Lex Luger, Trish Stratus and Tenay On The LAW Recap
Submitted by Daniel Pena on Monday, September 26, 2005 at 6:38 PM EST

THE LAW AIRS EVERY SUNDAY NIGHT AT 11PM EST ACROSS CANADA ON FIGHT NETWORK RADIO AND CAN BE HEARD ONLINE AT www.liveaudiowrestling.com WITH YOUR HOSTS DAN “THE MOUTH” LOVRANSKI AND JASON AGNEW

    MIKE TENAY

*Mike notes how much he loves Toronto and the respect the media always gives pro wrestling in Canada.

*The LAW played a clip off the top from “Unbreakable” where Tenay and West were running down Waltman on the PPV. Tenay noted that they were expecting Waltman to come to the PPV. Waltman called that night to say he was on his way. He stopped answering his cell phone that night and no one heard from him the following week. Tenay notes that Waltman had not signed a contract but an offer was on the table and that there is currently no status with TNA and Sean Waltman.

*Tenay plugs the debut of “Impact” next Saturday night. He says he wasn’t the most optimistic person when the Spike TV deal was signed but has been blown away with how much Spike has gotten behind the TNA product and promoted them. He noted that 8 executives were backstage at “Unbreakable”. He feels if you are a wrestling fan, you couldn’t wish for a better time for the business with a legitimate alternative. Tenay feels if you don’t know about the TNA product, you would want to seek out a alternative to the WWE and noting how big the business got when the WWE and WCW were at their peak in the late 90’s.

*Dan Lovranski questions the use of Kevin Nash and how he represents everything TNA should be trying to get away from. Tenay feels you need some recognizable names with an H.Q factor and appeal to fans unfamiliar with the TNA product while the meat and potatoes of the company will be the X division as evidenced with the main event of “Unbreakable”.

*Tenay states history shows the best mix is to have big names and strong talent underneath to appeal to both the casual and hardcore viewer. Tenay said the current creative team has the utmost respect for the X division as well as the entire roster.

*Lovranski states that he worries about Nash with the effect he had on WCW and doesn’t want to see guys like Nash overshadow the strong aspects of TNA. Tenay responds stating that if you look at “Bound for Glory” with Daniels Vs Styles, Liger Vs Samoa Joe and the Ultimate X Match that you can see where the direction is going and where TNA wants to place their focus.

*Tenay said that Tito Ortiz will be on the first two “Impact” shows and to will be slotted into the “Bound for Glory” PPV. Tenay feels it makes total sense to use Ortiz with the heavy emphasis on UFC on Spike TV and pick up the “Ultimate Fighter” audience. Tenay says that there have been discussions about bringing in Ken Shamrock as well.

*When discussing being a part of the booking team, Tenay says he’s always been a fan and says how he looks at the talent and challenges himself to make as strong a card as possible with the roster. He notes he was frustrated with the Sean Waltman situation because he really backed the program with Waltman and Jerry Lynn after Waltman’s strong performance at “Hard Justice” against Raven and reopened the eyes of TNA to Waltman.

    TRISH STRATUS

*Trish discusses her back injury where she had a herniated disc in her L4 and L5 of her back. She said she couldn’t have normal workouts and nothing was improving. Once she incorporated yoga into her program and suddenly she had no pain at all and her back feels even stronger.

*She said along with her ankle injury in 2001 this had been the biggest injury of her career.

*She enjoyed the time off to sit back and enjoy the show as a fan and appreciate the product.

*Coming back as a babyface was a decision by the reaction of the fans at the house shows in the last month. She noted how whenever someone leaves for a long time that they are going to get a babyface pop.

*Jason Agnew asked about the transition to a babyface and how Randy Orton really fell when making the switch. Trish feels it’s a case of being entertaining and working with the right people and it’s a challenge to her with the fans ultimately deciding. She stated the change has to come across as “real” as opposed to a forced turn.

*In terms of working with women such as Torrie Wilson and Ashley, who aren’t trained workers, she feels the bulk of the work in those matches will be between Trish and Victoria.

*Jason asks after the feud with Victoria, what’s next with Jazz, Gail Kim and Molly gone? Trish says she doesn’t know, she’s only focusing on the present and during her time off she stepped out of the box and looked at her career outside of wrestling and started seeing other options. During her time off she realized how much she gave up in the last 5-years.

*When asked about options outside of wrestling, Trish said she still has a lot to do in the wrestling industry and wants to have a babyface run right now and has enjoyed doing comedy shows like “Second City” in Toronto and taking opportunities outside of wrestling.

    LEX LUGER

*Lex Luger joins the show to promote the upcoming AWE show on October 8th in Winnipeg. (http://www.aweheat.com)

*Luger notes his health is great despite internet rumors about how he is doing. He says he’s in as great shape as ever.

*When asked about the last few years including the death of Elizabeth Huelette, he says is a very private person as was Elizabeth and that it’s been very mentally tough. He says the real story has never been told and he wants to be private about that issue out of respect to Elizabeth’s family. He says if he could change places with her he would have and misses her.

*He says he was in a bad marriage before that and hung in for his children. He lived a lifestyle that wasn’t the best on the road but doesn’t blame wrestling for his bad decisions.

*He notes how he was around tons of celebrities and sports figures and partying with major celebrities on the road and the experience was fun but very heavy and led to a number of problems later in life.

*He says he blames no one but himself and wants to talk to youngsters about how he did things wrong.

*When asked about Chris Masters in the WWE, who has a very similar gimmick to Luger’s, he says he hasn’t seen WWE in a longtime with so much he’s been dealing with.

*He said he only heard about the Legends program a few days ago and knows very little about it but has not been contacted by the WWE about it. Luger says over the last while there was no way for WWE to get a hold of him, he had no phone numbers and was distancing himself from wrestling and is now getting back into wrestling.

*He said that along with Bill Goldberg, he had a long contract with Time Warner and got time off, he said though he would rather perform and earn his money.

*He says the current guys work really hard and respects them.

*Dan Lovranski finishes off asking about the infamous Cage Match with Bruiser Brody in Florida where Brody started no selling for Luger. He said he was scared to death and walked to the back. After the match he asked if he did something wrong and Brody said “No” and that Brody was going to Dallas as a babyface and that since Luger was going to Crockett he wasn’t going to work with him but that Luger never did anything wrong. Luger just felt it was a lesson to learn as a youngster in the industry.
