Breaking The Walls Down - A Two Fold Question Submitted by Chris Dailey on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at 5:46 PM EST
Breaking The Walls Down
Hello all and welcome to another edition of Breaking The Walls Down. Following last week’s column, I received some very nice e-mails detailing why he/she enjoyed ECW. More on this, in the column. For now, let’s get to Bits and Pieces.
Bits and Pieces
So Kevin Kelly has lowered himself to bashing various wrestlers and Vince McMahon over the Internet. Isn’t this the guy that The Rock called “Hermy”? Why do I care what Kevin Kelly has to say about The WWE? I do admit that I glanced over what he had to say, but found myself becoming more and more disinterested. He stated that Matt Hardy should stay off his computer and stop posting what’s happened. Yet, in the same breath, Kelly suggests that The WWE should have found a way to make money off of that whole angle (which, they sort of are). Anyone see the contradiction there? Hardy is venting on the Internet, I won’t disagree there, but he’s also building heat for himself (both good and bad) towards his inevitable return, most likely with The NWA-TNA. I say good for Matt, because he did get the raw end of the deal completely. Kelly has not done a thing to make me interested in what he’s been doing since leaving The WWE (not that I cared what he was doing when he was in The WWE to begin with).
So one of Jerry Lawler’s sons was arrested for breaking and entering into someone’s home. He claims it’s a case of mistaken identity. Come on, people, there has to be fingerprints at the scene of the reported crime. DNA evidence, such as fingerprints, is awfully hard to ignore. Lawler’s son (not Brian, from what I recall) claims to have an alibi. Does Lawler (meaning Jerry) ever have any thing positive happen lately?
Plain and simple, Victoria looked awesome last night on RAW. She definitely looked hot. But, she’s almost like that lady on the Seinfeld episode where, depending on the light, she either looks hot or hideous. Victoria never, ever looks hideous, but she definitely has her good days and her bad days. Last night was the best night for her, as far as looks are concerned, that I’ve ever seen.
I went to bed on Saturday night and tried to watch NWA-TNA. I don’t know, but it’s not holding my attention much at all. Maybe it’s the time that it’s on, that definitely could be a factor. I don’t know, but it’s rare that The NWA-TNA keeps me interested anymore. Perhaps the reported move to Monday nights will be a good thing? But, that move to WGN could prove to be a problem for most fans. To be honest, I’m not sure what channel WGN is in my area. I think it’s channel 18, but I’m not sure. This is something to be monitored closely, as ratings could stay the same or drop from what they are on Saturday nights. I would be surprised if they actually went up after the first few weeks of the switch.
Batista looks great as The RAW brand World Champion. The crowd loves him and if he keeps up this brutal nature, I’d definitely be drawn in more to the character. He’s very impressive both inside and outside the ring. His mic work is improving, but for now his in-ring work gets him by. There will be a time where his mic work will be crutial, but that time should be far off. For now, he definitely fits the part as World Champion. I like him a ton more as World Champion than anyone else in the brand at the moment. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see Benoit or Jericho as World Champion, but Batista is definitely impressive.
And now, onto the column.
A Two Fold Question
First, I want to say that I am a bit under the weather this week, as the doctor has diagnosed me with having a staph infection. He didn't sound too concerned, but he said I need to be monitored so this doesn't take a really bad turn. So, this column will be short this week, as I don't have much energy right now. Last week I went off on ECW. It’s no big secret that I am a huge ECW mark. But, what is your opinion? That’s what this column is about. Send me your thoughts on the following two questions:
1.) What is your favorite moment in ECW? This can be anything, a match, interview, before an event, after an event, seeing a wrestler/non-wrestler related to ECW outside of the arena, anything. Send it to me and I’ll post it in my next column.
2.) It’s put up or shut up time. Here’s the big question. Will The ECW PPV be successful? By successful, I mean great matches and a very entertaining card overall.
These two questions will be reposted in my column with your (the reader’s of this column) feedback two days after the PPV airs. Everyone can always say I knew it would be this way or that way, well, I want the proof before the event. We have just about as much as information as we’re going to get before the PPV, so now’s a good as time as any. Send me your opinions. As for mine, here it is.
My opinion is that the PPV will actually be quite successful and very well could lead into a second PPV sometime in the future (possibly a PPV every six months or so). I think there will be several excellent matches and several brutal matches. This is going to be the final farewell ECW never had, but truly deserved. Sit back, grab your preferred beverage and snack, and enjoy! This is going to be incredible!
