Backstage WWE reaction to Spike TV airing an ad for TNA

With reports revealing that Vince McMahon was upset with a UFC commercial that aired during RAW, one certainly could not have expected McMahon to appreciate last night's commencement of the TNA ad campaign. One would be right in such a hypothesis.

While WWE officials understood why Spike TV ran the ad, the company resented what appeared to be Spike TV trying to trade off its audience. As is true of most industries, companies don't often enjoy witnessing their hard work utilized in a way that puts over a potential competitor.

Some are of the impression that WWE officials knew about Spike's plans to air the ad and booked the Hardy/Edge match to counteract its potential effect.

For what it's worth, a number of wrestlers were said to be very happy with Spike TV's decision to begin promoting TNA. Since many believe increased competition leads to increased quality, there are some hoping that TNA does well enough that WWE feels pressured to greatly improve its product.
