WWE Heat Results (8.26.06)
Match #1: Rob Conway vs. Shelton Benjamin
Shelton makes his entrance to the ring first, followed by Conway. Before Conway gets halfway down the ramp though, Shelton grabs the mic and calls for the music to be cut. With Conway looking on confused, Shelton rambles on about wanting competition and how Conway doesn't measure up. After Shelton makes some awkward remark about Conway needing to take out a deductable on “ass whoopin” insurance, Conway grabs Shelton's legs and drags him out of the ring where he starts wailing away on him. After throwing Shelton back into the ring and Conway climbs in after him, the bell sounds and match officially begins.
An Irish whip later, Conway hip tosses him to the mat and follows up with a standing dropkick. Shelton staggers to his feet only to be clotheslined over the top rope and back to the outside. Conway walks over after a moment to bring him back into the ring, but Shelton grabs his legs and pulls him out of the ring this time, but Conway blocks a punch and delivers one of his own before shoving Shelton back into the ring. As Conway gets onto the apron, Shelton connects with a stiff kick that sends Conway crashing back down to the floor.
Shelton joins Conway at ringside and drives the Conman's back into the side of the ring and then sends him back into the ring. Inside, Shelton delivers a sidewalk slam and then starts hitting some mounted punches. Shelton then whips Conway hard into the turnbuckles, sending Conway crahing to the mat, where Shelton goes for the cover and a two-count. As Conway drapes his neck over the middle rope, trying to get up, Shelton charges in with a running knee to the back of the head. Conway tries to rally back with a series of punches, but Shelton neutralizes him with a quick Samoan drop and another two-count.
It's resthold time, as Shelton locks in a reverse chinlock. Conway fights out of it soon enough and after being whipped into the turnbuckles again, he charges out with a clothesline on Shelton. Conway starts throwing a few more punches to build up steam, even hitting a couple more clotheslines, then whipping Shelton to the ropes and hitting a leaping back elbow. Conway measures up Shelton, as he staggers to his feet, and hits a swining neckbreaker on the former IC champion, but it's only good for a two-count. Despite a thumb to the eye from Shelton, Conway hits a big powerslam on him and makes another cover for another two-count.
Conway then whips Shelton to the corner, but Shelton leapfrogs over him as he charges in. Shelton then takes him down into a Boston Crab. After a few moments, Conway is able to grab the ropes though. Shelton whips Conway to the corner and charges in, but Conway springboards off the middle turnbuckle and hits Shelton with a leg lariat. Still, just a two-count when he makes the cover. Conway then goes for his Ego Trip, but Shelton grabs the top rope at the last second, sending Conway crashing to the mat by himself. Shelton then drops on top of him near the ropes and grabs the bottom rope for leverage out of the ref's sight and gets the three-count.
Winner – Shelton Benjamin
Match #2: Snitsky vs. Phil Friedman
Snitsky goes right to work on the Hack Meyers look-alike with a couple of clotheslines in the corner. After shoving Friedman face first to the mat, Snitsky hits the ropes and nails an elbow drop. Snitsky measures him up to end it early, as Friedman staggers to his feet in the corner. Snitsky charges in with the boot, but it looks like Friedman's timing is off and makes the move look uber-weak, yet still sells it like he got hit by a bullet. Snitsky grabs him and brings him back to his feet, scoops him up and slams him. Friedman gets up properly this time and takes the Big Boot in a much more appealing fashion with Snitsky getting a quick win.
Winner - Snitsky
Segment: John Cena/Edge Pier Brawl
Blah, blah, blah. We saw it on Raw. Lita chucks the belt in the drink, Edge and Cena brawl to the pier, Cena hurls him in, end of story.
Heat Main Event: Val Venis vs Viscera
As Val makes his entrance, Coach actually cuts some good commentary for once on the unattractive women in the arena being shot by the cameramen. Funniest thing he's said in years. Then Viscera makes his entrance with Charlie Haas accompanying him.
The bell sounds and the two former tag partners start chatting it up in the middle of the ring. It's all friendly with smiles and a handshake until Viscera lays his pimp hand across Val's face. Val ducks the following clotheslines and goes to work with a series of punches that only stagger the big man slightly. Val runs the ropes and hits a running shoulder block, but Vis just growls it off and beats his chest. Val hits another for the same effect. Val shrugs his shoulders then just pokes Vis in the eye.
Vis staggers back but shoves down Val when he tries to grab him. Val gets right back up though and punches Vis back into the corner. Val then mounts the ropes with Vis cornered and starts punching away, After ten punches, he gets back down and rallies the crowd. This gives Vis enough time to regroup and knock Val down with a forearm shot. Val then hits a huge leg drop. After some jaw-jacking, Vis picks up Val and body slams him hard to the mat, then walks over his spine. Vis then grabs a groggy Val and throws him through the ropes to where Haas is waiting on him.
With the ref distracted in the ring, Haas goes to work on Val with a slap to the face and then shoves him ribs first into the side of the ring before sending him back inside. Vis keeps working on Val, and when Val tries to fight back he gets put down with a loud Samoan drop. Vis then drops an eblow into the small of Val's back. A whip to the ropes and then a back body drop on Val.
Val finally starts fighting back with a series of right hands, but when he runs the ropes for a clothesline, Vis catches him in the ol' Bossman Slam (Black Hole Slam for you TNA fans). With Haas laughing manically outside the ring, Vis signals for the end and rolls Val onto his stomach. But when he goes for the big splash, Val grabs onto his foot and won't let go. Vis punches him off and goes for another body slam, but Val floats over and shoves Vis into the turnbuckles. Val goes for an Irish whip, but Vis blocks it and nails a short-arm clothesline on Val.
As Val tries to get to his feet in the corner, Vis stands across the ring and measures him up for an avalanche. When he charges, Val moves out of the way and school boys him for the pin. Vis kicks out at the last second though. Val goes to the middle rope and hits a flying clothesline on the big guy, then signals for the Money Shot. Haas distracts him when he climbs the ropes, however, and allows Vis to regroup and hit a rolling heel kick on Val. Vis hits the ropes, nails the big splash, and gets the 1-2-3.
Winner - Viscera
