ROCKFORD, IL – Just a few months ago, Chavo Guerrero was hit by Billy Kidman’s Shooting Star Press and left lying in the ring unconscious. As referees and paramedics revived him, fans stood in unison and chanted “Chavo, Chavo,” rallying behind a man some loved, and some hated, but all respected. As the third-generation Guerrero was carted from the arena, it wasn’t known if he’d ever be back.

Chavo was diagnosed with a Grade 3 concussion, and post-concussion syndrome, meaning that he was knocked unconscious for more than a few seconds – he was actually out for 5-7 minutes. When he woke up, he had such severe brain swelling, and brain bleeding, that his wife actually received a phone call telling her to come down to the arena, because the doctors didn’t know if he was going to require surgery to relieve the swelling. Fortunately, the swelling subsided, but for Chavo, the next week became something of a haze.
