WWE Friday Night Smackdown August 11, 2006 Nashville, Tennessee:

The Smackdown intro is shown and follows up with the pyro and fireworks.

Tonight Batista and Bobby Lashley vs. Finlay and William Regal

Also Rey Mysterio vs. Mr. Kennedy

The Great Khali's music hits and he makes his way to the ring with Daivari. Daivari does the talking. He says who does the Undertaker thinks he is. Daivari says we do not accept the last man standing match at SummerSlam. The Undertaker's music hits and he quickly makes his way to the ring (that's a first, the quickly part.) Taker throws punches and Khali fights back but Taker gets the advantage. Taker punches Daivari out of the way and chokeslams Khali! Taker celebrates his doings and poses in the ring. (This segment seemed like filler to me, just so they can have Undertaker and Khali on the show.)

They show footage of the Chavo/Rey encounter from last week with an appearance from Vicky Guerrero trying to seperate them.

Backstage Chavo and Vicky are talking. Vicky said this is ridiculous. Chavo says Rey is trying to take the Guerrero name from them. He says that he and Vicky are familia. Vicky says Rey is apart of our familia too. Chavo tells Vicky to remember Rey's last name is not Guerrero and to remember that well.

Tatanka chops Helms hard. Helms comes back with punches. Tatanka clotheslines Helms. Tatanka follows up with a bodyslam. Helms drops Tatanka face first into the turnbuckle. Helms attacks Tatanka's back and chokes him on the bottom rope. Helms nails a snapmare for two. Tatanka fights out and counters but runs into a high elbow from Helms. Helms jumps off the top rope and lands a picture perfect dropkick for two. Helms nails another snapmare and locks in an arm lock. Tatanka fights out and chops Helms. They punch away at each other back and forth with Tatanka getting the better. Tatanka back body drops Helms. Tatanka nails the tamahawk chop to the head off the top rope for another two. Helms comes back and lands a neckbreaker. Helms follows up with the shining wizard and covers. Tatanka gets his foot under the bottom rope but the referee doesn't notice it and awards Helms the match.

    Winner: Gregory Helms

Rating: 3/4 * (Ok match, but I smell rematch next week.)

Tatanka is arguing with the referee after the match about the decision.

Daivari is yelling at Teddy Long backstage. Teddy says Khali will face Undertaker in a last man standing match, not at SummerSlam but next week on Smackdown!

Later Lashley and Batista make a dream team against Finlay and Regal.

Match 2: KC James and Idol Stevens with Michelle McCool vs. WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London and Brian Kendrick (Non Title Match)

London and Idol start out. They lock up and Idol applies a headlock. London lands a drop toe hold and tags in Kendrick. They nail a double takedown. They make numerous tags to one another performing moves off the top rope focusing on Idol's arm and shoulder. Kendrick lands a crossbody for two. Idol tags in James. James lands an elbow for two. Kendrick tags London back in and both nail a double hip toss and kick James in a chest and back combo move. London moves and James runs into Idol. Idol gets back up and attacks London from behind. Idol throws London kidney first into the apron. London gets bodyslammed on James's knee. London fights back and bounces James' face unto the mat hard. London makes the tag to Kendrick who cleans house. London lands a double flying clothesline to James and Idol. Kendrick rolls up Idol but James kicks Kendrick in the head and Idol rolls through and grabs the tights for the three.

Winners: Idol Stevens and KC James

Rating: * 3/4 (Good basic tag match. Even though we've seen this method before with the heels beating the faces like The Pitbulls did at first, I still thought this was a solid match.)

Backstage Ashley Massaro is talking to Luke Perry. Kristal Marshall interrupts and steals Ashley's spotlight unto herself. Ashley says she's sick of it (I like that they use the Diva's dialogue to say how the fans feel, we're sick of it too Ashley but just of you no talentless divas with no personality and only get jobs because of two fan favorites right on your chests.) They have a staredown but Perry breaks them up and Kristal tells him to call her.

Jen England, Layla El, Milena Roucka, JT Tinney and The Miz are in the ring. Miz introduces Luke Perry. (This segment was so terrible so I'm just going to brief it.) Jen is first, she does kicks on the guy acting as a dummy and low blows him. She pours beer on her like Stone Cold does and gets booed. Next. Layla does a stripper dance and takes off her police costume and shows off her flexibility. She gets in a catfight with Jen and is cheered. Milena is next she does a snapmare on the dummy guy and locks in an arm lock. She's booed. JT is last and reads a poem. She's booed. Luke goes through the girls to see what the fans think. JT is heavily booed. Milena is heavily booed. Layla is cheered pretty loudly. Jen is heavily booed. Layla wins. Who cares. Only 5 days left of this crap!

Backstage Vicky is telling Rey that this has to stop. Vicky says this is hurting her and asks Rey to forgive Chavo and move on and be friends again. Rey said in the name of Eddie Guerrero he'll try not to fight Chavo.

Match 3: Mr. Kennedy vs. Rey Mysterio

They lock up and Kennedy sends Rey in the corner. Rey nails a hurricanrana. Kennedy counters Rey's attack and lands a high elbow knocking Rey down. Kennedy throws Rey chest first into the turnbuckle. Kennedy covers and gets a two. Kennedy applies a neck lock. Rey fights out but gets thrown into the air and dropped hard to the mat by Kennedy for another two count. Rey fights out and goes to the top rope but Kennedy pushes Rey forcing him to lose balance and fall chest first on the top turnbuckle. Kennedy goes for his finisher but Rey counters and nails a hurricanrana off the top rope.

    -Commercial-

Kennedy throws Rey to the outside. Kennedy drives Rey kidney first into the apron. Back in the ring Kennedy applies a neck vice as the crowd chants Eddie. Rey fights out and Kennedy goes for a sunset flip but Rey rolls through and nails a front dropkick to Kennedy. Rey nails a springboard crossbody for two. Rey lands a crucifix for another two. Rey lands a flipping powerbomb (awesome move) for two and three quarters. Chavo runs down as Rey was going for the 619 and gets a baseball slide from Rey for his troubles. The two fight back at one another.

    Winner: Rey Mysterio by disqualification

Rating: ** 1/4 (Good match between these two with some really nice spots like the hurricanrana off the tope rope and the powerbomb where Rey flipped in midair. Just awesome.)

They continue fighting on the outside and Vicky runs down. Chavo pushes Rey into Vicky knocking her down and out. Vicky finally comes to and pushes Chavo. She says I've had enough of this and screams at them both.

    -Commercial-

Backstage King Booker and Queen Sharmell are chatting. They talk with a royal tone. Booker says when he beats Batista it'll be his greatest defeat yet.

    Match 4: Sylvan vs. Vito

Sylvan's laughing at Vito and gets a couple of slaps for it. Vito lands a clothesline. Sylvan goes on the attack but Vito back body drops him and lands an atomic drop. Sylvan lands a sunset flip and see's up Vito's dress and screams like a girl! Sylvan flapjacks Vito on the turnbuckle. Sylvan clotheslines Vito for two. Vito fights back but Sylvan lands a cool spinebuster for another two count. Sylvan locks in a headlock but Vito fights out of it. Vito gets a back body drop by Sylvan. Sylvan misses Vito in the corner and Vito nails a huge DDT and locks in his arm lock submission with Sylvan's face in his crotch. Sylvan taps.

    Winner: Vito by submission.

Rating: 3/4 * (Ok match but I think the wrong guy won here. I personally think a guy promoting Quebec is more entertaining than a guy promoting a dress.)

    Raw rebound is shown.

Later tonight Lashley and Batista vs. Finlay and William Regal.

    -Commercial-

They show the Khali/Taker segment from the start of the show.

Match 5: Sylvester Terkay with Elijah Burke vs. Jobber (Miz look alike)

Terkay drives the Miz look alike jobber in the corner and nails a t-bone suplex. Terkay nails a belly to belly suplex and punches away at the Miz look alike. Terkay nails a spinning punch and locks in his arm lock submission hold and the referee calls for the bell as the Miz look alike is out cold.

    Winner: Sylvester Terkay by submission

Rating: 1/4 * (I'm only giving it a 1/4 * cause of the t-bone and belly to belly suplex, Terkay is still terrible. This jobber was never named so if anybody knows his name and email it to me I'd appreciate it. Only if the Miz look alike was the real Miz that would have been awesome to see Miz get destroyed then I would have given it ***** stars for sure hoorah!)

After the match Terkay holds the jobber up as Burke nails a kick to him for good measure.

Backstage Montel Vontavious Porter sucks up to Teddy Long. He has a platter full of food for Long. Porter says he is a star. Long says let's negotiate but Porter says his agent will be in touch and Porter says then Long and Smackdown will have it's MVP.

Backstage William Regal and Finlay are arguing.

Next Lashley and Batista vs. Finlay and Willam Regal.

    -Commercial-

The Boogeyman is coming back (Great. Ugh!)

The SummerSlam card is shown. (With 1 Smackdown match and about 5 Raw matches! Oh yeah 1 ECW match as well. So I guess Smackdown's in the same leauge as ECW.)

The World Heavyweight Champion King Booker and Queen Sharmell come down to do commentary for the next match.

Match 6: United States Champion Finlay and William Regal vs. Bobby Lashley and Batista

    -Commercial-

Batista spears Finlay in the corner a couple of times. Batista clotheslines Finlay and tags in Lashley. Regal tags in as well. Lashley bodyslams Regal and lands an elbow. Finlay lowbridges the ropes and Lashley goes to the outside. Finlay brings out the Little Bastard and military presses him unto Lashley and throws the little guy back under the ring. Regal and Finlay then work over Lashley for several minutes of the match focusing on his neck with headlocks and sleeperholds. Finlay clotheslines Lashley down hard. Regal tags in and kicks away at Lashley. Finlay comes back in and nails some uppercuts. Finlay throws Lashley shoulder first into the ring post. Lashley fights back and nails a belly to belly suplex on Finlay. Regal tags in and cuts Lashley off from making the tag. Regal applies a full nelson. Lashley fights out but Regal goes back on the attack. Finlay tags in. Finlay applies a headlock but Lashley counters with a back body drop and makes the hot tag to Batista. Batista cleans house and nails powerslams on both Regal and Finlay. Batista clotheslines Regal and goes for the cover but Finlay breaks it up. Lashley back body drops Finlay. Batista spears Regal and Lashley spears Finlay at the same time. Batista follows up and nails a spinebuster on Regal for the win.

    Winners: Batista and Bobby Lashley

Rating: ** 1/4 (Good main event match which involved two monsters Batista and Lashley looking strong. I would really like to see Batista vs. Bobby Lashley one day.)

Batista and Lashley celebrate as Booker looks on not knowing what he's getting himself into. Batista gets a mic and says thank you Booker for holding my title for me but at SummSlam I'm going to be needing it back. (Nicely said by Batista.) Booker and Batista have a staredown to close the show.

Overall I liked this weeks Smackdown. Since SummerSlam is upon us it brought the best out of almost everyone. Batista and Lashley make a great team and could go after the tag titles if they'd want. The main event of them vs. Regal and Finlay was a good match. Rey vs. Mr. Kennedy would be the other match I'm recommending as it was another solid match that involved the names Kennedy and Mysterio. The tag team match was a solid match with a better effort from James and Idol this week than their debut last week. London and Kendrick aren't that credible as champs and keep losing. Sylvan vs. Vito and Helms vs. Tatanka seemed like filler to me. I won't even mention Sylvester Terkay's match as it was far from special. I don't even care who you vote for in the Diva Search anymore. I used to say vote for JT but come on a freakin' poem! At least Milena did some wrestling moves.

    Overall Rating: 7

Have a good weekend! and check back on Monday for Chad Matthew's Raw report.
