06)

Heat this week is a “Hot Rod” edition, as the shows segments were dedicated to the recovering Roddy Piper. All throughout the show, various WWE Superstars send their get well wishes to Piper.
Segment #1: Piper's Pit with Jimmy Snuka
Just about every self-respecting WWE fan has seen this by now, and if you haven't then I defy your WWF fandom. For the sake of argument though, let's just give a quick rundown. The segment starts off like other other Pit segment, as Piper is jacking his jaw on Snuka who wanted air time to address his fans. Piper antagonizes him by decorating the coffee table with pineapples, bananas, and coconuts. When Snuka stands up and asks if Piper is making fun of him, Piper says “No” and then blasts him in the side of the head with one of the coconuts. This sends Snuka reeling into the backdrop of the set and the whole thing collapses on top of Snuka. Piper then berates Snuka some more while whipping him with his belt before finally retreating to his dressing room when Snuka shows signs of life.
Segment #2: Roddy Piper vs. Ric Flair from MSG 1991
This is apparently the first time that this match has aired in 15 years. That's interesting at least. We join the match early in progress where Piper is laying into Flair in the corner with punches until Flair gets himm with a low blow and a right punch to knock him down. Flair follows up with his knee drop and then a headlock takedown for a series of pin attempts. Piper fights out and turns it into a backslid pin, but Flair kicks out and pokes him in the eyes.
Piper then gets tossed out of the ring, but he charges right back in. Flair dumps him again for the same result, until finally putting him on the floor on the third try. Out there, Flair works him over with chops and punches while the crowd rallies behind Hot Rod. Roddy tries to get back in the ring, but Flair clotheslines him with the top rope and then punches away some more before bringing him into the ring.
Piper suddenly rallies back with chops and right hands, even hitting a back body drop, running knee lift, and finally clotheslining Flair over the top rope to the floor. Heenan checks on Flair quickly before Piper comes out and drags Flair back into the ring. Flair begs off, but to no effect as Piper wails on him some more. Unfortunately, when Flair shoves him off the ref takes a bump. Flair tries to take advantage of the fallen ref, but Piper wraps him up in a small package. There's no count 'cause there's no ref. The ref revives and Piper goes for another pin, but gets only two.
Flair then gets whipped to the corner where he flips over to the ring apron, then gets clotheslined off the apron by Piper to the floor. With the ref still dazed, Flair brings a chair into the ring and nails Piper and makes the cover. That's only good for two and Piper starts Hulking up and catches Flair in the sleeper. Flair quickly reverses it into a backdrop suplex.
When Flair goes to the top rope, Piper predictably gets up and throws him off. Flair tries some more chops, but Piper no-sells them and gets another back body drop for his troubles. Piper then gets a chair to use on Flair, but the ref tries to grab it. With this going on, Flair gouges Piper's eyes and then school boys him for the pin with his legs in the ropes.
After the match, Piper goes ballistic and shoves the ref away before nailing Flair a few times with the chair until Flair finally tumbles to the floor and escapes.
Segment #3 - Roddy Piper vs. The Mountie
This is a rematch on SNME where Piper is the defending champion following his Royal Rumble win of the IC title. The Mountie comes to the ring with Jimmy Hart and his trusty cattle prod. Before the match officially starts, Jimmy steals the belt and hands it to Mountie. Piper goes after Mountie until Jimmy jumps him from behind. Piper no-sells it and dispatches both men to the outside. Piper throws Mountie back in, but when he tries to get back in himself, Hart holds his leg and allows Mountie to go to work.
A quick cut to later on, and Piper blocks a big splash attempt and starts rallying back against Mountie. The ref gets knocked down in the process and Piper gets a piledriver for his trouble. From there, Jimmy tosses Mountie the cattle prod. Mountie then “shocks” Piper (while holding him by the head mind you). Piper gets right up though and decks Mountie when his back is turned. Piper grabs the cattle prod, throws a protesting Jimmy Hart out of the ring, and proceeds to shock Mountie before finally pinning him.
After the match, Piper takes off his “Hot Rod” t-shirt finally to reveal a second t-shirt. He then takes that off to reveal a “Shock Proof” rubber shirt under that.
Segment #4 - Roddy Piper & The Highlanders vs. Spirit Squad
I'm not sure why the producers felt the need for this match to be included, but they did. It was only a couple of months ago since this match went down, so I don't really feel the need to recap it with any detail. It was your standard six-man tag fair with the Highlanders doing most of the bump work until Roddy gets the hot tag towards the end. Piper clears house of the three competing Squad members until Kenny starts wailing away on him. Kenny then charges him only to get tossed over the ropes. Mikey, I believe, then tries to get at Roddy. The Highlanders intervene though while Roddy distracts the ref, as Mikey gets put down by the Highlanders' double-team slingshow suplex. Piper makes the cover and gets the win.
