Hello everyone and welcome to another TNA Impact recap by yours truly. First off I would like to sincerely apologize for not having a TNA Victory Road recap up for everyone last week. It was not that I didn’t want to watch the show, I did. In fact I even tried to order the event from my cable company, but unfortunately they were not open since it was the weekend! Since NOBODY ever buys PPV’s on the weekend I guess. Now that I’ve got that garbage out of the way it’s time to get into the show.
The show opens up with a recap of Victory Road detailing all the various happenings at that event. They play video from all of the important matches and segments and then cut to Jeremy Borash who’s waiting outside of Sting’s locker room. Jay Lethal now suddenly comes out of Stings locker room and says that Sting doesn’t want to be bothered right now. He also says that Sting told him to go for it all and that tonight he has himself a shot at the world heavyweight title! Impact intro plays, cut to a shot of the TNA crowd in Orlando and lots of purty pyro.
Shane Douglas is first in the ring introducing The ‘Newly Franchised’ Naturals. At this point Chase Stevens and Andy Douglas make their way to the ring to join their mentor. Their opponents are introduced and they are none other than Maverick Matt ( (Michael Shane) and Frankie Kazarian. Tenay and West talk about the history and chemistry between Matt and Kazarian before the bell. The Naturals start the match off by taking the fight to Matt and Kazarian with many various double team maneuvers. Kazarian then cuts off their momentum with a quick leaping springboard leg drop and that’s the cue for our first overly long commercial interruption of the night. We are back from commercials and now it is Maverick and Frankie taking it to the naturals with double team maneuvers of their own. Frankie Kazarian hits a big corner drop kick into the face of Andy Douglas. Kazarian now tags in Maverick and flips onto Douglas. Chase Stevens now re-enters the match and now the Naturals regain control. Stevens hits a Northern Lights on Matt for a two count. Matt and Kazarian hit a combination clothesline German Suplex on Stevens. Kazarian goes for the flux capacitor but is knocked off the ropes. The Naturals now seize the opportunity and finish off Maverick for the three count. Shane Douglas re-emerges from the tunnel and physically and verbally abuses The Naturals. He admonishes them for their mediocre performance as they all return to the back.
We now have a video replay of Jeff Jarrett squirting ‘gasoline’ into Sting’s eyes during the victory Road 4-way. They then show footage of Sting emerging victorious from the match. In the back Jeremy Borash is still waiting outside Sting’s locker room to get a word with the new number one contender. Borash is then comically snuck up on by Eric Young. Eric Young thinks Borash has been avoiding him. He wants Borash to give him an idea. (About something) Borash says there is something going on at the desk. We now cut back to the announce position where Jeff Jarrett and Scott Steiner are hovering over Tenay and West. Jarrett says Sting is a con artist and that he manipulated Jay Lethal into his title shot tonight. He says Sting doesn’t want to face him at Hard Justice and then both him and Steiner make their return up the ramp. Christy Hemme now making her first appearance of the night hypes up the coming segment with RHINO! Cut to commercial.
We are back from commercial now and are treated to another backstage promo from The Paparazzi. Kevin Nash says he needs to get into the head of an X-Division star. Alex Shelley says he brought tapes from various countries including Madagascar. Nash and Shelley now analyze the tape as Nash takes notes on moves such as the ‘Double Reverse Ninja Kick’ and the ‘Rolling Log Lock’. Alex Shelley now says he is flying in some world class athletes for Kevin to train against next week. We now cut to the Impact zone where Rhino makes his entrance to a spiffy new video accompaniment. The TNA fans are still heavy into Rhino. We now start off our second match of the night. Rhino clotheslines and then GORES a young man in red tights and this match is over in what could be record time. Rhino now grabs the mic and says that when he threw out his extreme challenge that wasn’t the challenge he was looking for. Now on the entrance stage appears Samoa Joe! Joe says that he is depressed and nothing would make him happier than a good old fashioned brawl with Rhino for next week. Rhino says he doesn’t want to wait and they both charge at each other, but are quickly separated by security guards.
Jeremy Borash is now in the back conducting an interview with Brother Runt. Team 3D now joins the affair and they are in a foul mood. Brother Ray punks out Borash and then gives a verbal lecture to Brother Runt about losing. He says that he and Devon are going to be taking a break for a while. He says things in TNA haven’t been going out as well as they’d have liked. Team 3D asks Runt do them a favor and ‘be good’. Brother Ray suggests that Brother Runt go for the X Division title. Brother Runt has sly smile on his face as the segment comes to a close. Christy Hemme is now back looking gorgeous and says that up next is an interview with our world tag team champions. Commercial break ensues.
Commercial break ends. Jeremy Borash introduces the ‘former’ tag team champions AMW. AMW yells at Borash for using the word ‘former’ in their presence. Gail Kim now cuts a promo on Zerelda challenging her to a match at hard justice. AJ Styles and Fallen Angel now come out to the ring for their promo. Daniels says that they are not the undisputed champions because all the other teams resent their success. Daniels asks Styles for a way to silence the critics. AJ tells Chris to calm down and hands him envelopes containing a title shot for every single team in TNA. Konnan now stands up and accuses the ‘gringos’ of ducking LAX. He says the champs are overrated. Styles says they do indeed have contracts for LAX but Konnan is still unconvinced. Daniels now displays the contract but Konnan left his glasses at home apparently so Styles and Daniels hand deliver it right to his desk. Konnan asks for a pen to sign the contract but then promptly drops it. Hernandez and Homicide now rush the champs from out of nowhere and launch a brutal assault. They pulverize Styles and Daniels and then escort them back to the ring. Homicide hits the ‘Gringo Killer’ on AJ in the middle of the ring as Daniels is beaten to a bloody pulp on the outside. LAX then signs their contract using Christopher Daniels own blood.
Jeremy Borash is back at Sting’s door as Larry Z interrupts the segment stating he is still on the TNA committee. He says that Cornnette is doing a horrible job among other things. Referee Slick Johnson now shows up and laughs at Larry who is by the way, wearing a wig. Christy Hemme pops up and commercials overtake my screen like a plague of locusts.
A vignette for Bobby Roode airs. He says he was born to be a champion and that Team Canada held him back. He says that he is now on his own and that it is his time to shine. He runs down a list of all the current top TNA guys and reminds them all that the new face of TNA is his.
Jay Lethal now makes his way to the ring for his NWA world heavyweight title shot! Jeff Jarrett’s music erupts and he emerges from the tunnel guitar and title in tow. Jeremy Borash (who has apparently given up on his night long quest of talking to Sting) is standing in the ring for the formal introductions. Each competitor is personally introduced and the match begins! Jay Lethal gets an early advantage on Jarrett by surprising him in the corner. He then unloads on Jarrett with a flurry of lightning quick offense. The fight spills to the outside and then rapidly back to the inside. Lethal hits a flying cross body on Jarrett for a two count. The match spills to the outside again where Jarrett gains a brief advantage. Jay Lethal then connects with a Suicide Dive onto Jarrett. The match continues in the ring but on the ramp Scott Steiner appears. Jarrett now pushes Lethal ( who is moving too fast for me to even begin to name off all the moves he’s connected with) off the turnbuckle and into the guardrail as the show goes to its final (hopefully) commercial break.
We are back from the break and Jeff Jarrett is in sound control of the match. Lethal is motionless on the outside and then gets thrown back into the ring by Steiner. Jeff Jarrett hits lethal with a hard back body drop and then a dropkick to Lethal’s face. Jarrett now sets up Lethal for the Figure Four but Lethal reverses it and applies the Figure Four to Jarret! Steiner quickly breaks up the hold but is then taken out by a diving flip by Jay Lethal. Lethal then dives back into the ring and catches Jarrett. Lethal reascends the top rope and nails a diving headbutt onto Jarrett hat scores him a long two count. Jarrett goes for the Stroke but Lethal counters it. Lethal goes to the rop rope again but is met by a lead pipe from Steiner that incapacitates him long enough for Jarrett to hit a top rope Stroke onto him for the three count. Your winner and still champion; Jeff Jarrett. The dastardly heels attack Lethal but then the lights go out and Sting attacks! The Impact recap video plays but is then interrupted by Christain Cage who is going in for a post show meeting with Jim Cornette to ask if he can be in Stings corner for his upcoming match with Jarrett.
My thoughts.
I’m going to give this show a pretty solid thumbs up. There was nothing really mind blowing but there was also nothing bad going on either. The opening tag match was pretty good and probably the best match I’ve seen from The Naturals in quite some time. Shane Douglas as their coach is his usal awesome self. Team 3D seemed to be hinting at a heel turn which I’m all for. I was also pleased that Jay Lethal decided to go after the world title rather than the X Title since to do anything else would have been moronic in my humble opinion. Rhino vs. Samoa Joe is definitely something I’m looking forward to. My favorite segment of the night by far though was LAX beating down the tag champs and then signing their contract in Christopher Daniels blood. It made LAX look like legit serious contenders and I am very excited about the matches these men could have with each other. The main event was better than I expected but seemed abit rushed. Probably because Lethal was running through spots a mile a minute. In the end though I’d call it a solid B letter grade show. If you missed it this time I’d definitely encourage you to catch the replay when it comes on.
See you next week.
