WWE RAW LIVE ! from the COBO ARENA in Detroit, Michigan 11/19/2004
Christy Hemme was the guest ring announcer for the first match
Tajiri defeated Tyson Tomko. Average match, good heat for Tomko.
Simon Dean defeated Rosey. Average match. Not too much offense from Simon Dean. Decent performance, but not impressive.
Victoria defeated Molly Holly. Announced as a Diva's Match. Normal womans' bout. Victoria wins with her finisher. Good pop for Victoria.
Rhyno defeated Coach. Coach came out to taunt the crowd on the mic, and saying that no one from Detroit can beat him in a match. This brought out Rhyno, a Detroit native. Rhyno called Coach a "bitch", twice. Extremely fast match. Rhyno wins with the Gore. Coach botched up a clothesline that looked like it was going to be an Irish whip. Good heat for Coach. Good pop for Rhyno.
Shelton Benjamin defeated Christian for the Intercontinental Championship. Average match from these two, although not as attention grabbing as the Survivor Series encounter. Benjamin wins with his T-bone suplex. Decent face reaction for Benjamin
(note: this match was advertied on tv as being a triple threat with Benjamin vs. Christian vs. Chris Jericho)
15 minute intermission
Eugene and William Regal defeated La Resistance for the World Tag Team Championship in a No Disqualification match. Good comedy match. Served its purpose for the evening. Decent back and forth action. Funny comedy spots from Eugene. One involving a Hulk Hogan head bandana from "the hogan guy" at ringside. Eugene and Regal get the pin with a knee to the face on one of the frenchies from Regal. Good face and heel heat for the respective teams.
Edge defeated Maven. Slow at first but picked up pace nicely towards the end. Edge taunts the crowd on the mic before the match for some good heel heat. Edge wins with the spear. Maven leaves the ring to a divided reaction from the crowd.
Randy Orton and Chris Jericho defeated Triple H and Batista. Nice back and forth match. Some comedy from Triple H and Orton. It was a while before Y2J got tagged in. Orton wins for his team when he reverses the pedigree into the RKO. Face reaction for Triple H and Batista during their seperate entrances. Randy got the biggest reaction of the night.
(note: this match was advertised as Orton/Edge vs. HHH/Batista, which wouldnt have made much sense.)
Respectable size crowd for the arena. 2,000-3,000 people. Only the bottom section of the bowl was filled though. Approximately 60-70% capacity of what was available. Much more intimate setting in the COBO Arena rather than the Joe Louis.
Only real downside to the show was that there was NO CHRIS BENOIT!!!!!!, the only one I was really looking forward to seeing wrestle. I got my Benoit 4 Real shirt though. An upside was that no matches ended in a disqualification or anything lame. They all had clear finishes and winners. Also there were'nt any "no-names" on the card, which i thought made the show better.
Afterwards we hung around by the back doors where wrestlers were exiting. The only wrestlers to come over and greet the fans were Edge, Eugene, Simon Dean, and the ring announcer. The rest just gave the cold shoulder like Jericho, Christian, William Regal, Sylvan Grenier and Rob Conway. Way to lose fans guys. Edge seemed unhappy to be there, while Eugene and Simon Dean were very appreciative to the people. Security guards that night were on some authority high, bullying fans. Eugene autographed my ticket. One security guy told me they can only sign one thing, Eugene ignored it and said "Oh, He's ok" and signed my program too. Eugene brought his own sharpie to sign autographs. Simon Dean was teasing the crowd about his past "Nova" name and talked with fans about the ECW DVD.
Biggest Pops:
Randy Orton (especially during the finish of the match)
Triple H (entrance)
Rhyno (he's from Detroit)
Most Heat:
HHH
Tyson Tomko (first match of the night)
La Resistance
Good show. About the 20th event that I've been to. 1st ever at COBO ARENA.
