The Smackdown! Report (11/04/05): MNM vs. Eddie and Batista for the tag team titles
Submitted by Chad Matthews on Friday, November 4, 2005 at 4:00 PM EST
My apologies, loyal readers, but tonight's report is abbreviated and derived solely from spoilers...my grandmother is in the hospital and as I sit here writing this at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, I just don't think watching SD is in the cards for me tonight...
MNM arrived at the Staples Center...TRL told them they'd be defending against Guerrero and Batista.
Rey Mysterio and Matt Hardy defeated Christian and JBL - Hardcore Holly was the special referee and the finish came when Christian fell victim to an Alabama Slam from Holly, the 619 from Mysterio, and the Twist of Fate from Hardy. Hardy pinned Christian for the win. (CMV1 note- farewell to Christian...I will personally miss seeing him perform every week and find it disappointing that the main-event push he was poised to receive at the beginning of the year never panned out).
Booker T retained the United States title against Chris Benoit via count-out - Before the match, Book (w/ Sharmell) gloated about how he'd played the fans for fools with his charade of pretending not to know that Sharmell was helping him cheat. TRL then came out and made a title rematch...Benoit had Booker in the Crossface, but Book escaped under the ropes and walked out on the match.
Roddy Piper defeated Cowboy Bob Orton via DQ when Randy Orton interfered and hit Piper with the RKO - Piper had Cowboy in the sleeper, but then Randy interfered. After the match, Orton talked about how he killed the Deadman.
Bobby Lashley defeated Nunzio and Big Vito in a handicap match - Lashley won with his Dominator-like finisher.
Eric Bischoff arrived and the Boogeyman gave him a warm welcome...he eventually came down to the ring and issued a challenge to Teddy Long and the SD brand to come up with 5 of their best superstars to face 5 of Bisch's best Raw superstars in a classic elimination Style match at the Survivor Series. (CMV1 note- excellent). Teddy Long accepted on behalf of his superstars and challenge Bischoff to a one-on-one match...Bisch accepted (CMV1 note- WHAT?!!?! Who the Hell wants to see that bullshit? Email me if you actually want to see 5 minutes of two non-wrestling talents, one of which is getting really old, have a trainwreck of a match that I perceive no one will care about)
Ken Kennedy defeated Scotty 2 Hotty with the Green Bay Plunge kick ass finisher
MNM retained the tag team titles against Batista and Eddie Guerrero - The finish came when Mercury laid out Guerrero with brass knucks and pinned him with a roll-up.
All in all...doesn't sound like I missed much...please let me know if that is an incorrect assumption...
This week in Smackdown history... John Cena turned face and ended a very entertaining run as the heel rap star wannabe. I picked this moment because, at the time, everyone was jumping onto the John Cena bandwagon and making the WWE turn him face. Now, it seems as if the tide is turning and the fans may very well force the WWE to turn Cena back to the dark side.
