![]() My thanks to Aaron for the banner this week. He saves my ass again, in good style. It's my 1 year anniversary column, ladies and gents. Ironically, it's also Tito's 6th. I swear, it's a dyansty thing going on here or something. Well, I give congrats to him anyways. God knows, he won't do it for me. Oh well, I have no need to beg for praise. I did what I said I was going to do, and that's all that matters. ________________________________ In yet another tease of a babyface turn, Ric Flair embraced and congratulated Randy Orton after losing his match to the "Legend Killer" at Taboo Tuesday. However, some backstage are suggesting that this time, WWE actually go ahead with a face turn for the sixteen time world champion. WWE has teased the turn several times, so the feeling is that they eventually have to go ahead with it. There are also some who remain against removing Flair from Evolution. One argument in favor of ignoring a face turn is just that Flair was being "honorable" for a candid PPV moment and that WWE should not acknowledge the action on future programming. Others feel WWE should continue teasing a turn, only for Flair to remain in Evolution. In any event, there are no definitive plans for Flair right now. WWE will likely make a decision over the weekend to go ahead with booking for Monday's RAW. Flair a face again? Well, if you're not going to get rid of him, at least make the crowd control work out and have him be a face. With this day and age in wrestling where fans can't help but applaud and cheer for it's legends and heroes (forget the idea of kafabe ever existed), I guess making Flair a face might do some good. I still mark out for Flair (reguardless of what I've said in the past), but please work within the spectrum. I still don't want Flair to wrestle, so make him the next best thing; a manager. Make him the manager for this new group of anti-Evolution guys being formed. Make him the J.J. Dillion of this new Horsemen remake they're going to do. If you want to see Flair again and you want to still cheer his name; put him with a bunch of guys who need the look, style, and experience to at least have a fighting chance against Evolution; at least then, he can do some good without having to wreck his body any more. New Jack was arrested a few weeks back for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and remains in prison. His arrested was caused when New Jack stabbed his opponent near 14 times with a prop. $5000 is the bail release figure, however, New Jack has been unable to raise this. Both New Jack and his opponent still maintain that everything that happened was supposed to happen as it did. You read this? This is why I still mark out for New Jack. Shane McMahon appeared in a recent edition of the Irish Independent newspaper, and talked about the brand extension. He provided the usual WWE talking points about how the extension started off slowly but is now picking up and helping to make WWE even stronger. The true newsworthy note came when he mentioned that WWE was originally looking at adding new brands, as well as a boxing promotion. He went onto say, however, that WWE does not feel the time is right for a boxing offering. Let's see. There was the WBF and XFL, and now a boxing promotion. If Vince and Co. hasn't figured out that anything other than wrestling does not fit in this weird little fantasy land that Vince seems to live in, then I'm predicting that the WWE will be bankrupt by mid-2005. You would think he would have got the point that wrestling is the only thing he should be concerned about, but no; he's trying to come up with other ways to spend money he doesn't have. It's amazing sometimes with evil geniuses; they have the most perfect plan to dominate the world, yet they can't stop with one world, they have to go after all of them. The Wrestling-Observer Newsletter reports that Paul Heyman recently advocated a trade that would have seen the exchange of Chris Benoit for Kurt Angle. Benoit would have gone back to SmackDown, while Angle obviously would have joined RAW. Heyman's motive for such a suggestion was to separate Angle and Undertaker, who have heavily politicized the SD lockerroom. One of the advantages, from a storyline perspective, would have been the ability to run the Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels "dream match" that many fans feel is one of the most desired matches WWE has not yet offered. By all indications, the trade proposal was not accepted and fans should not expect such a move to take place over the short-term. No more tradeoffs. I want the brands to come together now. People are bored with Raw and Smackdown. Why? Because it's like it was last time; same people are being pushed and same people are hogging TV time. The worst thing is that the WWE didn't take advantage of this stupid Taboo Tuesday idea and make it joint brand show. I'm hearing that the show was awful from the people who saw it. I then laughed at those people because they paid 40$ for something they could watch for free. If it was a joint brand PPV, then maybe I wouldn't have been so hard on it, but come on people, it was a Raw that they are making you pay 40$ for! That's how the WWE is making money; because there has to be someone actually paying for these PPVs that are Raws or Smackdowns. I've boycotted all but joint brand PPVs because I, at least with a joint brand PPV, get the chance to see Smackdown and Raw wrestlers fight against each other. I'm tired with this seperate brands shit. At least with the brands back together, the same people would be hording the show, but at least you would see bright spots in the shows more often. The following trademarks have recently been registered by WWE: Khasrow Daivari, Jesus Aguilera, Muhammed Hassan, The Marine, Eye Scream Man and Randy Wear. Muhammed Hassan? That has 'comedy' all over it. Of course, Jesus Aguilera isn't something I should laugh about; cause nobody fucks with the Jesus. (10 points to anyone who can tell me the quote from that) Vince McMahon is not backstage at at SmackDown! tonight, so the backstage environment is much like that of Monday's RAW. The production meetings were delayed for about two hours as Vince called in changes to the show. Writer David Lagana was also on vacation this week, meaning that Paul Heyman had a huge influence on tonight's show. Booking on the fly again, Vince? At least Paul was there to maybe make the show more interesting. I wouldn't know; I don't watch wrestling. While Brian Gewirtz, HHH and Stephanie are backstage at the show and helping with the show. Many find it interesting that Shane McMahon is not present, a likely sign of where the company is headed once Vince calls it quits. My friend and I have a bet. We have been thinking about this, and with the way things are going, we're predicting that all of this will happen around 2006. We think that when Vince gives his company away to HHH and Stephinie. Shane will be so pissed off because he was looked over that he will take his share of the company and all of his cash and make his own federation. He'll sign all these indy wrestlers and probably buy up the majority of the TNA contracts, leaving Jeff Jarrett a large lump of cash. He'll then fish around for markets and eventually get picked up by Ted Turner (thinking that this time he can beat Vince). Turner will put Shane's fed neck-to-neck against the new WWE and, in the end (around 2011), Shane will buy the dying WWE for 10,000$ less than what Vince paid for WCW and Ted Turner will have the rights to every wrestling library ever. A man can dream, can't he? Lex Luger was backstage at Tuesday's TNA Impact tapings, although he was not written into the actual show. He spent sometime backstage, but due to Jeff Jarrett's schedule, did not attend an originally scheduled meeting. Luger was told he could leave the taping early. It is possible that Luger may make an appearance at Wednesday's Best Damn Sports Show taping. The veteran wrestler is already not generating the most positive of reputations amongst the TNA wrestlers. He was late to board a bus from the hotel to Universal Studios, causing a forty minute delay. Since when does any wrestling promotion allow someone to travel with them without a postive drug test? Wait.....that's what the forty minute delay was for. I'm pretty sure he flunked it. A lot of superstars on the Smackdown roster are not welcoming Bruce Prichard back with open arms. Most think that the show has improved greatly ever since Prichard went on hiatus for unknown reasons, so their main concern is that the show will revert to how Smackdown was before he left. Sources backstage are also reporting that the talent feel that Prichard's method of booking the show is outdated. Bruce Pritchard has been fucking things up since he decided Nathan Jones would be a better pickup for the WWE than Christopher Daniels. I thought Bruce was fired, but apparantly I was wrong and unfortunatly for the Smackdown roster I was wrong. He's another one of those guys who should retire. Not because of his years in the business, but because he's a horrible booker and talent manager. Then again, I'm biased because I hate Bruce Pritchard. _____________________________ That's all for today. I was going to put out a more entertaining column, but, due to complications dealing with a bottle of Jack Daniels and Johnny Cash's American Recordings cd, the finishing of the column was put on hold. It'll be up next Monday, so be sure to come back. On a side note, I urge you all to read Inside Clyde's (damn fine writer) column here(link) defending Ric Flair's urgency to wrestle is these times. He truly does smack a lot of the IWC opinions down and he set me straight really well. I still have a different opinion than him, but he definately put a different perceptive and had me look at my ideas of Flair wrestling in a different light. Check it out. Thanks for reading, I guess. I'm pretty glad that I made it here for a year, and I hope that the next year will be as much fun as this year has been. Don't forget the new season of South Park tonight AND make sure you watch 'Drawn Together' right after it. Looks to be two good shows worth watching. Dumass <----Email me!!
