Heat Recap (7.28.2006)
Commentary: Todd Grisham and Jonathan Coachman
Announcing: Maria
Match #1: Viscera and Charlie Haas vs. Michael Hunter and Chris Cronus
Viscera and Haas make their way to the ring in cocky heel fashion, while their jobber opponents await them already in their corner. Vis and Haas have about the least amount of chemistry I've seen for a tag-team in a long time, but I digress.
Haas and Hunter start things off with a collar and elbow, as Haas goes behind quickly and shoves away Hunter into the ropes. Another lock-up, but Hunter goes behind this time. Haas reverses into a waistlock of his own and then lifts up Hunter to put him face down in the canvas., followed by a few forearms to the head. After releasing a rear chinlock on Hunter, Haas sends the kid to the ropes and puts him down with a jumping calf kick.
Tag to Vis, and Haas whips Hunter to the ropes again to take him down with a drop toe-hold, followed by Vis with a big leg drop. Hunter scrambles in pain to tag in Cronus, who charges in with a small flurry of offense that Vis no-sells and then takes the little guy down with a short-arm clothesline. Vis whips him into the ropes and nails him with a back elbow, then as the kid is down Vis runs to the ropes himself and rebounds with a running elbow drop
Vis goes over and tags Haas back in, who hits Cronus with a running place-kick to the back while Vis props Cronus up into a sitting position. As Vis leaves to his corner, Haas nails Cronus with another kick to the back and a knee drop to the head. In the neutral corner, Cronus tries to fight back, but Haas snares him and then takes him over with what appeared to be a kind of T-Bone suplex from a Rock Bottom starting position. Haas then locks in a standing front facelock to wear the kid down, and as Cronus tries to fight out of it he gets whipped the ropes where Haas goes for a back body drop. Cronus stops it with a kick to Haas' face and tags out to his partner, Hunter.
Hunter runs at Haas with a clothesline only to be ducked under and taken down with a German release suplex. Hunter falls into the neutral corner, propped in a sitting position. Haas tags Vis back in and then grabs Hunter out of the corner. Haas whips Hunter into his own corner where Cronus has yet to exit the ring. The two jobbers collide and are leaning against the corner, beaten. Haas then whips Vis into the two men with an avalanche, flattening the two kids. Vis grabs the dazed Hunter and picks him up into a fireman's carry, as Haas scales his corner to the top rope. Vis walks over to the corner, still carrying the kid, and Haas leaps off with a dropkick on Vis who falls back into a Samoan Drop. Vis makes the cover and gets the easy pin.
Winners: Charlie Haas and Viscera
Match #2: Torrie Wilson vs. Victoria
The two Divas lock-up and Victoria starts off with a standing headlock, then turns it into a wristlock. She then whips Torrie to the ropes, but when she goes for a side slam, Torrie reverses it into a tilt o'whirl leg scissors takedown. The blonde bombshell then locks in a wristlock of her own. Victoria tries to reach for the ropes to break the hold, but Torrie yanks her back into the middle of the ring with a jerk that sends Victoria crashing to the mat. As Victoria starts to get back to her feet against the ropes, Torrie charges in and delivers a boot the stomach that sends Vic crashing backwards to the floor below.
Vic regains her senses and her footing, but Torrie suddenly charges again and jumps through the ropes with a low dropkick to send Victoria to the floor again. Torrie then starts climbing to the top rope (Are you kidding me?), but Victoria spots it and moves around to the other side of the ringside area. Torrie comes down from the top rope, slides to the outside, and hits her with a running clothesline.
Torrie sends Victoria back into the ring and chases after her. Vic tries for a kick, but Torrie grabs her foot and spins Vic around, taking her down with a very ugly atomic drop. This must be where Victoria got injured because she's got a very noticeable limp now and the referee is making the “X” signal, as Torrie tries to whip Victoria to the ropes. Victoria hobbles to the ropes and comes back with a kick and then a clothesline. Then Victoria grabs Torrie and puts her down and out with the Widow's Peak. Nice. Three seconds later, Victoria gets her hand raised in victory.
Winner: Victoria
Match #3: Val Venis and Snitsky vs. Trevor Murdoch and Lance Cade
Remember that comment I made about Vis and Haas? Well, I may have spoke too soon, looking at Snitsky and Val. Oy. Before the match gets started, Val ducks to the outside and gives him towel to some socially depraved young lady who actually looks thankful to have received it.
Cade and Val then gets things started in the ring with Cade delivers a couple of quick elbows to Val before a lock-up. Cade then hammers away on the fallen Val, putting him down completely with a running shoulder tackle. Cade whips him to the ropes and goes for the back body drop, but Val kicks Cade's face on the rebound (the back body drop has got to be the most easily scouted move in wrestling), and then puts Cade down with a charging clothesline.
Murdoch runs into the ring to stop Val's momentum, but Val ducks the clothesline attempt and hits an atomic drop (not botched) on the redneck wrestler. Snitsky then comes into the ring and double clotheslines Cade and Murdoch, followed up by Snitsky and Val each clotheslining their opponents over the top rope to the outside. Cade and Murdoch eventually regroup at ringside, then Cade rejoins Val in the middle of the ring, meeting him with a kick to the stomach.
After hammering away on Val some more, Cade tags in Murdoch who delivers a punch to the bread basket of Val, as Cade holds him up for his partner. Murdoch then starts hitting Val's patented Irish whip/knee lift combo on the ropes, egging on the crowd, but when he goes for the Russian leg sweep, Val blocks it and elbows out of the hold. Val then returns the favor by hitting his Irish whip/knee lift combo, finishing up with the Russian leg sweep. Val then stands over Murdoch, strikes a “bump and grind” pose, and starts hammering away with some mounted punches.
After the referee admonishes Val for using a closed fist, Murdoch gets back to his feet and goes into a trademark temper tantrum with Cade trying to calm him down. Murdoch finally regains his composure, challenging Snitsky to tag in, which Snitsky obliges. Snitsky and Murdoch start to square off, but Cade distracts Snitsky by teasing a sneak attack, which allows Murdoch enough time to jump the big man from behind. Snitsky comes back with an Irish whip to the neutral corner though, and takes Murdoch down with a hip toss. The redneck gets back up only to be put down once more by a bodyslam.
Cade gets fed up and jumps into the ring, but Snitsky puts him right down with a single punch that sends Cade retreating back to his corner. Snitsky, meanwhile, hits the ropes and comes down on Murdoch with a running elbow drop and makes the cover. Murdoch gets his shoulder up at two, and distracts the big guy long enough for Cade to come in once more and put Snitsky down with a big boot to the head. Cade's the legal man now, and chokes Snitsky on the ropes. Cade and Murdoch tag frequently and double-team the big man incessantly, until Cade knocks Snitsky down with a vicious clothesline. As Snitsky staggers to his feet, Cade hits him with another big boot. This sends Snitsky reeling back into the ropes, but he comes back and hits Cade with a big boot of his own that sends both men crashing to the mat.
With both men laid out, the ref starts the count while Val and Murdoch beg for tags. Snitsky gets the tag and goes to work on Cade with elbows and clotheslines, even hitting a half-nelson slam for a two-count. Snitsky sends Murdoch to the outside with a clothesline, but when the referee tries to get Snitsky back to his corner, Murdoch climbs back into the ring. He and Cade then hit Val with their patented running clothesline/running knee clip combo, allowing Cade to make the cover and get the win.
Winners: Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch
Heat Main Event: Eugene vs. Rob Conway
Eugene waves to the crowd and hugs the referee before the match begins, while Conway looks disgusted. After the starting bell, Eugene offers to shake Conway's hand, but Conway just slaps his hand away. The two lock-up, with Rob going straight into a headlock and then turning it into a hammerlock go-behind, followed by a quick school-boy roll up. Eugene kicks out at one though.
Eugene looks a little upset at the underhanded tactic, but Conway just locks him into a wristlock and then an armbar, forcing Eugene face down into the mat. Eugene gets up though and rolls out of the wristlock and goes behind with a wristlock of his own. Conway hair pulls Eugene down to the mat and goes for an elbow drop, but Eugene rolls out of the way and goes for the wristlock again, snapping Conway's arm at the elbow several times.
Conway then reverses an Irish whip into one of his own, leapfrogging over the rebounding Eugene, but when he drops down to the mat for Eugene's next run by, Eugene stops and drops to the mat as well. When Conway looks over to Eugene to see where he went, he gets a poke to the eye for his troubles, as Eugene ducks out to ringside and does his JYD dance. Conway slides out to the ring to go after him, but Eugene climbs into the ring quickly. Then when Conway slides back into the ring, Eugene jumps back out of the ring, taunting Rob some more.
Back in the ring, Eugene ducks a clothesline and hits a reverse atomic drop on Conway. Eugene then goes for the Stone Cold Stunner, but Conway shoves him off towards the ref. Eugene stops short of colliding with the ref, and when he turns around gets taken down by Rob with a clothesline. Conway starts stomping away on Eugene, then hits him with some mounted punches. When Eugene gets back up, Conway puts him down with another clothesline, but only gets a two-count after the cover.
Dominating, Conway whips Eugene to the ropes and hits him with a back elbow and an elbow drop, but gets just another two-count. He then locks in a modified chinlock on Eugene that is quickly fought out of. When Eugene finally breaks free, he charges at Rob, only to get taken down with a powerslam. Eugene kicks out at two once again. Frustrated, Conway slams Eugene's head into a turnbuckle, which seems to only enrage the simple-minded wrestler. Rob does it again, and Eugene starts “Hulking” up. A few punches later, Eugene gets taken down suddenly with a dropkick from Conway, who goes for yet another cover... yet another two-count.
Eugene then catches Conway in an airplane spin, then goes for the Rock Bottom. Conway elbows out of it though and charges the dazed Eugene, but Eugene catches him with a spinebuster. Looking to the crowd, Eugene then goes for the People's Elbow. Conway gets to his feet though and goes for a kick to Eugene's stomach. Eugene catches his foot and hits the Stone Cold Stunner, getting the sudden win.
Winner: Eugene
