Hello peeps and welcome to another Impact recap by yours truly.
This week our show opens up as always with a recap of last weeks major events. After that we see Jeremy Borash camped outside Jim Cornette’s office (figuratively speaking of course. Then the camera cuts to Eric Young who is literally camped, tent and all outside of the office of the new face of TNA management. We now cut to the Impact Zone where Socal Val just blew me a kiss. (It’s a secret code we have worked out. Hi baby)
The War Machine Rhino now enters the ring and grabs a mic. Rhino addresses both Joe and Monty Brown in a promo. He reminds us all that this match will be falls count anywhere. He then gives us all a small tour of the Impact Zone telling us all of the little places he could dispense pain to his opponents. The crowd erupts for Rhino as he continues his tour of Impact Zone when from out of nowhere he is downed by a gold shirted Monty Brown. Monty Brown says he can easily run through ‘fat boys’ like Rhino and Samoa Joe. This prompts Joe to come out from the back and Joe and Brown begin a brawl in the ring! Joe locks on a choke just as Rhino gets back in the ring and a three way brawl ensues. Before things can get too out of hand though TNA security rushes the ring and separates everyone. Ah nuts…
Our next segment is part one of a history series involving Sting and Jeff Jarrett. It recalls Stings history since he first came to TNA to tag with Christian at the beginning of the year.
We suddenly cut away from that as The Paparazzi consiting of Kevin Nash, Alex Shelley and Johnny Devine make their way to the ring. They are quickly joined by their opposition, Sonjay Dutt, Jay Lethal and Chris Sabin. During the entrance we see Brother Runt standing atop the stage area holding sign for Abyss. The match begins with Alex Shelly and Sonjay Dutt squaring off. Dutt hits a series of leg scissors and then nails a standing moonsault onto Shelley. Dutt tags out to Sabin and Shelly then rolls over and tags Kevin Nash. Nash feigns an eye injury and then tags back out as we cut to commercial. We join the match in progress as Johnny Devine and Jay Lethal do battle in the ring while Brother Runt continues to hold ominous signs for Abyss up in the rafters. Kevin Nash now enters the ruckus and quickly overpowers his opponents. Nash sets Jay Lethal on his knee in a back breaker position as Shelley hits a dropkick ot Lethals’ head. Shelley now whips Lethal into the ropes and hoists him onto the top turnbuckle. Lethal shoves him off and then comes down with a dropkick of his own.
Sonjay Dutt now comes in and opens fire on everyone, ending the flurry with a plancha onto Shelley. Chris Sabin now nails the Cradle Shock onto Johnny Devine for the pin fall as Nash looks winded and bewildered on the outside.
Your winners: Chris Sabin, Jay Lethal, and Sonjay Dutt by pinfall.
The Sting/Jarrett series continues this time detailing the history of how Jarrett used Sting’s family to lure him back into TNA. Where the hell is Christy Hemme? Dammit!
Eric Young and Jeremy Borash are still awaiting the arrival of Jim Cornette as Larry Zybisko arrives and announces that Jay Lethal has been added to the X-Division title match at Hard Justice. Cornnette now emerges from the office to handle some business with Eric Young. He stares at Larry’s wig and then returns to his office. Slick Johnson then comes out to mock Larry and the segment comes to an end.
It is now time for a second match of the night between Christopher Daniels and Homicide! They both make their way to the ring and then lock up. Daniels hits some shots on Homicide in the corner and the two of them hit several arm drags and drop kicks. Daniels strangles Homicide as a chair is thrown into the ring. This distraction allows Homicide to take the advantage. Daniels is sent to the outside where is then attacked by Konnan. He is then thrown back into the ring for a two count. Homicide now hits a series of suplexes onto Daniels culminating in a split legged slam.
Homicide now climbs to the top rope but Daniels catches him in the nick of time and throws him off. We see Brother Runt in the crowd with yet another sign as Daniels and Homicide continue their match. Homicide hits a Diamond Cutter onto Daniels for another two count. Homicide and Daniels now perch themselves on the ropes. Daniels goes for the Angles Wings but Homicide squirrels out. Daniels then applies a submission onto Homocide. Homicide taps out in plain view, but the referee is distracted by Konnan. Hernandez now runs in the ring and attack Daniels, allowing Homicide to score the pinfall on him for the win. They are about to put the Gringo Killer on Daniels as AJ Styles runs out to make the save with a chair!
Your winner: Homicide by pinfall.
The Sting/Jarrett saga now continues as we stroll down the events of Lethal Lockdown, and the entrance of Scott Steiner and Samoa Joe into this feud. We now get a voice over guy hyping up the coming segment and I am seriously considering flying to Orlando to find out what they have done with my beloved Christy!
We return to TNA as Abyss with James Mitchell approach the ring for our next Impact match up. His opponent from the ‘Deep Blue Sea’ is Sharkboy. Brother Runt now appears on the stage with a ladder and a sign that says ‘Why wait until this Sunday?’ Back in the ring Abyss easily defeats Sharkboy in under thirty seconds with the Black Hole Slam. Jimes Mitchell then grabs the mic and calls Runt a cockroach and challenges him to come down and face them. Runt then takes a death defying leap off the ladder into Abyss. The two continue their fight in the ring as Raven watches from afar. Runt clears the ring of Abyss and celebrates with his chain as we cut to another history lesson between Sting and Jarrett. This time we recap the part about the last King Of The Mountain match. Then that guy who’s not Christy announces what is up next. Commercial break ensues
The saga of Jarrett/Sting continues and we have reached the apex of the eight month journey and Sting has finally got his title shit. Eric Young is now backstage and he has some present for James E’ Cornette, including a custom made Tennis racket, some whiskey, and a bag of Wendy’s. Cornette then berates Young telling him his Tennis racket is ugly, he’s on a diet, and he can’t get drunk with all of his responsibilities these days. Cornette now exits to the left and we cut back to the Impact Zone where it is time for our main event! Scott Steiner makes his way to the ring first with sirens blazing in his custom chain link head gear. Out next comes the ‘undefeated in TNA’ Christian Cage through a cloud of Smoke Both men now face each other in the center of the ring as the match begins. In the booth Jim Cornette joins Tenay and West on commentary. (Thank you God.)
Steiner and Cage now lock up and Steiner easily overpowers Cage and throws him to the mat. They lock up again and this time Cage uses his speed and agility to gain the advantage on the much bigger Steiner. Cage jumps on Steiner in the corner but is forcefully thrown back down. Steiner lifts Cage up into a military press but Cage slips out of his grasp. Steiner now throws Cage to the outside and into a guard rail as we cut to commercial for (hopefully) the final time of the night. We return to the match as Steiner has the match won yet rolls off of Christian to do some push-ups. Steiner suplexes Cage for another two cout. Cage now comes off the ropes for a series of elbows and a flying clothesline to take down Steiner. Cage now hits an inverted falling DDT on Steiner for a two count. Steiner runs into Cage and gets tripped into the ropes. Cage now stands atop Steiner on the ropes choking him. Steiner bounces back into the match with another Suplex. Steiner then charges Cage but is rolled up and pinned for another two count. Steiner then grabs Cage and hits falling slam from the middle rope. Steiner now locks in The Recliner onto Cage. Cage bites the thumb of Steiner and escapes. Jarrett now emerges from the back and attacks Christian causing a DQ finish.
Your winner: Cage by DQ… I guess.
The lights now go out and Sting emerges to clean the ring of Steiner and Jarrett. Cage hands Sting the world title as the two men embrace inside the ring to close out the show.
Overall thoughts. Pretty solid show tonight. Lot’s of good build up for the PPV. Christian hinted at going heel in his match with Sting, although the attack and embrace afterwards leave just enough doubt in your mind to make things interesting.. All in all one of the better Impacts in recent memory.
And now for some cheap plugs!
