The Destination X countdown show opened with a video feature on Sting’s retirement and Jeff Jarrett’s subsequent attempts to prove he was gone for good.
Jeff Jarrett made his way to the ring with his Army. Jarrett said that he’s made a career out of reading people’s faces. He told Alex Shelley and Eric Young that their job tonight was to go find Sting and to bring him to Jarrett’s Army. Jarrett said that he would prove tonight that Sting was a quitter and Steve Borden is a liar. He said that Borden had a little over three hours to make his mark in the industry or he’ll have proven that he’s a quitter.
At ringside, Jeremy Borash plugged the return of Steve Borden as Eric Young looked around behind him, searching for Sting. Borash then previewed NWA champion Christian Cage vs. Monty Brown tonight, pitching to a video feature on the match.
Prince of Punk Shannon Moore vs. Cassidy Riley
Moore went on the attack at the bell, chopping and kicking Riley. Riley shoulderblocked him down and scored with an armdrag. He hit a standing backflip into a pinfall for a near fall. Moore backdrops Riley onto the apron, then knocked him into the guard rail. Moore stood on Riley’s throat, choking him, then scored a two count. Punk worked over Riley with an armbar. Riley tried to fire back with punches but was cut off. Punk charged but Riley cut him off with a running clothesline and a quebrada moonsault. He charged Punk in the corner but was kicked down. Punk came off the top and scored the pin.
Your winner, Prince of Punk Shannon Moore!
Mike Tenay and Don West discussed the Destination X PPV lineup. They went to a video feature on the Ultimate X match.
Backstage, Jeremy Borash interviewed Christopher Daniels. Daniels said that Ultimate X is the most innovative bout in wrestling history and the most dangerous match in TNA. He said that there are a lot of unanswered questions going into the match, but the real question is who wants to win more. Daniels said that for the last decade he’s dreamed of a place where he can do what he does best, wrestle. He said for the last three years he has fought everyone to earn where he is today in TNA and today he’s poised to be on top of TNA. He said that the only things standing in his way are the best two stars the X-Division ever produced but tonight will be his resurrection and the second coming of the Fallen Angel.
Don West introduced several members of the St. Louis Cardinals who were in attendance and asked David Eckstein what he was looking forward to. He said he wanted to see the Ultimate X and named all of the competitors by name and said he was looking for some high flying moves and great action tonight.
Elix Skipper and David Young (with Simon Diamond) vs. Shark Boy and Norman Smiley
Simon said he has a problem on the ring mic. He goes off on the Cardinals in the front row, saying they fell flat on their face in the playoffs. He asked if TNA would give them an in-ring presentation for that. Diamond said that he’s had enough of the baseball players in TNA and would be going to Tuscon, Arizona (where the White Sox have their spring training) to prove he’s the greatest two sport athlete in history.
Smiley tried to do the big wiggle on Skipper but Young attacked him. Skipper dove on Smiley on the floor. The crowd was bigtime behind Smiley. Young worked over Smiley, raking his face. Young missed a moonsault and Smiley tagged in Shark Boy. Shark worked over the Diamonds and then bit Young on the rear. Smiley scooped and slammed Young, then did the Big Wiggle. Shark was knocked off the apron and clutched his knee. Diamond hit Smiley from behind, setting up an uranage by Skipper. Young scored the pin.
Your winners, The Diamonds in the Rough!
They aired a highlight reel previewing the PPV lineup to close the pre-game show. It was well done.
The PPV aired with a, uh, different, opening video featuring a “film” titled Stung with a mime artist portraying Sting (walking like Charlie Chaplin no less) as he reenacted signature moves and poses from TNA stars, imposed with the lineup of the PPV. In the end, it turned out the mime was Eric Young, who took off the mask and was scared when the words “A Man Returns” came across the screen. I thought it was lame until the payoff was Young, who is great in his role.
Alex Shelley vs. Jay Lethal
Alex Shelley posed in front of his camcorder, including doing the Embassy sign. The crowd gave Lethal a huge reaction and chanted his name. Shelley and Lethal did some good back and forth wrestling. Don West pointed out they were the youngest members of the TNA roster. Shelley tied up Lethal on the mat. Lethal worked his way out of it and powered Shelley backwards. They ended up upside down slapping each other. They did several back and forth moves, then faced off. So far, so good. Lethal hit a good dive through the ropes on Shelley. Lethal hit a standing dropkick to Shelley, who was in a sitting position. Shelley came back with a spinning heel kick. Shelley stomped his boots on Lethal’s face. Shelley tied up Lethal in a unique submission, then pulled him down for a near fall. Lethal hit a jawbreaker but Shelley hit an enziguiri to stop Lethal’s momentum. Shelley hit a big clothesline for a near fall. Shelley missed a Quebrada, Lethal came back with a series of hiptosses and kicks. Lethal hit a neckbreaker and a fisherman’s suplex but Shelley kicked out. Lethal nearly scored the pin with La Magistral. Lethal hit a running clothesline in the corner. Lethal went on the ropes but Shelley hit an atomic drop off the ropes. Lethal hit a Dragon Suplex for a two count. Lethal hit a suplex and went to the top for a headbutt but Shellley cut him off. He went for a superplex but was shoved off. Lethal hit a diving headbutt for a two count. Lethal went for a Dragon suplex but Shelley grabbed the ropes then kicked him backwards in the gut. Shelley hit Sliced Bread #2 for the pin. Really good opener.
Your winner, Alex Shelley!
Mike Tenay and Don West discussed the Sting situation.
Jeremy Borash interviewed Team Canada. Bobby Roode said that The Naturals think Team Canada cost them a match last night at Impact but they are crazy. Scott D'Amore said the Naturals think they got screwed and said did they really think that they need to explain what screwed means to a team of Canadians? D'Amore said that tonight Petey Williams was going to prove that Canada creates the best wrestlers in the world. Alex Shelley came in and Eric Young ran off to find Sting saying he had an idea and his "Canadian Danger Sense" was going off. D'Amore put A-1 in Team Canada's match against the Naturals later.
Lance Hoyt vs. Matt Bentley
They showed footage of Bentley attacking Hoyt a few weeks back on Xplosion. Bentley tried to go right after Hoyt, who pressed him. Bentley escaped but was hit with a huge back body drop. Hoyt hit a running clothesline, sending Bentley over the ropes to the floor. They were trying to get over the “Maverick” name for Bentley. Bentley sent Traci Brooks to distract Hoyt but Hoyt was waiting for Bentley and clotheslined him. Hoyt missed a big boot but went for a chokeslam. Bentley kicked him off. Hoyt hit a powerslam for a near fall. Hoyt went for another bodydrop but Bentley kicked him when Hoyt ducked his head. Bentley got caught with a sideslam. Hoyt put Bentley on the top rope. Bentley hit a neckbreaker off the ropes but it took too long to set up and some in the crowd booed it. Bentley hit an elbowdrop and a legdrop for a near fall. Bentley choked Hoyt, using the ropes for additional leverage. Hoyt hit a one-handed flapjack. Hoyt and Bentley traded punches. Hoyt hit a running clothesline in the corner. Hoyt crotched Bentley on the ropes. He grabbed Bentley and hit a pump handle slam, but Bentley kicked out. Hoyt went for a moonsault but Bentley moved. Bentley went for a superkicked but Hoyt evaded. In the rafters, Jeremy Borash was in the rafters with Eric Young and Alex Shelley. Young said he had a great idea to find Sting and suddenly began tossing flyers down to the ring. It turned out it was a “Have You Seen This Man?” with a picture of Sting. Traci showed it to Bentley who didn’t care but was distractedm setting up Hoyt hitting a big boot for the pin.
Jeremy Borash interviewed Team 3D, Rhino, and Ron Killings. Rhino said that he’s a war machine. Brother Ray cut a great promo saying tonight was going to be a war and pointing out each member of the team and who they were gunning for. Killings did a rap and Ray quipped to Devon, “You have to teach me ebonics.”’
Team Canada’s Eric Young & Bobby Roode vs. The Naturals
Roode and Chase Stevens opened the match, with Stevens taking down Roode with a headlock. Stevens hit a standing dropkick. The Naturals double teamed Roode. Don West questioned how Young could be a help to his team when he sees Sting everywhere. Douglas hiptossed and locked an armbar on Young. The Naturals worked over Young. Douglas fired off with a series of right hands, but Roode clipped Stevens’ leg as he rebounded off the ropes. Roode tagged in and slammed Stevens into the turnbuckle. Young charged Douglas but ended up landing across the turnuckles. Young was kicked and crotched himself, and then bumped to the floor. Stevens was sent to the floor by Roode. He hit a knee off the ropes for another two count. Young brought Stevens to Canada’s corner, where Roode pulled his neck backwards over the ropes. Roode choked Stevens. Stevens began mounting a comeback with punches. Roode cut him off as Stevens went down swinging. Young tagged in and continued the assault. He did the Flair flop and was distracted by Andy Douglas. He didn’t pay attention to Stevens, who hit a springboard kick to Young. Young took a sick bump to the floor. A-1 pulled over Young to their corner, where he tagged in Roode. Andy Stevens finally made the hot tag and hit a great high DDT on Roode. He knocked Young off the apron and when Young returned, Chase Stevens tried to power Young over but it didn’t work out. Douglas tried to save it with a running kick. They lost the crowd but got them back a minute later with a tower of doom superplex where Douglas sacrificed his own partner to superplex both members of Team Canada. They went for The Natural Disaster but Eric Young cracked the Canadian flag over Chase Stevens for the pin.
Your winners, Team Canada!

Jeremy Borash was with Alex Shelley and Eric Young. They went into a bathroom, where Sting’s jacket and baseball bat were on the floor. Young grabbed it and yelled at Sting to come out of the stall because they had the place surrounded. It was AJ Styles in the stall. He hinted that they were in the bathroom together for romantic reasons and warned Shelley that his camerawork was going to get him hurt. When Styles left, Shelley told Young he could have taken Styles.
