WWE SmackDown! Results - March 31, 2005
We skip the credits this week and start the show with Eddie Guerrero riding out in his lowrider. Tazz is absent this week due to the death of his father. My condolences Tazz. In his place we have Jerry Lawler.

Lockup, chain wrestling, Danny forces Eddie down and gets a cover for 1. Danny taunts Eddie, then pushes him, Eddie responds with a poke to the eye, then slams Dannys head into the turnbuckle. Eddie forces Danny into the corner, and hits starts the 10 punches. Doug tries to interfere, but Eddie jumps off and hits him with the tenth punch. Eddie hits the 3 amigos, but Doug pulls Eddie out of the ring before he can go for the Frog Splash. Doug pounds on Eddie before tossing him back into the ring. Rey Mysterio runs out to help Eddie, but Doug flips Rey over him, into Eddie, who Danny rolls up and gets the win.
WINNER: DANNY BASHAM
Rey comes in the ring and apologizes to an angry Latino Heat. Eddie seems to accept the apology and both men leave the ring.
In Teddy Longs office JBL and Teddy are arguing about last week. Teddy accuses JBL of losing control last week, but JBL says if he had lost control he would have taken out Cena and there would be no main event for Mania. JBL says that Teddy has always been out to get him, but JBL guarantees he will win at Mania.
MATCH 2: Cruiserweight Championship Battle Royal. So I guess that Number 1 Contendership that Paul London earned on Velocity does not count. In the ring are London, Akio, Funaki, Spike, Scotty, Nunzio, Kidman, and Chavo is last out. Everyone teams up and tosses out Chavo first. Chavo goes and grabs the belt, but the ref takes it away from him. Nunzio eliminates Funaki next. Big Scotty chant from the crowd as Kidman tries to push him over and out. Scotty manages to roll back in the ring though. Paul gets Spike over the rope, but Spike also hangs on and rolls back in. Kidman gets Nunzio on the top rope, and tosses him to the ground. Spike and Kidman try to force London over the top, while Scotty hits Akio with a bulldog. Kidman runs at Scotty, who hits him with a back body drop. Spike then goes after Scotty, but Scotty bulldogs him too and hits the worm. Scotty then superkicks Spike over the top and eliminates him. Kidman hits Scotty with a clothesline, while London fights with Akio. Akio goes for a running kick while London is in the corner, but London blocks it and hits the Mushroom stomp. London puts Akio on the top, while across the ring Kidman is trying to force out Scotty. Scotty fights out, whips Kidman across the ring into the corner, and runs at him. Kidman ducks, and flips Scotty over the top rope, but Scotty lands on the apron. Scotty clothesline Kidman, but Akio leaps off the corner and knocks Scotty to the floor with a dropkick. London hits Kidman with a corner splash, then goes for a corner mounted punch, but Akio attacks him from behind. London pushes off Akio, then backflips onto him. Kidman hits a great dropkick on London, punches London, and tries to put him over the top. Akio joins Kidman, and London goes over the top, but rolls back in. Akio and Kidman kick London, then whip him and hit a double elbow. Akio stands on Londons face, and they go to toss him over, but London hangs on. Kidman and Akio pound on London, and they whip him, but London takes both men down with a dropsault. London fights off both men. Akio goes to whip London into the corner where Kidman is waiting, but London reverses and whips Akio into him. London ducks under and flips Akio onto the apron. Akio yells at Kidman, but London dropkicks Kidman into Akio, who is eliminated. London goes after Kidman and tries to toss him out, but Kidman reverses and tosses London over the top. London hangs on as Kidman comes at him, and London skins the cat, hurricaranas Kidman, and eliminates him for the win!
WINNER and NEW CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPION: PAUL LONDON
Kidman tries to attack London after the match, but London fights him off, then celebrates in the ring.
Backstage we see a limo, its Akebono.
Teddy is in his office, and in walks Carlito. Carlito sucks up, but Teddy will have none of it. Carlito says he knows Teddy probably has some stupid thing for him to do, but he has a better idea. Carlito says he wants to get back in the ring tonight. Teddy says he is not cleared, but Carlito says he is, didnt Teddy gets the e-mail? Teddy tries to give Carlito an assignment, but Carlito wants to get back in the ring, with anybody. Teddy gives Carlito a match with John Cena. Carlito does not like this idea. Teddy tells him to go get ready.
Rey is sitting backstage, and Eddie comes over. Rey apologizes again, but Eddie says to relax. Eddie asks Rey again, if it was an accident, and Rey says of course. Eddie says sure, but he wants them to get another shot at the Bashams. Eddie suggests that Rey wrestle Doug later, and Rey thinks this is a great idea. Rey says he will go ask Teddy for the match. Rey and Eddie hug, and Eddie says he is gonna have Reys back, just like Rey had his. I smell a heel turn.
MATCH 3: Luther Reigns vs. Booker T. Luther is waiting in the ring when we come back from commercial. We see Book talking to his lovely wife backstage before he comes out. She gets Book hyped up for the match, and says she needs him to win. Books music hits, and he comes out to a great reaction from his home crowd. Pretty average match, and Book wins with the scissors kick.
WINNER: BOOKER T
Backstage Teddy Long tells a PA to put out the word about Cena vs. Carlito. Teddy walks into his office, and Cowboy Bob Orton is waiting. Bob tells Teddy that he is worried about Randy. He thinks Randy has gone too far. Bob wants to talk to Taker tonight. Teddy says this is not a good idea, but he will allow it.
Back at the ring, Tony Chimel introduces Cowboy Bob Orton. Bob comes down to the ring, and grabs the mike. Bob says it feels good to be back in the ring, but he has mixed emotions. Crowd chants Randy Sucks. Bob says he is proud to be inducted into the hall of fame, and he is proud of Randy. Bob says he wants to talk to Taker, and asks him to come out. The lights go out and the gong sounds. Taker comes out and comes down to the ring. Bob tells Taker that Randy respects Taker, but he has gotten to far into all this. Bob says when he saw Taker take out Dupree, he realized this all has gone too far. Bob wants Taker to wrestle Randy, but Bob wants Taker to go easy on Randy. Bob hands Taker the mike, and Taker says that it took one slap to seal Randys fate. At Mania, Randy Orton will rest in peace. Bob says he has never knelt down to any man, but he will do know and beg for mercy for his son. Taker turns around, right into an RKO from Randy Orton. Randy and his dad celebrate as they leave. Taker tries to get up, but the RKO seems to have put him out.
MATCH 4: Doug Basham with Danny Basham vs. Rey Mysterio with Eddie Guerrero. Doug takes control early, and pounds on Rey before dropping him onto the ropes for a near fall. Doug locks on an abdominal stretch. Rey fights out with a head scissors, then a backflip off the ropes for a near fall. Rey hits a springboard seated senton for another near fall. Rey then knocks Danny off the apron, and Doug attacks him from behind. Doug goes for a backdrop, but Rey flips over and kicks Doug into position for the 619. Rey hits it, then goes to the corner and climbs to the top. Danny climbs on the apron to go after Rey, but Eddie runs in and knocks Danny off, which shakes the ropes causing Rey to fall off too. Danny pulls Eddie out of the ring, and Doug covers Rey for the win.
WINNER: DOUG BASHAM
Eddie apologizes to Rey after, and Rey accepts. I guess the heel turn I smelled is only bad cheese.
Josh Matthews is interviewing Kurt, and asks Kurt if his strategy had changed after failing to take out Shawn on RAW. This angers Kurt, and he talks about how he is the greatest, not Shawn. Kurt beats up Josh, and drags him to the ring where he beats him down some more before hitting the Angle Slam and putting on the Ankle Lock. Kurt then says this is what he is going to do to Shawn, and they show us Kurts highlight video.
Michael Cole is in the ring, and Big Show and Akebono come out for the weigh in. Show weighs in at 493 pounds. Akebono weighs in at 504 pounds. Cole asks Show his reaction. Show says this is the first time in his life someone weighed more than him. Show tells Akebono that he is still bigger. Show talks about pushing over the jeep last week. Show says he knows Akebono is great, but this is his world. Akebono says they will find out at Mania, but that since Show will be in a sumo match at Mania, he wants to have a wrestling match tonight, out of respect for Show.
MATCH 5: Akebono vs. Jobber. Jobber attacks Akebono, who pushes him out of the ring. Jobber climbs the corner and leaps off at Akebono, who catches him and slams him into the corner. Akebono then sumo squats over the Jobber and pins him.
WINNER: AKEBONO
Show claps for Akebono, and they stare each other down.
MATCH 6: Carlito vs. John Cena. Carlito is not happy about facing Cena. Carlito should be pissed at Hardcore Holly for injuring him when he has in the middle of his push. Without that injury maybe Carlito would be on the Mania card. Cena comes out to his new music, which I like but still think should have waited until after Mania. And why has Cena not been on the show yet? The Number One Contender and Mania Main Eventer should be all over the last show before Mania getting support from the crowd. Carlito stays out of the ring, then gets in and tries to hide behind the ref. Carlito plays the cowardly heel, but he is no match for Cena. Cena hits a flying shoulder block, and pumps up the shoes for the finish, when JBL interupts with some cops, here to arrest Cena for vandalizing JBLs limo last week. Didnt that happen in another state? Why would Texas cops be arresting someone for something that happened in Memphis?
WINNER: NO CONTEST
JBL trash talks Cena as the cops drag him away, then takes a cheap shot at the handcuffed Cena. JBL then poses as the show ends.
