Before we move onto the main section of the column, let me tell you a few things about myself. I, XanMan, have been a wrestling fan for 18 years now. I've been writing for the LOP Forums since June of 2003. I started with "Putting the X in Wrestling", which was a review column. I'd review RAW, Smackdown, or TNA, do predictions for PPVs and then point out the high and low points of them. I'd also feature one superstar for that brand, and then give an idea for the future. A few months in, I decided that I wanted to write a separate opinion column, which is the one you're reading now: The Northern Star. After 30 issues of "Putting the X in Wrestling", I realized that the constant reviewing was making me be too critical, and thus lessening my enjoyment of the product. So, instead, I took one section from that column, "The X-Change"; a debate between me and another columnist; and turned it into its own column, and continued that along with writing the Star, until eventually turning The X-Change over to Winter--author of Let It Snow--in favor of starting a new dual column with doublehelix, called Excuse the Aggravation, latest edition available here:ETA. So, I've been writing both the Star and ETA, ever since. ETA is going through some changes now, and going in a different direction, so I encourage you to check that out, as well, along with many others in the Columns Forum. The New Joint I'd also like to thank all who voted for me this month: Sheepster, Randomguy #5, Steve, 1,000,000BC, Morpheus, kelly, Jules, doublehelix, Canadiankid, Winter, Eggman, master P, Alex-Smackdown, silentk,SparK, and SuFi Jeebus. This is a bit of a departure from my usual work--or anyone else's--but, I hope you'll find it enjoyable and enlightening. Now that the introductions have been made, and the small talk is out of the way, I, Xan, invite all of you to dance. "Mosh with me now" I look around at this virtual word before us, thinking that there's so much more we could create. Why the hell doesn't it totally floor us that instead of love for wrestling there's so much hate? Aren't we all supposed to be fans, aren't we all supposed to enjoy the sport of kings? But, no, instead we take it in our hands to dish out disrespect to those in the ring. Well, I say if you've got nothing positive to shout, why do you bother typing at all? I can understand having to let it out, when you feel like punching a wall But, not everything can be wrong, positive things happen, too, y'know. Your list of grievances is so long; man, just let some of it go. Let me give you an example of what I'm talking about my sisters and brothers, I'm composing this little rhyme to show you how you've been hurtin' others. After Triple H lost his title it seems that all of a sudden, everyone thought he was cool. But, he's got the belt back, and all you hoodlums think he played you for a fool. Why don't you take a step back and recognize what's happening for real? That he's carried the company on his back and remuneration's part of the deal. He's their biggest star whether you critics decide to like it or you don't. You can blame luck or you can cry "politics", correct thinkers won't. "Oh, Triple H has got to be calling the shots, look how many titles he's won!" Why can't you people just connect the dots, and take a look at all he's done. Back in 1999, he took upon the leadership mantle, and declared he was "The Game" He did more than one man should handle, took both the praise and the blame. And it couldn't have been easy for him, after the way he was done. Austin would lay down for Mick, but not for "some no one". Still Helmsley persevered, strived, and became one of the best ever. He kept the wrestling fever alive, made Stone Cold regret saying "never". Why can't you step up and respect, what this man has done for the biz? Instead of getting up your neck, and hitting him with some dis? So, he's married to the boss's princess, is that such a crime? Yeah, he's now a kin of Vince's, and making lots of dime. But, honestly tell me if you could get a chick that fine, that you'd resist nailing her with your wood from front or behind. He married into money and power, he's successful. You're jealous. While you're lonely, your job's stressful, and you're trying to sell us That Trips only talent is shoving folks back down the card, Fuck, we ain't believing you, you's a joke with no regard. "You scrutinize every word, memorize every line/I spit it once, refuel, re-energize, and rewind." What's another fable that we keep hearing, what else you gonna say? Oh, great Taker and Kane are ruling, it's Hoss independence day. Man, why do you got to bring such thunder, when there's no lightning to back your play? Like the organization's gonna go under, if you cynics don't get your special way. Bradshaw can't hack it, Big Show is no good, Lesnar's the WWF's savior, Benoit champ? No it never could, why don't you people do me a favor Look at the evidence, let something play out, cuz we don't "know" before we know. The IWC will never have any clout, while you're pissed off before the word go. Why the hell you here, bringing us all down if you ain't feeling the love? Don't be a jerk, not a motherfuckin' clown. Don't pull us to the mud. You're making all of us who give a damn, look like a bunch of monkeys. Fuck y'all negative fucks, I'm a wrestling fan, not a cowering flunkey. I hear all the crap and decide to ignore it, cuz I think for myself. Man, it must get really damned boring, being your negative self. Eddie's past is checkered, he'll never get his due, Well, for the record, it's now been proven to you. Why don't you guys wake up and smell the shit that you're shoveling, If it wasn't for these wrestlers you wouldn't have a forum to yell in. I don't care if you bitch cause something really is wrong, But you find something to complain about just to feel strong. That ain't right, you know it, I'm willing to direct it. You've been an asshole? Step up and correct it. Be positive and constructive, give praise when it's needed. Instead of letting your destructive nature get seeded. It's time to stomp out the doom, time to let the fun show. If all you can see is gloom, how can your love grow? I know what you're puzzling, cuz I've been in the same place. Yeah, that's right, Xan was in it, he stepped out of the race. I don't want to be the critic on the block. Not ever again. No, my opportunity's about to knock. I'm gonna step in. You people--you need someone to show you the way. Well, fuck it, I'm someone, and I've found the brighter day. "All the people up top, on the side and the middle/Come together let's all form and stomp just a little." What qualifies me to lead you? Maybe lead's the wrong word. But, I'm certainly not going to allow myself to be deterred. I want so much more from this Internet Wrestling Community. Let's open a new door and let in some positive energy. If you're not too jaded to change, if you can crack a smile. If you're a little deranged, hell, we'll keep you around for awhile. As long as you can keep an open mind, I don't care if you're crazy. Hell, if you're gonna be kind, I want you even if you're lazy. This is one movement that doesn't care if you're a slacker, If you want improvement, if you're going to be a backer Sit on your ass, look at the sky. Just think good thoughts. In fact, get yourself high, as long as your hate rots. Help me, folks, I beg, I plead. Wrestling gives us so much. Be sated, feed your need. Give back to your crutch. Help me lead the charge, help me rectify the damage. Show the haters out there that you don't care about image. If they insult you for being a "mark", explain to them the truth: They're the ones in the dark, and if they ask you for proof; Tell them to open there hearts, their ears, their eyes. This could be off the charts, the IWC could become paradise. Who's with me? Who among you will show the courage? Who will step up? I'm asking you? Who hates the mirage That they've been led to assume? Who wants to shed Their putrid, horribly ugly costume and let that part be dead. Kill the darkness that's been bred; show reckless abandon It won't destroy all your cred, if you let yourself be handsome. I'm talking being a wrestling fan, hell even a fanatic. You can't tell me that wouldn't feel fantastic. We can turn this around, the mood of the room. Joyous will be the sound when we destroy the gloom. So, step in line, brothers, let your voices be heard, If I have my druthers, you'll obey my word. "Let me be the voice and your strength and your choice/Let me simplify the rhyme just to amplify the noise." So, just listen and listen, and then do what I say You'll be the pistons, powering our motor today. This is going to be a battle, to take back our ground. We're going to rattle this place, and turn it around. You want to know how, don't you? You can hardly wait to hear what we're gonna do. Well, anticipate making this place into the biggest party you've seen, Help get rid of the sickness, let your joy be seen. The joy that moves and rocks a wrestling fan in this time. Encourage them to just watch, relax and unwind. Tell them how you feel in just watching the shows, that your love is for real, that your heart goes thumping in your chest, as the blood keeps pumpin' without a moment of rest, your body's a jumping. We'll keep at 'em, and at this till they understand, that you don't need to piss and moan to feel like a man. We're gonna rock, we're gonna hum, we're gonna turn this Joint into a happening club, you want to be negative? Then have a reason, have a purpose, be constructive, Not just because you feel cursed to be destructive. If there's an injustice, you're damned right we're gonna be incredibly pissed, and even I'm gonna wanna Jump down their throats, display to them the error, though I know the coats won't run and scream in terror. It'd be nice if Vince and his merry band of company men would hear providence, and bother to keep their ears open, Who should they respond to? Let's not give them a choice. If we're strong and successful, we'll have a unfied voice. To say what we want to see, and what we think is drivel, Because not everything reeks, and that's where we'll quibble and stomp, and cheer, and dance, be merry and sloshed, Are you ready for the chance? C'mon, follow me, let's mosh.
