    Breaking The Walls Down

Hello all and welcome back to another edition of Breaking The Walls Down. I hope this column finds you well and that you (if you’re in the U.S.) are enjoying the fall weather. Time is really, really short this week as it’s crunch time for the project I’m working on. I will stay with Bits and Pieces this week only.

    Bits and Pieces

Mr. Tito has decided to call it a career for his column writing. I personally wish him the best with his future. He’s currently getting a house and also getting married. Talk about stress! I’ve had the pleasure of being in contact with him the past seven years of my column and he’s truly a nice guy. Here’s to you and your wife-to-be’s future!

Now that Mr. Tito is retiring, it makes me really sit back and think for a bit. As things continue to get busier in my personal life, I’ve questioned if I can maintain a column, as well. Truthfully, I’ve thought about it in the past, because of everything that is going on, but I’m going to keep moving forward with the column until it gets to the point where I simply don’t have the necessary time to sit down for a few hours to type a column.

The Big Show continues to be slowed by injuries, this time focusing on his back. I can understand how he’d have back problems, but to try and minimize those problems, one would think he would attempt to control his weight. It’s a well-known fact that the more weight you gain, the more strain you put on your back. The more your stomach protrudes outward, the more strain it puts on your lower back. Heck, why do you think you see pregnant women walking around pressing their palms against their lower back? Maybe if The Big Show was at the same weight he was when he was in WCW as The Giant, he’d be better off. It’s possible that wouldn’t matter because of his large size, but who knows?

Cryme Tyme is your typical tag team with one smaller, faster, more agile wrestler and the other wrestler is the taller, slower, stronger wrestler. I don’t know, I want to see them have success and be part of the tag team revitalization effort, that I hope is going on currently (The Highlanders, Crime Time, to a lesser extent The Spirit Squad), but in order to continue to build the division, more tag teams are needed. Who knows, maybe my and your wishes are being granted. Maybe we’re finally going to see resurgence in the tag team scene.

Jeff Hardy is back and he’s the new IC Champion, but it’s the same old Jeff Hardy. He’s a little heavier and clean (which is definitely good for him!), but he’s still doing the same old thing. In fact, sometimes it feels as if he’s running through a script in his mind in every match. He’s still fun to watch in the ring, but I’m concerned that fans are going to start finding his matches stale. I don’t want him to get the FMOD syndrome that Bret Hart had. The FMOD stands for the Five Moves of Doom. Every fan new what Bret was going to do before he did it. I don’t want to see that happen to Jeff.

Francine was left go by The WWE. I can’t say I’m surprised by this development, as she was never really used. Honestly, with how they used her, why did they even bring her back? What was the point? I guess it was to pull back old ECW fans, but did it really work? She wasn’t displayed in any sort of a prominent role and it leaves me seriously baffled as to why they signed her in the first place. It would have been easy enough to make her a valet for one of the wrestlers, but that wasn’t taken too seriously, apparently. Francine could have been used prominently and she could have pulled it off really well (she’s got better mic skills than some), but for whatever reason it didn’t happen.

I have to question Vince McMahon pitting all his champions against one another to find out who is “The” champion. To me that’s something that a lot of fans want to see (at least as a kid I always wanted to see that, like Hogan vs. Sting, Hart vs. Sting, etc.). While that would have worked for me when I was 12 or 14, it doesn’t work for me now. One, all these guys have faced one another already, that takes the fun out of it for me. Two, they are not in different federations, they are in different brands. That’s a big difference. To me it would be best if Vince doesn’t do such a thing, but the fact is that he’s going through with it and one has to wonder how it’s going to turn out.

It was awesome to hear The Millionaire Dolloar Man’s music play once again a few weeks back on RAW. I really do think that was one of the best theme’s The WWE ever did. In my opinion, Ted Dibiasie was one of the best heels of his day and I really wish he could have had the world title at least once. If I’m not mistaken Dibiasie has a book out and I wish I had the time to read it. He’s one of those guys who was special in the ring and was missed as soon as he left. I believe his career was brought to an end due to a neck injury. Sadly, it ended much too soon.

I have to ask this question: Does the use of scantily clad women really determine your viewership for WWE programming? Honestly, for me it doesn’t. It never did. Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind seeing it, but it never feels like it fits in with the programming and it kind of makes me sick after a while. It’s as if they are forcing it down our throats and it gets really unnerving after a while. To be honest, it simply never feels like it fits into the programming. I would much rather fill that time with a good women’s match or use it to develop more wrestlers. I know all of the hormone-driven guys out there love seeing scantily clad women, but distance yourselves for a second. Does it really fit in with the product?

Why, why, why is Kevin Federline on my T.V. when watching RAW? Why is this happening? His raps stink and he is a horrible actor. I can’t stand watching RAW when he’s on and it’s making me want to change the channel. Then, speaking of horrible acting, or, rather, questionable acting, there’s the guys from the TV show/movie Jackass. They were on RAW a week ago and I don’t know if they were purposely acting that way to be their normal jerk selves, but their horrible selling of Umanga, seemingly made Umanga want to hurt them more. Why would Vince trust these guys not to do what they did? Maybe I’m wrong and they were simply trying to act hurt and it came across all wrong, but they weren’t staying down. Seemingly that’s why Umanga went stiff on them (at least it appeared that Umanga went stiff on them).

My last column I went on about NWA-TNA and I expected some sort of defense by NWA-TNA fans. Surprisingly, I received none. I did, however, receive support in my views and that’s not a good thing for a company attempting to build itself up. They agreed with me when I spoke up earlier about it being a good idea for NWA-TNA to sign Jericho and with Jericho’s band playing at a NWA-TNA show, maybe there is something in the works. It’s unknown at this point, but NWA-TNA needs to do something and signing Kurt Angle is a good start, but that’s not the only thing necessary to jumpstart that company.

And, speaking of Kurt Angle, no big surprise on his comments regarding Triple H and his backstage power. But, what he accused Vince McMahon of saying is harsh and should be looked into. Angle accused Vince of not listening to him when Angle told Vince that his painkiller addiction may kill him and Vince told him to deal with it on the road. Vince never sent him to rehab. Those are harsh words, words I hope that are not true. It’s a shame, really, if those words are true or not, because Angle and Vince formed quite an entertaining duo. I doubt we’ll see those two together again any time soon.

Well, that will do it for this week. I know I said this last column, but we are getting really close to releasing our product for Beta testing. We are incorporating some new technology that will enable our product to run a bit faster. The drawback is that it will take a few more weeks to implement the changes and get the product out there. Since we’ll be going Beta, I don’t want to post the website URL right away, as I want us to hammer out the initial bugs with the initial Beta testers. As we release the product on Beta sites, I will most certainly post a link in this column. Anyway, I hope all of you have a safe and happy week and, as always, join me as I try to “educate people on the realness of the fakeness of professional wrestling” ©.

    Later,
    Chris Dailey
