The 1999 King Of The Ring and multi-time former WWE Tag Team Champion Billy Gunn wrestled his first non-WWE match in over 11 years by working for for WWA New England shows this past weekend. As we all know, Billy was released earlier this month from WWE after 11 years or service.
Billy wrestled on the WWA shows in Lynn, MA on Friday evening and in Rockland, MA on Saturday evening, challenging his former nemesis while with The Bodydonnas, Chris Candido, for his heavyweight title on both nights. Both matches ended in disqualifications. Friday's match ended with interference from Pat Piper's Highlanders. Billy Gunn's Saturday night match ended when Danny Davis (the former WWF heel referee from the 80s) turned on Gunn to cause the DQ.
Billy Gunn will be working more WWA shows in mid-January for shows in Rockland and another town to be announced. Bill Gunn and a mystery partner will take on Chris Candido and Tom Prichard during those shows. If his mystery partner is Bart Gunn, it will feel like 1996 again!!!!
