Smackdown! Results 6-16-06
Welcome to Friday Night Smackdown! We kick off the show with Mike Mizanin
who gives us a rundown of the matches for tonight, including Bobby Lashley
vs King Booker as the main event. Suddenly, JBL's music hits the arena as he
comes down the ramp! It looks like the rumors of him being Smackdowns new
color commentator are true.
"I'm baaaack!" announces JBL as he seemingly rubs it in all of the fans
faces that he's not gone and that he's the new "Voice of Smackdown". We kick
off the first match, which is Champion vs Champion.
Rey Mysterio vs Gregory Helms
Non-title match
We start off the match as Helms tosses Rey to the mat with a nice arm drag,
but Mysterio comes back with a monkey flip of his own. Helms executes
another takedown as he kicks Mysterio in the gut with his boot. Soon,
Mysterio hits a Tilt-a-whirl Head Scissors on the Cruiserweight Champion,
trying to pick up momentum as he hits another Head scissors to knock Helms
out of the ring. Helms thought he was safe, but Mysterio executes a baseball
slide into his face sending him to the ground. JBL decides to try to
distract Mysterio, giving Helms the upper hand as he drops Mysterio with a
perfectly placed neckbreaker, for the nearfall. Mysterio once again trying
to get on top, Helms hits a sick spine breaker on the World Heavyweight
Champion, but Rey comes back with a Seated Senton of his own. He goes for a
619 but misses, able to avoid the Shining Wizard a moment later, finally
hitting a 619 of his own. He follows through with a Drop Da Dime to pick up
the win here tonight!
Winner - Rey Mysterio
(A nice high-flying match to start off the show, with both men in the ring
giving it their all. The top match of the night, in my opinion.)
Next, we're shown of footage from last week of Khali destroying all of the
Cruiserweights in the ring, with little effort as we come back from
commercial. We learn it's going to be Psicosis/Super Crazy vs The Great
Khali in a 2-on-1 Handicap match tonight.
Lashley vs King Booker
Non-title match
As Lashley made his way to the ring, he was ambushed by Regal and Finlay. He
tried to make a comeback, but it was a pure numbers game at this point.
Finlay drove his shilleighli (?) into Lashleys leg twice, but eventually
Hardy and Gunter Scott make their way out to save Lashley, but this match
never even started.
We find out in the locker room that Lashley still wants King Booker tonight,
no matter what. And we have Mr. Kennedy in action next!
Mr. Kennedy vs Nick Burke
Singles Match
The match starts off with Kennedy shoving Nick into the corner, and making
it think there was going to be a clean break. But no, he hits the rookie
with a cheap shot. A minute later, Mr. Kennedy hits Nick Burke with a sick
clothesline in the back of his neck, before stomping his head a few times,
then chokes Burke in the rops before delivering some more blows to his neck.
Eventually, Kennedy hits a sick neckbreaker for the win.
Winner - Mr Kennedy
(I like how they're pushing Kennedy, he's a guy with incredible talent. As
for that neckbreaker, I'm not exactly sure what it's called, but I believe
it's supposed to be his new finisher. Email me if you know the exact name.)
We go to footage of Raw this week, showing the return of DX finally! They
take on the Spirit Squad a week from this Sunday at Vengeance in a 5-on-2
Handicap match.
The Mexicools are shown in the Locker room, preparing for their match
against The Great Khali. This match is next, by the way.
Super Crazy/Psicosis vs The Great Khali
2-on-1 Handicap match
The Mexicools start the match off by trying to double team Khali, but to no
effect as Khali knocks both men down with a single headbutt. Khali delivers
a nasty clothesline to Psicosis as he tosses Super Crazy by his hair,
driving him to the mat. As Psicosis tried to climb the ropes to pick up
momentum, Kahli just effortlessly tosses him off, but Super Crazy tries to
dropkick him a few times, with no effect. The third time, Khali just shoves
him away. Psicosis had a chair, but he dropped it and ran out on Psicosis as
Kahli lifted him in a choke and dropped him for the easy win.
Winner- The Great Khali
(WWE, get in the game. This man has no talent whatsoever, he just stands
there and does his moves. I thought it hit rock bottom when they gave Mark
Henry a title shot. But this is just ridiculous.)
After the match, Daivari announces that everyone is afraid of the Great
Khali, including The Undertaker. Khali tries to say something, but I don't
understand a word of his poorly spoken English.
Next, we have a Tag Team match of Hardy/Scott vs Regal/Finlay.
Hardy/Scott vs Regal/Finlay
Tag Team Match
Scott and Finlay start off this match as Scott gets a single leg takeout on
Finlay. Soon, Finlay gets in his usual cheap shot as he makes the tag to
Regal, who gets a headlock on Scott but gets Irish Whipped into the ropes
and backdropped onto the mat. Finlay eventually gets in another tag and gets
in a headlock of his own, before going into a test of strength with Scott,
but loses it as he gets held into the corner. Hardy comes in, and gets a
legdrop on Finlay for the nearfall, then suplexes him afterwards. Finlay
feigns injury to his eye, as Regal takes advantage and knocks Hardy down
while he's not looking, but Hardy makes a comeback while hitting a bulldog
on Regal and clotheslining Finlay at the same time! Outside action, Finlay
grabs his shilleighli but misses Hardy with it as Hardy tosses the Tough
Irish bastard in the ring. Suddenly, Finlays leprechaun comes out and low
blows Hardy with the weapon During the match, Finlay and Regal make a lot
of tags to wear down the team of Hardy and Scott. Eventually, Scott hits a
german suplex on Finlay and a Belly-to-Belly on Regal, but Hardy is knocked
out of the ring and Finlay, using the shilleighli on Scott picks up the win.
Winner- Regal and Finlay
(A nice, fast paced match. Plenty of good spots in the match as I believe
this could become a decent tag team rivalry on Smackdown, which we haven't
seen much of lately.)
Afterwards, footage from See No Evil is shown as Cole mentions that it's
still dominating the box office, as the actors give their opinions on Kane.
(...When has See No Evil dominated the box office? They did better than they
thought, but nowhere near dominating.)
Sharmell and King booker are shown in their locker room, as TRL comes in and
tells them that their match against Lashley is still on tonight. Booker does
his usual complaining, but it doesn't help get him out of it.
As we come back from another series of commercials, Batistas return promo is
shown once again. I can't wait to see The Animal back in action!
Chavo's music hits as he comes out to the ring, for an interview with Cole.
He tells everyone that he IS a Guerrero, and says that if anyone can bring
him out of retirement, that the WWE fans are the ones that can do it.
Suddenly Mark Henrys music hits, as he comes out to the ring. He says,
"You're retirement was a good decision, but it's a shame that he can't show
him what The Worlds Stongest Man is all about." And starts talking trash
about Benoit, Batista, and Mysterio. This has Chavo pissed as he looks to
fight, but Henry destroys him with two Worlds Strongest Slams and a bearhug
into the ringpost.
(Just let Henry go already, he's a waste of talent with the same two moves.
What's next, is Henry going to go into an epic feud with Cole?)
Ashley is shown backstage as she runs into Michelle McCool, they have their
own words but Ashley gets the best of her with something along the lines of
"Since you know how to teach a class, maybe it would help for you to GET
some class.", Don't quote me on this, though.
Our next match is Vito in drag versus some jobber.
Vito vs Scott Bright
Singles match
Vito gets his series of attacks off, destroying the rookie. Eventually Scott
tries to make a comeback, but gets clotheslined and Vito drives his face to
the mat. Using a...unique finisher, he holds Scotts head between his legs
and holds him in an armbar for the submission.
Winner - Vito
(What a boring match, the moves were all choppy and both men seemed like
they didn't know what they were doing in the ring. An unusual finisher,
though.)
Now we're onto the main event, the rematch of Lashley and King Booker that
never officially started earlier this evening
Lashley vs King Booker (w/ Sharmell)
Non-title match
We start off with Booker trying to blindside Lashley, but he sees it coming
as he throws punches of his own. Eventually Booker gets Lashley down and
hits him with the title before the match even starts and tosses him into the
ring. Lashley then tries to pick up momentum, but Booker quickly launches a
kick into his injured leg then tries to smash Lashleys face into the
turnbuckle. Countering, Lashley gives Booker the same treatment he was about
to receive. But soon, Booker goes for that injured leg again and Scoop slams
the U.S Champion for a few nearfalls. Then we go to the dreaded commercials,
but once we come back Booker is in control. Lashley hits a tackle on Booker,
only to be rewarded with a thumb in the eye and Booker hits a beautiful back
roundhouse kick. sending Lashley to the mat. Moments later, Booker T tries
to Irish whip Lashey, but instead gets a Belly-to-Belly suplex for his
troubles as he tries to pick up momentum. But the veteran Booker pulls the
ropes down on Lashley, sending him sailing outside before getting hit with a
baseball slide. Back in the ring minutes later, Booker hits the Book End. 1,
2.....No! Only a nearfall. Booker can't even believe it. Lashley misses a
running powerslam, and gets roundhouse kicked once more, but he counters the
Scissors Kick and catches Booker T in mid-air, hitting the running powerslam
for the win!
Winner - Lashley
(I loved this match to be honest, it had such fueled intensity going through
the whole thing, that I was impressed by both wrestlers performances. If
Lashley keeps it up, he could be in contention for the World Title this time
next year.)
All in all, a fairly decent show tonight. JBL's commentary was surprisingly
entertaining and had me laughing a few times. Mysterio/Helms was a great
match as was the Lashley/King Booker match. Nice, solid storyline this week.
I'll give it a 7/10.
