Just got back from the WWE house show in Cardiff Wales. The show
last about 2 1/2 hrs with a very quick 10min break.
The opened with the normal warnings and what not before Lillian Garcia came
down to a good reaction, she looked stunning as normal.
On with the show.......
Carlito vs. Matt Striker-
Good cheer for Carlito. He won a quick match with the Backcrack. Not more
than a few minutes long. No one knew Stryker's music, but he gained some
good heat by the end of the match. Carlito pinned Stryker onto the mat after
the match and spat his apple on him, before telling Cardiff it was cool.
Goldust & Snitsky vs. Cade & Murdoch. Dull average tag match. Goldust was
beaten down, before Snitsky was tagged in for the big boot to win. No one
cared about the cowboys. After the match Snitsky tried to remove Goldust's
boot, but Goldie ran away.
Big Show waddled out to a good reaction to talk to us. We were informed that
Kane had tried to remove his eye at the TV taping in London. Big show
challenged Kane, and mocked him by chanting May 19th. Disappointing match
ended with Kane hitting Show twice with the chair. Very quick and the crowd
wasn’t overly thrilled by the match.
Eugene vs. Umaga (w/ Alejandro)
Umaga squashed Eugene. Little to no offence for Eugene, the kids cheered him
a lot. We didn’t get to hear Alejandro at all, which was a shame. Silence
for Umaga's entrance, but his victory got good heat.
Ladies and gentlemen please welcome the Coach! Up to this point he the coach
had the most heat all-night. Coachman ran down Europe and its food saying
he'd lost his sprit, which lead to... The Spirit Squad. After the initial
boo's some people cheered on the SS. Coach praised them and informed us that
to warm up the new team, they'd be facing Big Vis....five on one.
Spirit Squad vs. Viscera. Another slow dragging match, which is a shame as
given the right opponent’s id love to see Kenny and Johnny really go for it.
The cheerleaders won with that the five man throwing of Viscera that’s we've
seen them use on Raw. The crowd really lost its energy in this one. Post
match The Coach ran down Vis, who got up and gave the coach the "VD" before
humping him to a surprisingly huge reaction.
Intercontinental Championship
Rob Van Dam vs. Shelton Benjamin- Good house show style match. RVD was the
most popular guy outside the main event. RVD chants all match. Shelton won
by a rollup and holding the middle rope. Nothing majority exciting, but
hopefully these two will steal the show at Backlash. Lots of RVD/ECW chants
As Benjamin tries to leave RVD calls him back, Shelton refuses but RVD grabs
him and drops the five star frog splash to send us into the break happy.
-Sending us into the admission-
Women's battle royal- Torrie,Maria,Candice,Victoria,Trish and Mickie
All the women got a good reaction, a few scattered "we want puppies" chants.
Very very quick match. Trish and Victoria were on the top rope and Mickie
pushed them to win. Afterwards Trish ran in to attack Mickie, who ran away.
Quick note- Trish was dressed as Trish, Mickie as Mickie.
Shawn Michaels & Ric Flair vs.
Edge (Lita) & "The Masterpiece" Chris Masters
Good length match. Master's held his own and looked more impressive than
previous matches. HBK and Flair got huge reactions. Edge was very over, and
it wasn’t all boo'ing that for sure.
Flair got on the microphone and talked about Lita's breasts before the
match, asking her to jiggle. She got angry and during her hissy fit jiggled
like Flair had wanted. He also said that if HBK wasn’t a "new man”, that he
would be all-over her!?!... I bet a few parents loved explaining that to
their kids.
Good match, with Flair being beaten down, before Michaels made the big save.
He pinned Masters after a superkick. Master's did the old Flair routine of
having his tights pulled down and wrestling with his backside showing.
WWE Championship Match
John Cena vs. Triple H
HHH comes out to a mix of his new song leading into his real the music. Huge
cheers for The Game, crowd went nuts for his water spit.
Cena came out next. Id say 75% boo’s, with the younger crowd cheering him
on. However once the match began the crowd booed everything Cena did. I even
saw one kid take off his Cena t-shirt to start boo'ing him. Hunter played up
to the crowd, and even got them bowing him. Long match, but the crowd was
into it. Hunter powered out of the STFU, after the dong the classic babyface
three-hand drop, before the referee got knocked down. Leading to HHH
bringing in a chair and the sledgehammer, Cena kicked out of the hammer
smash, leading the HHH punching out the second referee. Edge ran into and
speared both guys, it looked like HHH was going to win, and the crowd was
going nuts even if it was a house show. Cena got rid of Edge, before
slamming the chair into HHH's gut, one F.U later and we have a winner.
Cena's win was cheered loudly, which was odd considering it was by the same
people who had just booed him. Maybe it’s becoming the "cool" thing to do to
boo him.
Cena celebrated and was joined by all the babyface lockeroom. Flair praised
Cena, calling him the flagship and saying how everyone respected him. They
shared a beer, revealing it was in fact John Cena's birthday. Big show had
an eye patch. A few we want Vince chants. Cena said he respected people for
being who they are, saying we can boo him as long as we never stop loving
"this business". That got a massive reaction. No one was booing at this
point, maybe they'd left.
The Coach comes out and runs down Cena, before Eugene attacks him from
behind rolling him into the ring. He met by an RVD swing kick, before Cena
FU'd the coach to a big cheer. Ending the show on a high note.
Interestingly, during Cena's birthday celebration there was still very loud
RVD chants, even when he was in the background.
Cheers
