Went to the Smackdown House show in Sacramento, CA last night at Arco Arena. Saw 2 local star players of the Kings at the event - Mike Bibby and Fransico Garcia. People pointed out 2 other Kings to me but not being 100% ready for the basketball tipoff I didnt know who they were.
1st out of the gate is Teddy Long the GM of Smackdown. Long comes out does a little dance. Tells everone the card has some changes due to No Mercy PPV and last weeks Smackdown. Announces the MVP has called Teddy Long and asked for a second chance and Teddy says he will grant it so MVP goes up against Chris Benoit for the US Title. Teddy says our other Main Events are Mr Kennedy (no US title anymore) vs Undertaker and in a three way World Title Main Event we have Finley vs. Batista vs. Booker.
Card starts with the mixed tag. Brian Kendrick, Paul London, and Ashley vs. Idol Stevens, K.C. James, and Michelle McCool. Match is very uneven in pace. Goes back and forth a lot of times but the heels are in control most of the match. The ladies dont get in the ring until the finish. Ashley and Michelle are rolling on the floor when Idol goes to pull Ashley by her hair. Brian Kendrick sunset flips Idol into a rollup and get the 1 2 and 3. Ashley is my babe of the week. My new favorite DIVA.
Elijah Burke w/ Sylvester Terkay vs. Jimmy Wang Yang Charles Robinson was the ref. He is the only one I know so I will point him out. Jimmy gets a huge pop. Everyone loves the Asian cowboy. Jimmy get the short end in this match Jimmy hits his finisher, lies down for an enternity buy Sylvester has the refs attention. Jimmy goes to get the ref and the heel get the roll up 1 2 3! Elijah wins
Vito vs William Regal Match takes for ever to start as Regal doesnt want to get near Vito's dress. Too much of the match was made up of Vito wearing a thong. In the end Vito got the win on a rollup. After the pin as Vito was making his way up the ramp, Regal jumped him and attacked him for a few good minutes. Vito finally gets up and soaks in the cheers of all the fans. Worst match of the night.
Matt Hardy vs Gregory Helms My match of the night. 2 favorite wrestlers in the ring and I love there program they have running. I dont remember these 2 ever squaring off before in the WWE. Once the 2 got in the ring it took Hardy a good 5 minutes to figure out who he was going to throw his shirt to. Matt Hardy kept on fighting off Helms' attacks and at one point hit Gregory Helms with a HURRICANE pose. I might have been the only one to get it but I popped huge for it. Matt Hardy hits a Twist of Fate after both men rolled out of each other finsihers a few times.
Chavo Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio When Chavo's music hit he got a huge POP for about a second. Then everyone remembered we were supposed to hate him and turned on him. Rey came out to a huge ovation. We have a large Mexican population here. I dont know why with all the Mysterio masks they were selling tonight, but they sent Mysterio out with a hat on. Remember the moment on the Warrior DVD when Warrior came out on Raw in a baseball hat and Vince was burying him. But I guess the E needs to make a few more $$. When the 2 were in the ring the fans started the Eddie chant. The two fought back and forth over who the crowd was chanting for. When the match finally got started Chavo beat Rey down in this match big time. He took out Rey's legs quick into the match and kept working on them in the match. Everytime Rey would knock Chavo down into the 619 position Rey would run to the ropes and collapse like his legs gave way. Rey finally got enough speed up the hit the 619 and then fallowed it up with a Frog Splash.
Intermission time. I saw Rey Mysterio sign every autograph request, take ever picture request, and give every fan at ring side a high five. Very classy.
After intermission the crown down below really filled in. I think people moved down from the cheep seats. Didn't matter to me, no one took my seat and my seat was paper anyway. Many thanks to KHTK 1140 in Sacramento for the free tickets.
MVP vs. Chris Benoit MVP came out and went for the cheep heat attacking the Sacramento Kings. Saying he wished he was in Miami to be in an arena that actually had championship banners. Was very suprised during the match as MVP was able to slip out of 4 sharp shooters and 1 crippler cross face. Was suprised they would put MVP over that way. MVP never got much offense in. Thats what I wanted to see due to only hearing about the Blue Power Ranger and not seeing him wrestle yet. Benoit went for another Crossface and MVP hit Benoit right in the beanbag. Ref calls for the bell and gave Benoit the win by DQ. About 10 seconds after the bell Benoit gives MVP the chops, climbs the top rope, and gives MVP a flying headbutt. Then he slaps the crossface on and MVP is tapping out like crazy. Didnt care for this match this much.
Ken Kennedy vs. The Undertaker Mr Kennedy comes out to a big pop. Crowd is really getting behind him. My belief is they took the US title off him to get him to job out a match to the Undertaker and be able to move up in the card to main event status on Smackdown. Kennedy takes a long time to get in the ring. Undertaker dominates this match for the most part. Undertaker hits a Chokeslam for Kennedy to pop up and be turned into the tombstone piledriver. Thats right a piledriver. 1 2 3 Undertaker wins.
Main Event Finley vs Batista vs King Booker Went to the bathroom when Queen Sharmell was on her 3rd King Booker call. Batista came out to a big pop. Probably loudest of the night. Finley and King Booker took a double team to Batista early. When Batista got thrown into the steel steps King Booker turned on Finley and they started to brawl. Batista layed out on the floor for a long time. Finley and Booker carried the match for about 5 minutes. Batista slid back in the ring and was spearing both contestants left and right. As Batista was about to hit the Batista bomb on Booker, Finley came in and hit Batista on the right leg with his shillelagh. Batista fell down like he was shot in his left leg. As Batista layed on the mat, Booker hit the Book-End on Finley and covered for the pin.
As Booker congragulated himself on his win, Batista got up and ran the heals into the back. I was suprised he never came back out. No encore no nothing that was it. Not the best show I have ever been to, close to the worst. But it was fun to see some wrestling for the 1st time in a while here in Sacramento.
