Here was the rundown of what happened at the Smackdown tapings tonight in a nutshell:
King Booker came down to the ring to start the show off and cut a promo in celebration of winning the champion of champions match. Theodore Long came down to the ring with camera men and had pictures taken of King Booker and even threw himself in a couple of the shots. Long announced that at Survivor Series it would be Batista vs. King Booker but tonight we would see King Booker defend the title against Bobby Lashley..and that match is right now!
1. King Booker defeated Bobby Lashley via pinfall when Sharmell distracted the ref on numerous occassions...This was a pretty back and forth match between them and had some great moments of both of them being dominant..I don't remember every detail play by play (because i'm not THAT big of a wrestling nerd) but it was a watchable match and good for both men
Backstage, MVP came into Theodore Long's office (Long promoted See No Evil being on DVD)..Basically, MVP bitched about the match last week with the Brothers of Destruction and claimed to have been in street fights easier than that...Long announced that next week on Smackdown, it will be MVP vs. Kane in a street fight..
Backstage again, Chris Benoit confonted Chavo and Vickie about the Rey situation..It was announced that Chavo would be facing Benoit at Survivor Series for the US title..Benoit made reference to the Guerrero estate as a possible reason why they had been feuding with Rey Mysterio..Both Chavo and Vickie got stunned looks on their faces when he said this and immediately changed the topic about their match at Survivor Series (hmm..interesting angle)
2. Matt Hardy/Jimmy Wang Yang defeated Gregory Helms/Sylvan via Twist of fate off of the top rope from Hardy to Helms..Lots of great tag team action in this match with all the competitors having great spots..Hardy really had a lot of hot moments at the end one of which he bulldoged Sylvan and Helms just as Helms charged at him...Be sure to catch this one it was a pretty solid match..
Mr Kennedy is shown coming to the ring
Mr Kennedy comes to the ring and cuts a promo about how Survivor Series was the creation of the Undertaker and how there has been almost a decade of destruction..I'm not positive what every word of it was but the context was basically that nothing can intimidate Kennedy and that he is going into their match at Survivor Series to kill the legend of the Undertaker...This prompts Undertaker to come out..As soon as Undertaker gets in the ring after his 2 hour entrance, Kennedy attacks him..Taker wrapped his hands around Kennedy's throat but Kennedy got a cheap kick in which caused him to break lose..Kennedy began beating Taker down with the microphone..Kennedy's "Mr Kennedy's" line was interrupted when Taker grabbed his throat again..Kennedy beat him down for at least another 2 minutes..The segment ended when Kennedy stood over top of the Taker and starred him down and ending his catch phrase by saying in a dark demented voice "Kennedy!"..Taker sat up in a pool of his own blood.
(This would be the whole reason to catch SD IMO...Beautiful work by Kennedy!)
Throughout the night, we were shown highlights leading up to the Batista/Finlay match...Some outstanding build-up as well..
3. Chris Benoit defeated KG James via Submission Cripper Crossface This was a match worth skipping but it was great to see Benoit back in action..I think this match could have done with a Chavo run in or taunting of some sort..We did not get to see Chavo in action or even make an appearance other than a backstage segment.
4. Boogeyman defeated Jobber via pinfall This match was probably just to give the 10 year olds in the audience a good pop and a good freak-out...Boogey man chewed worms up and spit it in the jobber's mouth and did his freak motion towards him taunting him..Definately a match worth taking a smoke break or going to grab a bite..
Backstage, Crystal is yelling at Miz for what happened last week..This prompts Miz to challenge Boogeyman to a match next week..
Up next: Batista vs. Finlay
5. Batista defeated Finlay via Pinfall Batista sporting a new buzz look showed some dominance early in the match...Little Bastard made an appearance and caused Batista's leg to get caught in the ropes..This prompted Finlay to work on the leg of Batista and sell it very well..Lots of back and forth action going on in this match with Batista playing the recovering giant as he battled back from his leg being tortured..King Booker ran down and attempted to get involved and Batista threw Finlay into him knocking him off of the apron to get the pinfall and win the match...
Overall, a decent show..The Kennedy/Taker segment made the entire thing worth watching being that it isn't often they make a promo where Kennedy gets the best of his opponent or leaves his opponent lying in a pool of blood..It was golden for a build-up for Survivor Series..Expect to see highlights of it everywhere..A Chavo and Tatanka appearance during each of their opponents matches would have helped to build the story line a little better but the show just seemed very rushed due to lack of time..Good show never the less and maybe it will seem better on TV (at least the Kennedy segment should).
