Kane's See No Evil news: Weekend gross, per screen analysis, and more

See No Evil, the WWE Films horror movie featuring Kane as the slasher, did $4,350,000 at the theaters this weekend. To put a spin on this number, See No Evil was only on 1,257 screens as compared to other releases this weekend who were on over 3,700 screens.

Looking at a per-screen basis by dividing the total revenue by the total screens, See No Evil did $3,461 per screen. This is compared to two highly successful debuts at the theaters this week in The Da Vinci Code ($20,616 per screen) and Over the Hedge ($9,172 per screen). See No Evil actually defeated Mission Impossible 3 on a per-screen basis (MI 3 had a $3,193 per screen number). Keep in mind, however, that Mission Impossible 3 is in its 3rd week of release, however.

Still, it's moderate for a low budgeted horror film. At this pace, See No Evil may seek a profit at the $8 million reported budget level, but I have heard that the film cost $15 million by other reports. Given that this is the first movie put out by WWE Films and this isn't even from the federation's most popular wrestler, it could potentially be deemed a success. At the same time, the horror movie genre is suggested to have a built in audience, as most recent horror movies have turned a decent profit despite horrible reviews.
