Take up thy wrestling boots and walk #131 - YBTB XIII: Vacant title
Submitted by Pt2 on Monday, June 12, 2006 at 2:29 PM EST
Welcome once again to the column that spends all day working hard on the go but the hands on the clock keep spinning too slow, Take up thy wrestling boots and walk. I’m the columnist who can’t wait to get home to his baby tonight, Pt2, and for the record no, my baby doesn’t look like BG James, and I’d get a shake rattle and kneedrop if I were to even SUGGEST that she did.
Anyway, it’s been a while since I’ve been here, but my examination period is now ever, and you’ll get your TUTWBAW and your YBTB fixes much more often now. But since it has been a while, let me update you with what has gone on in the interim.
BC has forfeit the YBTB title, so with that in mind, remember that a new champion is GUARANTEED to be crowned in this column. We’ve got two young, hungry guys who are just desperate to make a name for themselves. Fortunately, despite BC’s forfeit, YBTB is healthier than ever; more people have come to me saying they want to play, and more people are playing on a regular basis, so the standard is just going up all the time.
But enough of that – I know what you want to read if your still with me after all that. You want me to get straight into YBTB XIII, Don’t you? Fair enough, I won’t delay you any longer.
First, a man who has been watching wrestling for over a decade, he has been writing wrestling scenarios for three years now. With a YBTB record of 1-2-0, and hailing from Cudahy, Wisconsin, he is Ken “Kaedon” Brzezinski!
And his opponent, he is a former LOP columns forum columnist offering the column “Quiet time”, and has written both a performed play and features a journal entry in the International Journal of Comic Art. In YBTB contests, he is currently undefeated with one win and one draw to his name. He represents Buffalo, New York, and he is Hush!
Now that my suitably long introductions are over, I’d also like to welcome back our judges for this contest – Xanman and Boss Foxx will be joining your head referee for this contest… well, it’s me this time. Pt2. Hello.
So with that out of the way, I suggest getting right on with it.
Scenario 1: Scenario 1: Book the arrival in the WWE of a tag team consisting of AJ Styles and Simon Diamond. You must give them a name, gimmick, assign them to a brand and make them a credible threat to the brands tag titles in the space of 4 shows, leading up to Summerslam.
Kaedon: Week 1: Goldust and Snitsky are taking on Cade and Murdoch to see who will be the number one contenders to the Spirit Squad. All 5 members of the SS are on the ramp watching and doing annoying cheers. During the match, the lights go out and on the screen flashes “X-trodinary, X-Plosive, X-Treme!” A giant pyro X explodes on the stage and the SS all fall down. Styles/Diamond hit the ring and take out all 4 men. The debuting team point at the SS saying they want the tag belts.
Week 2: Diamond/Styles are in the ring. They call themselves the X-Men. They say the are the worlds greatest tag team and tonight, they want The Spirit Squad. Shelton Benjamin comes out and says that when he was in the WGTT, he ran the show and he knows the X-Men couldn’t hold a candle to him. Benjamin says he’ll go to the back and get a partner and tonight, the X-Men can nut up or shut up. Haas then joins his former partner in the ring. He says tonight the WGTT should reunite and show the X-Men what tag team wrestling is all about. Benjamin agrees.
During the match, Haas accidentally hits Benjamin who walks out. AJ hits the Styles Clash and gets the win.
Week 3: The X-Men approach Vince and say that tonight they want The Spirit Squad for the Tag Titles. Vince chastises them for barging into his office, but admires them for their gumption. Vince grants the X-Men’s request and says tonight they will face Mitch and Nicky.
Despite their best efforts to cheat, Mitch and Nicky lose the match. The X-Men celebrate when they are jumped by the SS. Vince comes to the ring and gets in the face of the X-Men. Vince says he knows where the X-Men came from and he will not have some second rate wrestlers holding his tag team titles. Since The X-Men didn’t beat Kenny and Johnny, they didn’t win the tag team titles.
Week 4: Vince says tonight The X-Men will take place in a 6 team gauntlet match, and if they can survive, they will be the number one contenders. Vince adds that they will start number one in the gauntlet.
The first team to start against them is Val/Viscera. The X-Men dispatch of them quickly. Next come Cade/Murdoch. They last a little longer but eventually lose as well. Goldust/Snitsky hit the ring next. The big men dominate for a while, but the X-Men find a way to pull out a win. Mitch and Nicky come out and jump the X-Men from behind. With all 5 of the SS out there, the X-Men are beaten to a pulp, but some miscommunication leads to a quick win by the X-Men. Vince appears and says it’s not over. He says he and Shane will be the final team and the match is now ho holds barred. Vince/Shane bloody the X-Men but interference from HBK helps the X-Men win.
Hush: Week one: Theodore Long says that he thinks it’s time to show the world how great Smackdown’s tag division is. Therefore, tonight there will be a TLC match between MNM, the Hooliganz, and the Mexicools.
When TRL returns to his office, Simon Diamond is waiting for him. Diamond introduces himself, claiming to be a wrestling superagent representing the hottest commodity in the industry. Simon says that his client wants to sign with Smackdown. Long initially refuses, but ultimately agrees to sign Simon and his client as a tag team. Diamond says that Teddy just made the best decision of his life.
That night, Hooliganz win the Tag Team Titles. As they celebrate, Diamond runs out withYAJ STYLES! Diamond blasts Paul London with a briefcase as Styles delivers the Styles Clash to Brian Kendrick. Diamond grabs a mic, and introduces the crowd to “the Hired Guns.”
Week two: the Hired Guns are in the ring. Diamond claims that last week he and AJ proved their worth both to Smackdown and its sponsors. Simon claims that sales of Wrangler Jeans have shot up because AJ wore them last week. The Hooliganz come out, and Paul London challenges the Hired Guns to a match, saying that he and Kendrick want revenge. Diamond declines, saying that the fans will see himself and AJ win the belts when they pay to see it. However, he says that the Hired Guns will debut tonight against “worthy competition”
Later than night, the Hired Guns face off against Funaki and Scotty 2 Hotty. AJ wrestles the entire match while Diamond sings his praises, winning easily.
Week three: the Hired Guns are out again, as Simon claims that Styles’ unprecedented popularity has caused sponsors to flock to him. AJ simultaneously shows off his jacket, which looks like a NASCAR driver’s. The Mexicools come out for a match against the duo, as Michael Cole tells us that Teddy Long, mad about last week, has forced Diamond to start this match. The Mexicools dominate Simon, but AJ gets a tag and cleans house. The Mexicools get back the advantage, but Simon nails Psychosis with his briefcase, leading to Styles getting the win for his team.
After the match, the Hooliganz come out. Kendrick says that they will be facing the Hired Guns at Summerslam, and Simon’s briefcase won’t be enough to win the tag team titles.
Week 4: Josh Matthews interviews the Hired Guns about their match on the next PPV. Simon says that Kendrick’s comment almost cost Styles his Samsonite deal. He says that the one thing he can’t stand is to have other people cost him money, and that he’ll make the Hooliganz pay.
Later that night, the Hooliganz retain their titles with a hard fought win over MNM. Afterwards, Styles and Diamond lay the duo, and then place t-shirts with corporate logos on them. Cole decries the Diamonds crass moneygrabbing, while Tazz wonders what endorsements the Hired Guns will get if they become tag team champions.
Xan had this to say about Kaedon’s….
There's no question that RAW needs tag team help. I kind of doubt Cade and Murdoch would team up again, but I'm not going to mark you down much for that. You're supposed to make this team credible, and you do far more than that. By the time SummerSlam rolls around, they look like gods.
I, on the other hand, AM going to mark you down for re-uniting Cade and Murdoch without explanation. You will receive a 5% penalty across all judges’ cards. However, Boss Foxx said this about Hush’s work….
Okay, but that's about it. For getting AJ Styles in WWE, I would have liked to have seen more emphasis on his debut beyond a surprise run-in.
I agree, and for that you can’t be too surprised that you’ll get lower marks for this one.
Final scores (after penalty):
Xan: Hush 82% Kaedon 95%
Boss Foxx: Hush 65% Kaedon 75%
Pt2: Hush 70% Kaedon 82%.
So Kaedon wins the first scenario on all three cards. Hush will need a big win to come back in the second.
Scenario 2: TNA has achieved their biggest coup to date – it has captured the signature of defecting Kurt Angle. Angle has agreed to join on the principal that he gets to face Samoa Joe. You must propose to TNA management and Kurt Angle the general outline for the feud over the first four shows, using any member of the TNA roster and allowing the feud to only get bigger after the first four shows. This is the biggest chance TNA has had to date – do not waste it. Failure is not an option.
Hush: Week 1: As Impact draws to a close, Tenay announces that the biggest signing in TNA history is about to come to the Impact Zone. Unfamiliar entrance music begins as West wonders who the newest member of TNA is, until KURT ANGLE walks out. Tenay goes into apoplectics as Kurt grabs a mic. Angle says that he came to TNA for one man: Samoa Joe. Joe walks out, as Kurt says that Joe vs. Angle is the match that would determine beyond doubt who is the greatest wrestler in the world. Angle says that the TNA fans deserve to see this match, and challenges Joe to face him one on one. Joe accepts the challenge, as Tenay hypes “the last dream match in wrestling.”
Week 2: Mike Tenay announces that Angle and Joe will meet in two weeks, as each man wanted to see the other wrestle in person.
Later that night, Kurt Angle comes out to face Bobby Roode. Samoa Joe comes out at the beginning of the match, watching intently. Angle defeats Roode, but afterwards Team Canada attacks him. Joe immediately clears the ring, and then takes a mic, saying that he won’t allow anyone to touch Kurt until after their match..
Week 3: The next week, Samoa Joe wrestles Scott Steiner. Kurt Angle comes out to take notes. Joe wins, but is then attacked by AMW. Angle immediately takes AMW out, and says that he wants to be sure that Joe is 100% for their match, because the TNA fans deserve it.
Week 4: Although it is only 38 minutes into the show, Tenay announces that Angle vs. Joe will start now, so that they have a full twenty minutes to wrestle if need be. The match begins, and a true wrestling classic begins. At the end of the first commercial break, a contingent of the X Division is on the ramp watching. More and more TNA stars come to watch as West says that the TNA locker room wants to see this classic with their own eyes. By the final minutes of Impact, the entire roster is watching. Tenay notes that a time limit draw is about to be called. Joe reverses an Angle Slam, locks in a Kokina clutch, but Angle reverses it into a side suplex. Kurt pulls off the straps, but the ref holds him back as a time limit draw is called. Kurt, Joe, and the crowd plead for more time, but the ref explains that it simply isn=t possible. Angle gets a mic, and says that he and Joe gave the fans everything they expected except a finish, but next time they will fight to the end, and put on an even greater classic. He puts his hand out, and Joe shakes it as Tenay lauds the mutual respect of the two. Joe then pulls Angle into a short clothesline, and locks in the Kokina clutch on the ground! West says that Joe just made this personal as Impact closes!
Kaedon: Week 1: Kurt makes his TNA debut and says he is here for one person, Samoa Joe. He says he is sick and tired of all of the hype he is getting and that no one from some second rate show could beat him. Joe interrupts him from the stage. He says that Angle may be a multi-time world champ, but in TNA, he hasn’t got any victories. He says tonight Angle’s first match will be a gauntlet match, a Team Canada Gauntlet match. Angle tells Joe to bring it when from behind him comes Team Canada. They beat him down and leave him lying.
Kurt Angle makes every member of Team Canada tap out but as he is celebrating, Joe comes in and nails Angle with the Muscle Buster. Joe then covers him and tells the ref to count to 3. Joe gets up and raises his arms in victory as IMPACT goes off air.
Week 2: Kurt goes to Larry Zybisco and tells him he wants Joe tonight in a match. Larry tells Angle he doesn’t know who he thinks he is, but Angle isn’t one to be making demands. Larry tells him in TNA you need to give a little so if Angle wants Joe, tonight he has to take on Raven for him. Angle agrees and Larry then says tonight Angle gets Joe in the ring. Joe will be the special guest referee in his match .
Towards the end of the match Joe and Angle get into it and Joe puts Angle in the Angle slam, but Angle reverses it and puts Joe in the ankle lock. Just before Joe can tap, Raven hits Angle with a DDT onto a chair and Joe counts the quick 3.
Week 3: Joe is in the ring saying that he will not take on Angle at the next PPV. Joe says Angle is not worthy considering he is 1-1 in TNA and Joe is undefeated. Angle shows the footage from last week when Joe was about to tap. Joe says he would never tap. Joe then says if he wants to take him on at the PPV, tonight, Joe will get a partner and Angle can get one.
Joe is in the ring with his partner, the monster Abyss. Angle enters the arena and introduces his partner Raven! Angle says what happened last week was just business and tonight its personal. During the match, Joe vs. Angle is teased but it never happens. Angle hits Abyss with the Angle slam and gets the win.
Week 4: Angle says this Sunday he doesn’t want Joe in just any match, he wants Joe in a submission match. Jeff Jarrett enters the IMPACT zone. JJ says he calls all the shots and tonight, if Angle can beat him, he will get his match.
After a botched run-in by Joe, Angle makes JJ tap. Joe gets in and locks in a dragon sleeper. He doesn’t make Angle tap, but Angle passes out from the pain.
A great scenario answered very well on both sides. I found it fairly easy to decide though – as good as Kaedon’s is, I liked Hush’s so much more. It’s a great piece of booking, almost as good as you can expect anyone to do.
Xan agreed, saying this….
Absolutely the right way to go with this angle. This is something I'd love to watch and the locker room clearing to watch the match is an amazing touch. 100%
Final scores:
Xan: Hush 100% Kaedon 70%
Pt2: Hush 90% Kaedon 75%
Boss Foxx: Hush 65% Kaedon 70%
So Hush wins the second scenario by split decision to pull level at 1-1 going into the final scenario!
So lets get straight to the final scenario: And remember, this result of this scenario WILL result in a new YBTB champion being crowned, and if it’s anything like the last one, you won’t want to miss it……
Scenario 3: Book the face turn of Mickie James to begin a feud with Lita. You may use only the women of RAW plus new recruit Nikita in your feud. Trish Stratus will simultaneously be involved in another feud, so you may only use her once without also including Victoria IE. You may use Trish Stratus as long as Victoria is involved as an obvious opponent as many times as you want, but only one segment that includes Trish but not Victoria may be used.
Kaedon Week 1: In the back, Lita says it is time for her to get back into the title hunt. She says that no matter who wins tonight’s match between Mickie, Trish, and Victoria, she is going to take the belt from her.
During the match, Lita comes out to get a birds eye view. Lita interferes and tries to make Mickie lose, but she fights through it and retains her title. Lita gets in the ring after the match and starts beating down Mickie and gives her a DDT. Lita slaps the prone Mickie saying the title is hers. Lita gives Mickie a kiss on the lips, saying it was the kiss of death. As a final insult, Lita pulls out a pair of scissors and cuts Mickie’s hair and throws it into the crowd.
Week 2: Vince says a number one contender for the woman’s title match at the PPV needs to be determined so tonight, it will be Lita vs. Trish. The twist to this match is that it will be the first ever, women’s lumberjack match and Mickie James herself will be the referee.
Candice, Ashley, Maria, Lillian, Torrie, Nakita, Victoria, and Beth Phoenix all surround the ring. Lita keeps tossing Trish to Victoria. Victoria keeps getting a few cheap shots in before Beth and the other divas come break up the action. Lita keeps fighting with Mickie the entire match. Mickie goes for the Mick kick on Lita but misses and knocks out Trish. Lita hits the twist of fate and her moonsault. She then DEMANDS Mickie count the 3. Lita wins. Mickie gets her title and is about to leave but she gets back in the ring and tattoo’s Lita in the face. Mickie then takes a mic and tells Lita “That is how you do a kiss of death”. Mickie kisses her on the lips and tells her their match will be title vs. hair match.
Week 3: Victoria lures Mickie out of her locker room. Lita sneaks in and is about to steal the Women’s Title when Trish catches her. The 2 brawl around the locker room until Victoria comes back. While they double team Trish, Mickie comes back and the two run off with Mickie’s belt.
Because of the backstage incident, Vince books Lita/Victoria vs. Trish and Mickie. But its not just a tag team match, it’s a tag team bra and panties match.
The match ends when Lita leaves Victoria alone so she can get away with Mickie’s title belt.
Week 4: Mickie is on the ramp with a barbers chair. She sits down and says that is where Lita is going to be at the PPV and she is going to enjoy cutting her hair like Lita did to her. Lita jumps Mickie from behind and hits her with the barbers pole. Lita takes a pair of scissors and begins to hack away. Trish stops her before it gets too bad and Lita makes off with the womens title.
Hush: Week one: Beth and Maria are in the ring. Mickie James runs out, saying Beth didn’t care about her, but her new partner does. She then introduces her tag partner, LITA! Lita and Mickie make quick work of their adversaries. Afterward, Mickie gives Lita a big hug, but Lita punches her in the stomach, and drills her with a DDT. Lita laughs over the fallen James as JR wonders why Lita did that.
Week two: Mickie is sulking in her locker room when Nicole Prescott (Nikita) runs in. Mickie immediately becomes ecstatic, as Nicole explains that after she watched the last week’s RAW, she knew that Mickie needed her real best friend.
Later that night, Lita dares Nicole to a match. Prescott holds her own against until Edge blasts her with a chair, causing a DQ. Edge then applies a sleeper on Nicole, as Lita calls Mickie down to the ring. Lita gives James two choices-let herself be pinned or watch Edge break Prescott’s neck. Mickie lays down, and Lita pins her to become women’s champion. Lita then knocks James out of the ring as Edge places a chair on Nicole’s ankle. Lita says she promised not to break Prescott’s neck, but she didn’t say anything about her ankle. She then stomps on the chair as Prescotts howls in pain.
Week 3: Lita is bragging about how she became women=s champion, when Mickie hits the ring, maces Edge, and attacks Lita, who rolls out of the ring and runs away. Mickie says that Lita just took away the only person who made her feel sane, so now Lita’s going to find out just how crazy she can be.
Week 4: Lita joins JR and the King for commentary, as JR asks her how she convinced Vince to revoke Mickie James’ rematch clause. Lita says that she and Vince agree that Mickie is just too crazy to be women’s champion, so instead they made a ladder match between Trish and Victoria, with whoever grabs the contract above the ring getting the next title shot.
The match between Trish and Victoria spills outside. As they fight, Mickie enters the ring, climbs the ladder, and grabs the contract. James points to Lita as the women’s champ sits slack-jawed.
Week five: Lita comes out, and says that last week Mickie James got the better of her, but promises that it won’t happen again. She challenges Mickie to a mixed tag match against her and Edge, if James can find anyone who will tag with her.
Later, Edge and Lita are on the ring as Mickie comes out. James says that she couldn’t find someone who liked her, so she found someone who hated Edge! John Cena walks out as Edge and Lita stand shocked. The unprepared couple is quickly defeated by Mickie and the Champ. Afterwards, Mickie tells Lita that she was made when Lita hurt Nicole, but at Summerslam she’ll get even…in a steel cage!
Boss Foxx had this to say about the final scenario from Kaedon….
I liked it. It really put the Women's Division on a pedestal rather than turn it into a supporting role or backstory to something bigger.
While saying this about the effort from Hush…
Pretty good with the build up and all, but the Cena inclusion just kind of fell flat with me.
Xan also picks up on the Cena inclusion, and flags the penalty: “Neither Edge, nor Cena is a woman to the best of my knowledge.” The scenario clearly states that you may only use the women of RAW, so I have no hesitation in issuing a five percent penalty. I’m also going to issue a 5%. I’m tempted to penalise Kaedon for using Trish and Mickie teaming together, but I think you qualify it by setting them up on the same side… just. And only just.
Final scores of the final scenario (after penalty):
Xan: Hush 50% Kaedon 80%
Boss Foxx: Hush 65% Kaedon 75%
Pt2: Hush 70% Kaedon 75%
So thanks to the penalty, Kaedon wins on all three cards again, and wins the contest by two scenarios to one!
So by the power entrusted to me by the YBTB commission, I declare that Ken “Kaedon” Brzezinski is the NEW and UNDISPUTED YBTB champion of the world!
That’ll do it for this one. Thanks to both guys for competing. Congratulations go to Ken, and commiserations to Hush, a great effort and I hope he’ll keep competing and try to come back and win.
Thanks to everyone for reading. If you’d like to get involved in YBTB, please contact J-man at ybtbapplications@gmail.com, and I’ll be back with a new column soon – assume that world cup fever doesn’t completely take over and I actually manage to stop watching TV for a couple of hours.
If you want to leave feedback, my e-mail is, as always, takeupthywrestlingboots@gmail.com. Take Care, and come on England!
