Clarification on earlier WWE SmackDown/CW story

There seems to be a bit of confusion as it relates to how the UPN-WB merger will affect New York-area fans interested in watching WWE SmackDown.

The reason SmackDown! viewers will have to watch the show - and all CW programming - on Channel 11 instead of Channel 9 is that only the former will carry programming from the merged network. Channel 11, which carried The WB in the New York area, was part of the initially announced networks cleared to carry the new network.

The FOX-owned Channel 9 (WWOR), which currently broadcasts UPN shows, will not be included in the network clearances for The CW and will have to develop independent programming.

Although it is true that Channel 9 often preempts its schedule for Yankees baseball coverage, that fact is completely irrelevant in why viewers will be tuning in to Channel 11 to watch SmackDown next fall. The only reason that tidbit comes into play is that summer baseball games *WILL* still preempt WWE SmackDown on WWOR, since it does not move to Channel 11 until the fall.
