- Bashams too tough for Tough Enough challengers
By Anthony Cali Nov. 18, 2004
DAYTON, OH – Four weeks into the $1,000,000 Tough Enough Challenge, the five remaining competitors climbed into the ring one-by-one to face their most grueling test to date. Mike Mizanin, Ryan Reeves, Dan Rodimer, Justice Smith, and Daniel Puder each were faced with the task of running across the ring and grabbing a yellow flag hanging underneath the second turnbuckle. The only thing standing in their way of victory, however, was a pair of 250-pound Basham Brothers.
Each TE Challenger took a different approach. Mizanin tried to use his speed, Reeves used his strength, Rodimer and Smith used their size, and Puder used his fighting ability. Still, none of the aspiring Superstars could grab the flag, and the winners of the contest were the former WWE Tag Team Champions, Doug and Danny Basham.
Immediately following their win, WWE.com caught up with the winded Bashams to get their thoughts on both the $1,000,000 Tough Enough Challenge, and its five trainees.
WWE.com: What was it like for you being a part of this Tough Enough challenge tonight?
Doug: Well you know I really don’t approve of the Tough Enough competition, because I don’t like how these guys are getting in our business. I don’t think anybody who ever did Tough Enough would be in our freaking business if it wasn’t for money or an easy way in. Back when I came in, I paid dues, man. I got the hell beat out of me every night, I put up rings, and I did things people wouldn’t imagine doing to get into this business. And because of that, I have no respect for any of those kids, and I honestly don’t believe that they have any respect for the guys in our business, because they are being given a free ride.
Danny: I agree with a lot of what my brother just said. As far as tonight goes, it was definitely a new experience. I never dreamed that I would be doing anything quite like this here in WWE. But we were sent out there to do a job, and that’s what we did out there tonight. We came through.
Doug: Most definitely, the bottom line is, our job was to keep them from getting the flag, and I didn’t see none of those jabronis grabbing that flag.
