TNA Final Resolution Recap 1-16-05
BSB here, watching TNA Final Resolution Live! I am going to be updating this recap as the show goes on, so check back often. If anyone wants live updates or to chat during the show, I am Feyr on Yahoo IM.
It's the pre-show now. Shane Douglas and Jeremy Borash welcome us, and run down the card. We then go to our pre-show match, The Naturals vs Johnny B Badd and Sonny Siaki.
JBB and Chase start it out. The Ultimate X cables are already up. That could be cool, if some wrestlers in other matches use them. Good back and forth match, but we have seen this many times before. The Naturals are double-teaming JBB, Chase holds him while Andy goes for a punch off the top rope, with a chain wrapped fist. Siaki shoves JBB out of the way, but gets hit and Andy gets the pin.
We get some more recaps of the title picture, and they run down the card again. We then go backstage for a Scott Hudson interview with Team Canada and Scott D'Amore. D'Amore tells us that Team Canada will set the new standard for Tag Team excellence. Then he goes to Petey Williams, who reminds us he has beat Amazing Red, Chris Sabin, and AJ Styles. He says tonight he will win Ultimate X.
We got to the ring, where we get another pre-match, Cassidy Riley vs Chris Candido. Riley impressed me with his match Friday vs AJ, I wonder how he will do here. He does well, but Candido bores me. Candido does do a nice delayed vertical suples, where he holds him up for a long time, even checking his watch at one point. Candido hits a superplex, followed by a diving headbutt for the win.
For the final few minutes of the pre-show they run us down the card again. Looks like a good card, but Ultimate X will really have to deliver to live up to Turning Points cage match. And hopefully the right thing will be done, and Jeff Jarrett will lose the title. And here we go!
We get a great video package of some of the matches tonight, and we go to the ring. Mike Tenay and Don West welcome us, and talk about some of the matches. We got to Shane Douglas interviewing Jeff Jarrett. He asks JJ about the #1 contenders match. JJ is not worried about the Diamond Cutter, or the AA ballplayer Monty Brown. And Kevin Nash, he may be 7 feet tall, but flat on his back he is 12 inches at most. JJ is king of the mountain, and he will remain NWA champ.
Back at the ring, Michael Shane and Frankie Kazarian, joined by The Fallen Angel Chris Daniels are out to face the 3 Live Kru. Konnan does his standard pre-match shtick, as does BG James. Fallen Angel and Konnan start, big Fallen Angel chant. Some great chain wrestling. Why wont TNA push Shane and Kazarian as a tag team? They are better wrestlers and heels than Team Canada, in my opinion. A long term feud with AMW, like the XXX feud, would be awesome. BG James is isolated and worked on, before hitting a nice powerbomb on Daniels and getting the hot tag to the Truth. It becomes an all out melee, till James and Truth take out Kazarian and Daniels, leaving Konnan and Shane. They hold up Shane for Truth to hit a kick, and Truth gets the win.
We got o Dustys office, where Traci, Trinity, and Fairplay are getting briefed by Dusty. Dusty tells them to find the clue, and tonight one of them will get eliminated. Fairplay insults Dusty, and he and Trinity leave to find the clue. Traci then leaves.
Back at the ring, its time for X-Division action. Primetime Elix Skipper vs the Original Playa from the Himalaya, Sonjay Dutt. This should be awesome. Dueling "Lets go Sonjay", "Lets go Primetime" chants from the crowd. Sonjay hits a 720 revolution spin around Elix ending with a hurricarana. Sonjay goes for a Hindu Press, but Elix hops onto the top rope next to him, and kicks him off and out of the ring. Lots of TNA chants, and this match deserves it. Primetime is selling an injured shoulder, but still takes control with some stiff kicks. Elix goes for the Play of the Day, but Sonjay counters and attempts an asai moonsault, but Elix gets the knees up. Crowd is really into it. Sonjay hits a tila-a-whirl DDT for a near fall, then misses the Hindu Press. Elix then hits a move similar to Mark Jindraks Mark of Excellence, but with an extra spin, for the win.
Kevin Nash talking to DDP. He wants DDP to help him take out Brown, take a break, then they can fight for the shot at the world title. DDP does not trust Nash, but Nash says he will not put a hand on DDp until Brown is gone.
We see a recap of the Kid Kash/Dustin Rhodes feud. The we go to the ring. Kash is out first, and the cowbot hat and pimp jacket are back! Dustin is out next, looking like a refuge from a texas gay biker bar. Kash fakes a knee injury, then low blows Dustin while the refs back is turned and takes control. It's usually hard for a heel who is really good in the ring to get over as a hell in TNA, look at Skipper and Daniels in the two previous matches. But Kash is such a good heel he has the crowb eating out of his hand. Kash injures Dustins knee, and works on it for a while. Kash gets a spinning toe hold, but Dustin reverses for a near fall. Kash works on the knee some more, hitting a nice frog splash onto the knee. Kash puts on a figure four, but Dustin manages to roll it over, causing Kash to release it. Dustin is doing a good job, but Kash is the one carrying this match. Dustin hits an atomic drop, but it hurts Dustins knee and causes him to collapse. Kash goes for a top rope crossbody block, but Dustin reverses into a near fall. Dustin goes for the Curtain Call, but Kash reverses into an enzugiri for a near fall. Dustin hits a bulldog for the win.
Fairplay is chlling in an office, talking trash about Traci and Trinity. He finds Dustys hat, and puts it on and makes fun of Dusty. He then finds the clue in the hat.
Another recap of the #1 contenders match,a nd title match tonight. Too much focus is placed on Kevin Nash in my opinion. I swear, if there is a swerve and fingerpoke victory for JJ tonight, then I am done with TNA. They will lose one of their biggest fans if they pull that.
We see the buildup to the Raven/Erik Watts match. Basically, Raven pretended to be DDP, and called Watts wife telling her that Watts was cheating on her. Watts believed DDP really did do it for a while, but he found out the truth and now he wants to kick Ravens ass. Still better than most WWE midcard feuds. It just sucks that Raven gets stuck with wrestling Watts. He should be in the title picture.
Raven is out first, with a new trenchcoat. Watts is next, carrying a steel chair. Raven jumps him as soon as he hits the ring, then tosses Watts out and works on him outside the ring. Raven hits a russian leg sweep into the ring barrier, then again after the crowd chants "One more time!" Back in the ring, Raven takes control. Watts finally reverses Raven, then hits a nice back heel kick off the top rope. Raven attempts to leave the ring area, but Watts chases him down and brings him back. Watts hits Raven with a russian leg sweep into the barrier, again, the crotches him on the barrier. Raven gets back to the ring, Eatts follows and gets a chokeslam. Watts then leaves the ring and gets the chair, but the ref stops him from hitting Raven, and Raven recovers and hits Watts. Raven then gets the chair, puts it im between the ropes in the corner, and throws Watts face first into it. Raven attempts the drop toehold onto the chair, but Watts reverses, sending Raven into the chair. Watts hits a bicycle kick, but goes for mounted punches instead of a pin. Watts powerbombs Raven into the turnbuckle for a near fall. Watts attempts a chokeslam, but Raven reverses into an anklelock. Watts reverses it, but Raven hits a superkick. Raven attempts a clothesline, but Watts reverses it into an STF. Raven reverses into an anklelock, but Watts reverses. Watts goes for a chokeslam, but cant get Raven up. He tries again, and gets it for the win. Post match, Raven gets a mike and apologizes to Watts. He says he let his hatred of DDP get the best of him, and asks Watts for forgiveness. Raven then hits Watts with a trash can from behind, knocking Watts off the stage. Raven chant from the audience.
Tenay tells us that next months PPV is called "Against all Odds", and remins us of Impacts new time slot.
The bagpipes hit, and here comes special referee Rowdy Roddy Piper! The crowd love the Hot Rod. Scott Hall is next, wearing his elvis hairpiece and glasses. Next is Halls last minute opponent, Jeff Hardy. Too bad about Hector Garza. What was Hardy going to do before Garza got arrested I wonder? Piper frisks Hall for weapons before the match starts, and finds some metal object, then a fork, then a chain. Very funny. Hall then frisks Piper for weapons, finding handcuffs. Temay reminds us that Hardys first WWF match was with Scott Hall. Hrady gets a good reaction from the audience, usually its more of a mixed reaction. Hall uses his power, while Hardy tries to outmanuver and outwrestle Hall. Hardy gets a few near falls, and Hall ducks out of the ring to catch his breath. Hardy works on Hall outside the ring, then throws Hall back in and hits his crotch leg drop. It may be because I am on beer 14 right now, but this match is actually pretty good. Hall takes control again, hitting Hardy with a chokeslam for a near fall. Hall throws Hardy into Piper, then grabs what looks like some brass knuckles (actually looks like paper) and tries to hit Hardy. Piper swings Hall around, and Hall goes to puch Piper. Piper pokes his eye, and Hardy knocks Hall down. Hardy hits the Swanton for the win. He then challenges Jeff Jarrett Piper then calls Hardy the next world champion. Abyss then hits the ring and takes down Hardy with the sit down torture rack. I am so happy to see Abyss is still with TNA!
Traci is backstage, flirting with some stagehand, to find out where the clues are. Trinity runs in, and tells Traci Dusty needs her. Trinity then flirts with the stagehand, who says he does not know where the clues are.
Back to the ring, and its time for the # 1 contenders match! The Alpha Male is out first, then the Grey goose, Kevin Nash, who actually looks in pretty good shape. DDP is nect, and he gets a great pop from the crowd. I know DDP is old, but maybe he should have a short run with the belt, just for the fans. Monty chant fro the crowd, but mostly a moxed crowd. Monty and DDP start on each other first, while Nash stands around. Bigger Monty chant now. Monty and DDP go at it some more, Nahs is just chillin. Now Nash takes over, while DDP chills. Monty overpowers Nash, forcing him into the ropes. They lock up again, and Nash forces Monty into the ropes. MOnty takes down Nash with punches, before Nash whips him and hits a sidewalk slam. Nash hits some knees in the corner, then a headlock, which Monty reverses into a back drop. Nash then exits the ring, and DDP takes over. DDP takes control, hitting a clothesline and elbow drop for a near fall. Monty recovers and hits a ddt, but Nash breaks up the pin. Nash and DDP double team Monty in the corner, Nash then tries to clothesline DDP out of the ring, but DDP ducks under Nash and throws him out. Apparently this means Nash is eliminated. I didnt know you could be eliminated that way. Its down to DDP and Brown, and DDP hits the Diamond Cutter! But Nash pulls him out and throws him into the post. DDP is tossed back in, but only gets a 2 count from the cutter. Lots of near falls, until Brown reverses the Diamond Cutter and hits the POOOOOUUUUNNNNCCCEEEE for the win!!
Tag titles are next, and we see a video recap of the feud building up to the match.
Team Canada with Coach D'Amore is out first, then AMW. AMW attacks TC outside the ring, and they brawl ont he ramp. Chris Harris slams Bobby Roodes head into the title belt on the announce table. James Storm hits a nice tilt-a-whirl head scissors on Eric Young, driving him into the ramp. Lots of brawling outside the ring. Finally Chris Harris and Eric Young find themselves in the ring. Harris takes control, overpowering Young and then tossing him out the ring. Young gets back in and attempts to use his speed o Harris, but Harris hits him with a shoulderblock and Young is out the ring again. Young tries to leave, but Harris drags him back, and he and Storm work on Young, then Roode, tossing Roode into Young. Roode ends up outside the ring, and AMW tosses Young over the ropes into Roode. Bck int he ring now, and Roode tries to take control on Storm, but Storm wont let him. Storm hits a nice hurricarana for a near fall. Then with help from Young, Roode takes down Storm, and Team Canada begins the Double Team. TC isolates Storm with quick tags nd double teams. Storm attempts a comeback, but Roode stops him and brings him back to TCs corner. More double teaming from TC. Storm finally manages to recover, take down both members of TC with enzugiris, and almost manages to make the tag but Roode stops him. Young tags in, and htis an elbow drop for a near fall. Storm tries to comeback, and hits a sunset flip on Young for a near fall. Young tags in Roode, who goes back to work om Storm. Storm misses and enzugiri, but hits with a kick. Roode then charges at Storm, but misses, and Sotrm gets the hot tag! Harris takes over, taking down Young and hitting Roode with a full nelson slam. Then a delayed vertical suplex on Young, but Roode breaks up the pin. Storm come sin, and hits Roode with a powerslam for a near fall. They set up for the death sentence on Roode, but Young stops Harris and goes for a superplex. Storm stops him, and powerbombs Young while Harris dives into Roode. Some mroe brawling, and Storm hits Roode with a superkick, but D'Amore pulls the ref out. AMW go outside the ring, and handcuff D'Amore to one of the Ultimate X posts. They then hit Young with the Hart Attack, for a near fall. Theya re about to go for the Death Sentence, but Johnny Devine runs out, and Harris leaves the ring to chase him down. While the ref is distracted, Storm goes for a spinning powerbomb, but Devine hits Storm with the hockey stick. It only gets a 2! Roode is in, he goes for a suples, but AMW hits the Powerplex, but only get 2! Bullshit chant from the crowd. Harris hits the catatonic, but the ref is distracted. Devine slips in a chair to Young but Harris grabs it, but Roode kicks it into Harris face. Only gets a 2! Devine accidently hits Young with the chair from outside the ring, and AMW gets the win! 6 time NWA Tag Team Champs, Americas Most Wanted!
Fairplay, Traci, and trinity meet outside the ring, and he calsl them bimbos. They then beat the crap out of him,a dn take the clue. They run up to Dusty fighting over the clue, and Dusty tells them to each make a team, and whoevers team wins will be Dustys new secretary.
Its time for Ultimate X! Don Harris is hanging the belt. Hope he gets it up there good, we dont want any crap like the first match. We get a good video package for the match, and with these three men, there should be no way this match disapoints.
Hail Sabin! Chris Sabin is out first, followed by Petey Williams with D'Amore. Mr TNA 2003 and 2004, two time triple crown winner, 3 time x champ AJ Styles is next. Lots of three way action to start, no alliances in this one. Sabin and AJ then hit Williams with some nice double team moves. They then square off with some nice chain wreslting. AJ attempts to grab the belt with a springboard, but misses. He then hits Sabin and Williams with a nice dive over the top rope. Styles goes to the top, but Sabin stops him and hits a nice kick off the top. Sabin then goes for the belt, but D'Amore runs in and grabs Sabins leg, giving Williams time to run in and knock Sabin down. The ref then sends D'Amore to the back. Crowd gives him the na na na na, goodbye. Williams takes down AJ outside the ring, then goes inside where he goes to work on Sabin. Dueling "Lets go AJ", "Lets go Sabin" chants from the crowd. Sabin tries a comeback, but Petey stops him and gets the sharpshooter on Sabin. Aj then runs ina nd goes for the belt, but Petey releases it to stop AJ. Petey puts AJ in the tree of woe, then goes for the belt. Just a free for all now, with all three making tries for th belt and getting pulled down. AJ has Sabin in an electric chair position while Petey goes for the belt, but Petey gets pulled off, but hits a hurricarana on Sabin. Williams and Styles both get to the belt, Vut Sabin pulls down Styles and leaves Petey up there. AJ takes down Sabin, and goes for a springboard clothesline on Petey that misses. Petey falls down anyway, and up goes Sabin. AJ gets to him, and powerbombs Sabin off the ropes. "This is awesome" chant. Petey goes for the Canadian Destroyer on Sabin, but Sabin reverses, and tries for the cradleshock, but Petey reverses and goes for a reverse ddt, but AJ hits Petey with his springboard reverse ddt, taking both down. AJ goes for the belt, but Sabin dropkicks him off! Petey clotheslines Sabin outof the ring, but falls out himself, leaving AJ down in the ring. Petey gets up, and goes for the belt, and so does AJ. They fight on a post, and nearly breaks AJs arm on the post. Sabin is in, and hits Petey with the cradleshock. Sabin goes for the belt, but Aj grabs him down to try a styles clash.
