WWE Raw house show results from Wheeling, WV - 12/29/05

I attended the December 29th, 2005 RAW Houseshow in Wheeling, WV and haven't had time to post results. The WesBanco Arena had, what I would suggest, 4,000 to 5,000 people in the arena. Now it wasn't completely sold out, for a wrestling event might be able to pack 6,000 maximum. BUT, this event had the most floor tickets sold that I've ever seen, outside of Monday Night RAW taping that in 1998 that was 2 weeks before Wrestlemania. But this show had a dynamic buzz about it that hasn't been seen with recent WWE houseshows in that arena. No where near as many people attending the show by several thousand. The crowd was hot throughout the night.

Note: I didn't write the results down so I'm using WrestlingObserver.com's report as a reference.

Show started off with local radio/television personality Tony Summers introducing the show and then the National Anthem was held. And we were off!

Match #1: Val Venis vs. Rob Conway
Both guys were crazy over given that it was the opener. Both more than held their own. Val Venis went for the hometown pop by wearing a Wheeling Nailers jersey, though he may have disappointed several fans by not throwing that into the crowd. Pretty back and forth and awesome drama building up Val Venis's money shot, only for him to completely miss. Val, however, would recover and defeat Conway with a roll-up (I believe). I know Venis won...
    Winner: Val Venis

Match #2: Chavo Guerrero vs. Trevor Murdoch
Murdoch tried to rip on the Wheeling fans for being ignorant and hillbillies.... Curious, what is your gimmick? HUGE "Eddie" chants for Chavo. Chavo seemed a bit too fast for Murdoch, who looks a lot heavier in person. Chavo Guerrero would go on to win with the Froggy Splash.
    Winner: Chavo Guerrero

Match #3: Gene Snitsky/Tyson Tomko vs. Mike "the Miz" Mizanin/Chris Cage
Miz and Cage looked like a poor man's Rock N Roll Express and I'm talking about their wrestling style. I should have counted the amount of dropkicks they hit. They tried and tried to get over with the hot crowd, but it didn't happen. They weren't unique, unlike a certain new team later that night. A buddy of mine had ringside seats and he remarked to me the next day how sick Snitsky's back was with boils everywhere. Ewwww... Cage and Miz look very small and yeah, they were wrestling giants... but still. Their dropkicks were no match for Snitsky/Tomko, as both drilled one of the wrestlers with a hard double-big boot for the win.
    Winners: Snitsky and Tomko

Match #4: Trish Stratus vs. Victoria
Trish entered first but was attacked by Victoria as she about entered the ring. Victoria tried the Widow's peak early but Trish countered and drilled Victoria with the Trishkick for the 1, 2, 3. Very quick match, under a minute. Trish was very over with the crowd on her salutes to the crowd afterward.
    Winner: Trish Stratus

Match #5: Ken Doane vs. Viscera
Ken Doane and Mike Mondo made up the "Spirit Squad" and they were a RIOT! They were dressed up as male cheerleaders and they were drawing heat instantly with their pom-poms and airhorns. They even had a trampoline to jump on at ringside! Doane got on the mic while Mondo was flipping around the ring for each time they pointed at the crowd. HILARIOUS! Doane was encouraging the crowd to start chants, but to no avail. He started a "Give me an S-P-I-R-I-T" chant, but while he was at "R", he stopped and said "oh wait, I forgot that people from Wheeling, WV can't spell!". I was laughing for the entire time they were out there. Mondo played up the homophobic stuff with Doane, massaging and shaking the pom-pom over any hurt parts of Doane while he was wrestling Viscera. Mondo was blowing the airhorns around the ring and drawing all kinds of heat for antics. Viscera basically had to fight 2 wrestlers... he knocked out Doane and went after Mondo, tearing off his cheerleading pants and then throwing him on top of Doane for Viscera's buttfucking move. Doane then woke up and drilled Viscera (maybe with an airhorn, I forget specifically) while Viscera was distracted throwing Mondo out of the ring. The Spirit Squad drew all kinds of heat despite not being on television yet. They should be a very entertaining act once they start showing up on television.
Winner: Ken Doane of the Spirit Squad

    Match #6: Johnathan Coachman/Carlito vs. Tatanka/Shelton Benjamin
Coach and Carlito both came out on tricycles, with Coach dressed as Carlito. Coach got a lot of heat while Carlito got a mix of heat and cheers. Benjamin and Tatanka were both over, with many older fans around me being shocked that Tatanka was on the show. Most of the match was Benjamin playing "face in peril" with Carlito doing most of the beating. Coach got his shots in, but quickly ran away. Tatanka got the hot and clean house. Tatanka got the win by drilling Carlito with the stalled Samoan drop. Tatanka looked to be in decent shape, probably more bulky than when he first arrived in the WWE but not as fat as he became during his later WWE tenure.
    Winners: Tatanka and Shelton Benjamin

INTERMISSION: Free shirts were shot into the crowd. I got myself a Carlito shirt at the merchandise stand. I had to!

Match #7: Kane vs. Kurt Angle
MATCH OF THE NIGHT! Once again, these two worked well together. Angle was getting face chants for a while in the match, but soon fans were rooting on both competitors for battling it out. Angle would slap on the anklelock, but Kane would escape and drill Angle with the chokeslam (but a close 2 count). Kane would go for the clothesline but Angle ran up and did the top rope belly-to-belly suplex. That's all Angle needed and he won via pinfall.
    Winner: Kurt Angle

MAIN EVENT: Triple H/Chris Masters vs. John Cena/Ric Flair
This was the 3rd time that the main event was changed. It was Flair vs. HHH in the cage. Then, it became HHH vs. John Cena. However, it ended up being this tag match. No complaints, for it was a well worked tag bout. Some solid oldschool psychology between the two tag teams. Cena and HHH only wrestled for a few brief moments, for Chris Masters did the majority of the wrestling on John Cena. Flair was chopping the crap out of HHH all night long with loud "whooooo" chants. Flair even nutted HHH about 4 times in a row for sheer entertainment. The match ended with Chris Masters falling victim to the FU drop.
Winners: Ric Flair and John Cena

After the match, the wrestlers ribbed the ring announcer because it was his birthday. There was a cake stashed under the ring and let's just say the announcer ate a lot of it without wanting to. Funny stuff and heels and faces joined together to torture the poor guy for his birthday.

One of the best WWE houseshows I've seen in years.
