They are Play Movie, Chapters, Bonus Footage, and Trailer. The chapters flow into each other, with only a fade to back separating them.

The movie has plenty of small New Jack scenes, interacting with others, goofing around, and random clips from his matches and promos from throughout New Jack’s career, from Smoky Mountain to his work in the Indies.

    Final Thoughts

“New Jack is scary” – A quote by some one on the New Jack: Hardcore DVD.

New Jack is a legend. A hardcore legend. His matches in ECW were bloodbaths, and crazy spotfests. Yet there was another side to New Jack. He came across as a legitimate tough guy. I still remember his promo for his feud against Angel of The Baldies, where New Jack was traveling the New York transit system hunting Angel. It was spine chilling. I got the feeling that when New Jack eventually caught up to Angel, and I knew he would, that there was going to be some big trouble. New Jack brought that kind of intensity. But New Jack did command respect. I was there in Villa Park when ECW had it’s first PPV from there. The place did go nuts when New Jack came out. I was among those standing and cheering when New Jack came out.

Yet, I knew very little about who New Jack was, other than a guy who jumped off of very high places, and brought a garbage can full of weapons to the ring. And for hitting people in the head with a Casio keyboard. I never found out how he got his start. Where he came from, or that he had a personality other than extremely aggressive and/or violent.

In Michael Moody’s previous work, 101 Reasons Not To Become a Pro Wrestler, in which New Jack made an appearance, I found out that New Jack was a pretty funny guy. In this documentary, I got to get a closer look at New Jack. He still has some funny moments, but he also has a serious side.

The lack of footage from the ECW days does hurt the documentary. It was the time when New Jack enjoyed his greatest success, and most mainstream presence. Some matches other than the Gypsy Joe one would have been nice.

The documentary is a one-man show, with a few guest appearances here and there. It’s mainly New Jack talking, and offering his opinions on various topics. That’s a plus and a minus. It’s a plus because I find New Jack very entertaining. It’s a minus because differing perspectives would enhance the subject matter, namely, New Jack. I would have liked to hear more stories from others he’s worked with about New Jack. He freely talked about his dislike and problems with others, but without a rebuttal from the targets or a third party to even confirm the stories, it tends to come across as pettiness.

In conclusion, if you're thinking this DVD is a best of New Jack compilation, you are mistaken. However, if you want an hour and half of New Jack entertaining you with stories from his past, and offering the perspective of some one who has been there, and done that, to a degree, then this is a great DVD for you.

New Jack is a great personality, and seems comfortable talking in front of a camera. New Jack also comes across as unafraid to hold anything back. He only stopped himself a few times, but it seemed as though he was thinking of how to phrase his next words, not whether they should be said or not.

New Jack: Hardcore was a highly enjoyable DVD. It’s not a must have, but it’s a worthy addition to fill out a collection.
